STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Election Commission announced the changes as part of an update on special intensive revision (SIR) that has created a lot of buzz regarding the new voters' list ahead of the upcoming elections in Bihar. The poll body says additional polling stations in Bihar are required as per SIR instructions dated June 24 and will be assessed by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) based on a cap of 1,200 electors per station. They are intended to help reduce long queues on polling day. The EC emphasised that this cap of 1,200 electors per polling station will also be implemented across other states and Union Territories. The Commission had earlier announced that the SIR exercise would be conducted nationwide, with the schedule to be announced separately. The CEOs DEOs/EROs/BLOs have held meetings with representatives of all political parties and shared detailed lists of the 29.62 lakh electors whose Forms have not been received so far, as well as the nearly 43.93 lakh electors who were not found at their addresses. All 12 major political parties have also been requested to connect with these remaining electors through their District Presidents and nearly 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs). This is to ensure that the entire election machinery, including political parties, works together in a mission mode so that no eligible elector is left out of the draft Electoral Roll to be published on August 1, 2025, as per ECI. New Delhi: Bihar has become the first state in the country to have all polling stations (PS) with less than 1,200 electors, according to an official statement from Election Commission of India (ECI). According to the ECI, a total of 96.23 per cent of electors were covered in Bihar SIR. 5.56 per cent of electors were not found at their addresses so far. On August 1, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will invite objections from the public for any additions/deletions/ rectifications in draft electoral rolls. According to the ECI, 12,817 new polling stations have been added in Bihar to prevent long queues at polling stations. As per the Bihar SIR order dated June 24, 2025 (pages 2, points 6/7 and 7, point 2(a)), the earlier ceiling of 1,500 electors/PS had been revised to 1,200 electors/PS. After adding 12,817 new PS, the total number of PS in Bihar will increase to 90,712 from the earlier 77,895. This major achievement of Bihar is to be followed by other states/UTs, as per the release. Bihar Voter List Revision: 4% Coverage Left, Missing Voter Count Touches 44 Lakh

The ECI also said that the number of electors not found at their addresses so far has reached 43.92 lakh. Of the 43.92 lakh missing voters, 16.55 lakh are reported dead, 19.75 lakh have permanently shifted and 7.50 lakh were enrolled at multiple places. A total of 11,484 voters are not traceable as of date. Out of the 7.90 crore total registered electors as on June 24 in Bihar, the poll body has collected enumeration forms from 7.16 crore, including 7.08 crore digitised forms. The poll body said 96.23% voters have been covered under the SIR drive, with forms pending for just 29.62 lakh voters. The ECI will publish the draft electoral roll on August 1 and for appearing in the list, voters need to submit the forms by July 25. From August 1, any member of the public can file objections for any additions, deletions or rectification in the draft electoral rolls, in accordance with the SIR order dated June 24. This objection window will remain open for a month. Bihar Poll Roll Review: 'Missing' Voter Count Touches 41.64 Lakh; 11,000 Not Traceable

The special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls is underway in Bihar, with six more days for the July 25 deadline. 'The Election Commission is making all possible efforts to ensure that the remaining nearly 32 lakh electors are added to the draft Electoral Roll," the poll body announced on Saturday. The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 1. The booth-level officers (BLOs) have already completed three rounds of house-to-house visits and have established contact with the electors. 'A concerted effort by the entire electoral machinery along with yet another round of visits by the BLOs has also been started to establish contact with the remaining electors," the ECI said. The poll body also assured that in case any name has been added by mistake, has been left out, or there is any error in the draft electoral rolls, this can be rectified by August 30. The poll body also said that a total of 11,000 voters in the existing voter list are not traceable, up from nearly 7,000 listed on Friday. Out of the 41.64 lakh missing voters, 14.29 lakh are probably dead, up from 12.71 lakh listed till Friday. A total of 19.74 lakh voters have probably shifted permanently, up from the 18.16 lakh reported earlier. The number of voters who have registered at multiple places has increased from 5.92 lakh to 7.50 lakh. Over 88% forms digitised The ECI has also digitised over 88% (6.96 crore) of the enumeration forms as of date, up from 6.96 crore reported till Friday. The last date for disposing of claims and objections is September 25, and the final electoral rolls will be published on September 30. The ECI reminded the voters that if they are aggrieved by any decision of the ERO, they can appeal to the district magistrate and the chief electoral officer.
