Amaravati to host India's first Quantum Computing Valley
The first Quantum Computing Valley of India will be launched in Amaravati by January 2026, marking a major milestone in the country's quantum technology journey, Secretary, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE &C) Katamneni Bhaskar has said. Speaking at a workshop on Amaravati Quantum Valley on Wednesday, he said not only Andhra Pradesh, but also educational institutions, healthcare providers, pharma companies, agri-tech, and med-tech industries across the country will be able to utilise the services of the Quantum Valley. The Amaravati Quantum Valley Tech Park would provide scope for lakhs of professionals to work, contributing to research, innovation, and industrial growth, he said. 'States, government bodies, and institutions from across the country will have access to its infrastructure and services. Our goal is to ensure that quantum technology benefits all of human society,' Mr. Bhaskar said. Refuting the apprehensions that quantum computing would eliminate jobs, he said, 'This technology is not a replacement for humans. Traditional computers will continue to play their role. Quantum computing is meant to solve problems and conduct research that are otherwise impossible or time-consuming with classical systems.' 'The project is expected to create vast employment opportunities and encourage startups. To equip youth with the necessary skills, the government is collaborating with the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, offering training and upskilling programmes,' he said. The Amaravati Quantum Valley Centre will operate in alignment with the goals of the National Quantum Mission, aiming to increase productivity and create wealth through advanced technologies. Member of the National Quantum Mission (NQM) and advisor to TCS, Anil Prabhakar, said major global companies such as IBM and Google were already engaged in research on quantum computers in the country. Quantum computing technology was being applied in fields such as pharmaceutical research, EV battery development, bin packing, cargo delivery, route optimisation and image classification, he said. On the security front, he said, the Central government was implementing the 'QNu Project' (Quantum Secure Communication Network) to ensure the safety of computing networks and password security using quantum technology. Director, IBM Research India Amit Singhee said quantum computing is becoming crucial in logistics, space, pharmaceuticals, education, healthcare, financial services and cyber security. 'By 2029, the IBM will deliver Quantum Starling, a large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer. In line with this, IBM has entered into an agreement to establish logical qubit quantum computers in Amaravati,' he said. Principal Director and Research Lead at LTIMindtree A. Vijay Rao said use of quantum AI and related technologies were being explored for monitoring of financial transactions, sequential number generation, logistics management, supply chain optimisation, manufacturing, healthcare, and robotics. Speaking about the growing relevance of quantum computing in risk analysis, climate change modelling, cryptographic optimisation and more, he said LTIMindtree was joining hands with IBM and TCS as a key partner in the Amaravati Quantum Valley Centre to build solutions, develop talent and drive innovation. Secretary to the Chief Minister, P. S. Pradyumna was also present.

Minister Lokesh's intervention rescues Gulf victim
Rajamahendravaram: Thanks to the timely intervention and persistent efforts of Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Real Time Governance and Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh, a woman from East Godavari district who endured over 16 months of suffering in Kuwait has safely returned to her native village. Chilaka Nirmala, a resident of Prakasaraopalem village in Nallajerla mandal, had migrated to Kuwait nearly a year and a half ago in search of employment. While the initial two months went smoothly, her ordeal began in the third month when she started facing severe harassment at the hands of her employer's wife. Speaking to The Hans India, Nirmala said that she was subjected to inhumane treatment, denied proper food, and burdened with excessive workload. Her physical and mental health deteriorated gradually. Despite enduring the abuse for a year, her health declined to the point that she attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills, an attempt that ultimately failed. In a desperate last attempt to escape, she reached out to Prakasaraopalem Sarpanch K. John Victor Babu, Gopalapuram Market Committee Chairman Y. Brahma Raju, and AP Health Employees Society State Secretary GVV Prasad. Moved by her plight, they escalated the matter to Gopalapuram MLA Maddipati Venkataraju, urging him to initiate rescue efforts. The MLA, in turn, brought the issue to the notice of Minister Nara Lokesh. Responding swiftly, Lokesh coordinated with the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) and facilitated communication with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. Subsequently, the embassy summoned both Nirmala and her employers, held discussions, and with the support of the embassy and APNRTS, made arrangements for her safe repatriation to India. Visibly emotional, Nirmala expressed her gratitude, stating, 'I never imagined I would return home alive. This feels like a rebirth. I will forever remain indebted to Minister Nara Lokesh and MLA Venkataraju for saving my life.' Later, she visited MLA Venkataraju at his office in Nallajerla and thanked him for his role in her rescue. The MLA assured her that the government would extend all necessary support for her medical and economic rehabilitation. This incident not only highlights the hardships faced by migrant workers but also underscores the importance of government intervention in protecting the rights and lives of citizens abroad.

Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approves establishment of state Quantum Mission
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday approved the establishment of a state Quantum Mission, Minister K Parthasarathy announced. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Addressing the media at the Secretariat, the Information and Public Relations Minister said the proposal was put forth by the Department of IT, Electronics and Communications and aims to align with India's broader National Quantum Mission (NQM). A Quantum Valley will be developed in the capital city of Amaravati, with 50 acres of land earmarked for the project. "In future, Andhra Pradesh will be on top in the world in quantum computing. From schools to universities, all of them will be involved in training," Parthasarathy said. The state government has formed a committee of experts on quantum computing to guide the mission. The initiative seeks to embed quantum-related training across education levels, from schools to higher education institutions. What is the National Quantum Mission? The National Quantum Mission is a central government initiative aimed at advancing quantum technology and applications in India. Approved at a total outlay of ₹6,003.65 crore, it runs from 2023–24 to 2030–31 and supports infrastructure, research, and human resource development. ReNew Power to set up renewable energy complex in Anantapur
Vijayawada: In a landmark moment for India's renewable energy sector, ReNew is set to re-enter Andhra Pradesh with a Rs 22,000 crore investment to develop the country's largest single-site renewable energy complex in Anantapur. The breakthrough comes following a strategic meeting between Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Sumant Sinha, Chairman & CEO of ReNew, during the World Economic Forum at Davos. This high-level engagement paved the way for ReNew return, ending a six-year investment pause in the State. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project will be held on Friday, (May 16), by Nara Lokesh. This is the first major project under the Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, introduced by the Andhra Pradesh government in October 2024, offering structured incentives and fast-track approvals for clean energy investments. ReNew was the largest renewable energy investor in the State prior to 2019, with 777 MW installed capacity. However, the company suspended further development due to PPA cancellations during the previous administration. Its return signifies a strong vote of confidence in the policy stability and proactive leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. 'This project is a testament to Andhra Pradesh's resurgence as a national leader in clean energy,' said N Lokesh. 'We are building not just capacity, but credibility and global investor confidence.' The project aligns with Andhra Pradesh's ambitious target of 72 GW renewable energy capacity by 2029, as announced during RE Invest 2024. The past eight months have seen a wave of clean energy investments from major players including, Tata Power – 7,000 MW | Rs 49,000 crore; NTPC (Green Hydrogen) – Rs 1.86 lakh crore; Vedanta's Serentica – 10,000 MW | Rs 50,000 crore; Brookfield – 8,000 MW | Rs 50,000 crore; and SAEL Industries – 1,200 MW | Rs 6,000 crore. Andhra Pradesh is fast emerging as India's most investor-friendly clean energy hub.

Lokesh to lay stone for Rs 5,001 cr LG plant in Sri City today
Tirupati: South Korean electronics giant LG is set to establish its third manufacturing unit in India with an investment of Rs 5,001 crore. The new facility will come up in Sri City, marking the company's first unit in the southern region of the country. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, with Minister for Education and IT, Electronics and Communications Nara Lokesh to lay the foundation stone. The Andhra Pradesh government gave its nod for the mega investment in April. The project will be LG's third plant in India after its existing units in Pune and Noida. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has allotted 188 acres of land near Kolladam village in the Phase 2 expansion area of Sri City for the initial phase. An additional 70 acres will be provided in the second phase. The state government has also extended a customised incentive package to support the project. This includes complete water subsidy for 20 years, and exemptions from stamp duty and registration charges. Once operational, the plant is expected to generate direct employment for around 1,500 people, while nearly 5,000 others are likely to benefit from indirect employment opportunities across Tirupati, Nellore, and neighbouring districts. In view of the Thursday's event, District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, along with Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju, Sri City MD Ravindra Sannareddy, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, Additional SP Ravi Manoharachari, Sullurupeta RDO Kiranmayi, and representatives from LG conducted an inspection of the arrangements at the project site on Wednesday.
