Source: Courtesy / Amazon MGM Studios Hollywood rolled out the red carpet for the world premiere of Amazon MGM Studios' high-octane action-comedy, The Pickup. Read more and check out a gallery of photos from the star-studded event inside. On Sunday (July 27) at Regal LA Live, the A-list event brought out the film's stars and a host of special guests to celebrate the highly anticipated summer blockbuster ahead of its August 6, 2025 release. Leading the charge was legendary comedian Eddie Murphy, joined by co-stars Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer, who all star in the Tim Story-directed film. The trio posed for photos and greeted fans before heading inside for an exclusive screening. Story, also one of the film's producers, was joined by fellow producers Charisse Hewitt-Webster and John Fox, along with screenwriters Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. The Pickup tells the story of Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson), two armored truck drivers whose routine day takes a chaotic turn when they're ambushed by criminals led by the cunning Zoe (Palmer). What begins as a simple cash pickup spirals into an action-packed adventure filled with dangerous twists, hilarious banter, and explosive surprises. The premiere crowd was just as star-studded as the film itself. Vivica A. Fox, Aldis Hodge, Skai Jackson, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Daniella Monet, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Jharrel Jerome were among the celebrities spotted showing their support. Reality TV stars Colleen Reed and Chris Seeley were also in attendance, adding to the glamor of the night. Following the screening, guests were able to attend the afterparty at the iconic Hotel Figueroa. The celebration continued into the night with music, cocktails, and good vibes. Packed with an all-star cast including Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and WWE superstar Roman Reigns (Joe Anoa'i), The Pickup promises to be the adrenaline-fueled, laugh-out-loud comedy event of the summer. With a runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes and a hard-hitting R rating, fans can expect a fast-paced ride when the film hits theaters nationwide on August 6. Until then, buckle up! The Pickup is coming, and it's bringing the heat. New on Prime Video in August 2025 — all the new shows and movies to stream this month
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A new month means there's a smorgasbord of new Prime Video titles arriving on Amazon's popular streaming service. There's plenty to get excited about with Prime Video's August 2025 lineup. That's why we've laid out a comprehensive list of everything arriving on Prime Video this month. We've also spotlighted a few standout picks you won't want to miss, including the fourth and final season of Prime Video's sci-fi dramedy "Upload," the Oscar-winning "Conclave" and a new crime comedy starring Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson. Not in the mood for these picks? Be sure to check out our curated guides to the best movies and shows currently on Prime Video for even more streaming recommendations. Now let's dive into everything new coming to Prime Video this August. NEW ON PRIME VIDEO IN AUGUST 2025: TOP PICKS 'The Pickup' Prime Video is following the success of "Heads of State" with an explosive new action comedy starring Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer this month. "The Pickup" looks like a funny enough comedy caper, one that fans of last summer's "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" or "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" will no doubt want to check out. Murphy and Davidson team up as a pair of armored truck drivers who get in way over their heads after a routine cash pickup goes horribly wrong. While en route to their destination, they're targeted by dangerous criminals. After a wild chase, the hijackers' savvy leader, Zoe (Keke Palmer), reveals their plans go way beyond the cash cargo. As chaos erupts around them, the mismatched pair must navigate life-threatening dangers, clashing personalities, and the day from hell that just keeps getting worse. Stream 'The Pickup' on Prime Video from August 6 'Conclave' Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar-winner "Conclave" is one movie I did not expect to love as much as I did. I put it on to pass the time during a trans-Atlantic flight earlier this year, and even half-asleep, watching from a teeny, tiny screen, I was glued from start to finish. I'm only half-joking when I describe it as "Mean Girls" at the Vatican, and I'm dead serious when I say it's got some of the top performances of Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci's careers. When the sudden death of the pope sparks a high-stakes election to choose his successor, Cardinal Thomas Lawrence (Fiennes) is tapped to lead the proceedings just as he's wrestling with his own crisis of faith. As the four favored candidates each outline their pitch for the church's future, Lawrence stumbles upon some shocking secrets hidden by the late pope — revelations that not only threaten to upend the election but could rock the very foundations of the Church. "Conclave's" all-star cast, compelling mystery, and Lawrence's affecting personal journey make this one Oscar winner I firmly believe everyone should watch. Stream 'Conclave' on Prime Video from August 9 'Upload' final season "Upload" is one Prime Video original I haven't checked out yet, but given that it's created by "The Office" alum Greg Daniels, it's definitely earned a spot on my watchlist. Set in the not-so-far future of 2033, this sci-fi dramedy series imagines a world where people can upload their consciousness into a digital afterlife of their choosing. When computer programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) dies in a tragic accident, he's uploaded to the luxurious virtual world of Lakeview thanks to his controlling, still-living girlfriend, Ingrid (Allegra Edwards). As he adjusts to his strange new reality, he begins to suspect there's more to his death than he was led to believe. In season 4, the cast will contend with a sentient AI threatening to wipe out Lakeview and the world. With just four episodes to pull off one of the show's most ambitious storylines yet, each installment promises to be packed with high-stakes tension, drama, and plenty of the series' signature wit. Bat-Mite Is No Longer Canon in James Gunn's DCU
Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier talks X-Men, Eddie Murphy provides an update on Shrek 5, and Alien: Earth introduces a 'ruthless' cyborg. Your bongo to Theed is now arriving; it's Morning Spoilers! In conversation with Screen Rant, Eddie Murphy confirmed he's 'still in the booth' recording lines for Shrek 5 before beginning work on a Donkey spinoff movie this September. We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. We start in September on Donkey, we're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now, but we're about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September. Donkey's going to be like how Puss in Boots had his own movie, Donkey's going to have his own movie, own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys. They've written this funny story. We're doing that, starting that in September. During a recent interview with The Playlist, X-Men director Jake Schreier stated he finds the material 'inherently interesting and complex.' I mean, yeah, without going into too much—really almost any detail. What I can say is, it's just inherently interesting and complex material. The core idea of what X-Men is involves complexity. It's an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that's inherently interesting and complex material. Photos from the future set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day reveal Glasgow's Bothwell Street will double as Lexington Avenue in the upcoming sequel. View this post on InstagramThe curse of an Aztec death whistle terrorizes a high school in the trailer for Whistle, starring Dafne Keen, Sophie Nélisse, Sky Yang, Jhaleil Swaby, Ali Skovbye, Percy Hynes White, Michelle Fairley, and Nick Frost. A child's drawing comes to life in the final trailer for Sketch, starring Tony Hale and D'Arcy Carden. A teaser trailer for the demonic-possession movie, Traumatika, claims any footage from the film is too intense to show. We also have a trailer for Lineage, the fifth and allegedly final film in the Hell House LLC series. During a recent press event attended by Comic Book, Alien: Earth actor Babou Ceesay revealed his character is a 'ruthless' cyborg. I don't even want to give away his backstory… but he's a cyborg, let's just say that. When I say cyborg, what do you think? This is interesting. People have been saying odd things to me when I tell them I'm a cyborg. So some people think that he's all machine when they say 'cyborg,' but that's not it. He's human and flawed in a human way. Whereas you've got people who are synths, who are, I guess, AI brains with synthetic bodies and then you've got the hybrids that are both. So he's a cyborg. The best way I can describe him, he's like an iPhone 1 in a world of iPhone 20s. But what he does have is an unbelievable clarity in terms of what he wants to do and a determination. He's ruthless for that reason. Finally, during a recent episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast (via Comic Book), James Gunn stated every character name dropped in the first season of Peacemaker is likely still canon in the new DCU, barring Bat-Mite. I will say that everything in the [first season episode Best Friends For Never] is canon except for maybe Bat-Mite. He's one of my favorite characters, but I can't say for sure that Bat-Mite is real. He's a wonderful character from the comics. He's an Imp from the Fifth Dimension who looks creepy and dresses in a little Batman costume. Except the ears are bent, because it's a really ill-fitting Batman costume. He's got skinny little legs [and] a fat little body, and he worships Batman. And so he tries to create these extraordinary circumstances for Batman to prove he's a hero, and it's these nightmarish scenarios. Want more io9 news? Eddie Murphy Gives an Update on His ‘Shrek' Spin-Off
While promoting his upcoming movie The Pickup, Eddie Murphy talked to Screen Rant about his Donkey standalone movie from the Shrek universe, as well as where things are with the fifth movie in the Shrek franchise. Regarding Shrek 5, Murphy said that he and his co-stars, including Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), and newcomer Zendaya (as Shrek's daughter), are still recording dialogue. 'We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek,' he said and added that soon after he'll be shifting his focus to his spin-off. 'We start in September on Donkey, we're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now, but we're about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.' When asked if it was going to be a television show, the actor responded, 'No, Donkey's going to be like how Puss in Boots had his own movie.' He continued. 'Donkey's going to have his own movie, [his] own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys. They've written this funny story. We're doing that, starting that in September.' We're excited to see how the upcoming movie will explore the 'Dronkey' family dynamics with Donkey's likely grown brood of winged compact horse children. And if there's potential to learn more about Donkey's dragon wife, we're ready for it. Want more io9 news?
