Billy Bob Thornton Says He Didn't Expect ‘Landman' to Be 'This Successful' and Teases Season 2

'We knew it was going to be successful — we didn't know it was going to be this successful,' Billy Bob Thornton admits of the reaction to his Paramount+ series Landman. The Taylor Sheridan-created show ranked among the top 10 original streaming series during the fourth quarter of 2024, debuting as Paramount+'s biggest premiere in two years, and continued to gain steam through its finale in January. 'It's amazing, we're so proud,' Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter at a Emmy FYC event for the show on Sunday of the show's reception. 'We love the people we work with and so we're proud for everybody involved.' As for reading where season two is going, the star said, 'I loved it. Taylor knows this show very well, he's got a vision for it so it's pretty easy. I didn't expect to read it and go, 'Wait a minute, hang on here.' It was great.' Season two will also see Sam Elliot join as a series regular — 'It's been awesome, I've known Sam since the '80s so he and I go way back,' Thornton said — as well as a return for Andy Garcia's character, who shook up the season one finale. 'He'll be more of a part of it this year for sure,' Thornton confirmed of Garcia, adding, 'Andy and I go way back too, first time working together though.' Garcia was tight-lipped on what season two would have in store for him, joking only 'I'll be there' and that the new scripts are 'Beautiful, just beautiful. The writing is always so strong.' Co-stars Ali Larter, Demi Moore and Jacob Lofland were also in attendance at the L.A. event, with Lofland revealing that after the success of the show, 'it's a whole new life over the last eight months.' The actor, who plays Thornton's son, also noted that as they film season two 'we're kind of slowing down a touch to keep from having heatstrokes' due to the summer heat in Texas and that reading the new episodes has been 'absolutely amazing. Same as the first, you get Taylor's scripts and it's like picking up a book that you can't put down.' Moore returns in an elevated role for season two. Michelle Randolph, meanwhile, who plays Thornton's onscreen daughter, just landed a role on the big screen with Malibu, a horror thriller Tod Williams is directing for Screen Gems. ‘The Boys' Mocks ‘The Last of Us,' ‘House of The Dragon' and ‘The Bear' in ‘Superclass' FYC Clip (EXCLUSIVE)

Prime Video's 'The Boys' has enlisted 'acclaimed' director Adam Bourke (played by P.J. Byrne) to premiere a new MasterClass-esque 'Superclass' as part of the show's Season 4 Emmy FYC campaign. The new clip, featuring seedy film director-turned Godolkin University (as seen in 'Gen V') acting professor Bourke , is described as a 'Superhero's Guide to Awards Season Acting' aimed at helping supes take home statutes on Emmy night. Scroll down to watch. Bourke begins his Superclass by stressing that 'picking the role is more important than playing the role,' and goes on to guide supes through which genres to look for and which to avoid. The 'Dawns of the Seven' director advises supes to look for period pieces because they're full of 'penetration in petticoats,' followed by pointers on how to act convincingly during a sex scene. Why the TV Community Is 'Curious, but Not Yet Committed' Emmys Just Aren't Quite Sure What to Do With Eligibility for All of This Season's Guest Stars and Cameos Bridget Everett on How 'Somebody Somewhere' Was the Best Experience of Her Life: 'It's Like, Now What Am I Gonna Do?' He then moves on to 'premium dramas,' remarking that dragons are 'cheesy as hell,' but 'banging your sister on a dragon' is a 'jackpot.' For supes looking to star in prestige culinary TV shows, Bourke advises that 'if you're shucking pea shoots and placing rose petals with tweezers, get that speech ready, because we want to hear your well-formed thoughts on immigration.' Bourke then tackles zombie shows: 'If they offer you [one], that's a hard pass unless there's a random heartfelt gay episode halfway through the series, because apparently one eighth gay is gay-okay. It's gay-okay with me and the Academy.' He ends his Superclass with the most important rule of FYC season: never do a superhero show. 'You might think surprising characters with nuanced performances or insightful commentary makes a difference, but it doesn't fucking matter.' Per Prime Video, 'Bourke is 'The Boys'' satirical answer to Hollywood's most notorious directors — once a big deal at Vought, now stuck teaching acting after misconduct allegations derailed his career. He's both a punchline and a pointed commentary on unchecked egos and abuses of power.' Here's the 'SuperClass: 'Acting for Awards Season' with Adam Bourke' video: Meanwhile, the Prime Video/Sony Pictures TV series will next get a two-day fan activation, organized by Amazon MGM Studios, that brings 'Vought on Ice' to the Westfield Century City Mall on June 7th and 8th. Fans of the series are familiar, of course, with the infamous holiday-themed ice show. Now they can watch the three-minute performance featuring skaters lip-syncing to 'Put The Christ Back in Christmas,' turning Vought's over-the-top holiday propaganda into real life. The rink will also be open for 40-minute free skate sessions each hour, as well as showcase actual costumes from Season 4. Reserve your spot here. Kate Hudson says Mindy Kaling sent 'Running Point' notes from hospital bed: 'Isn't Mindy literally in labor?'

Mindy Kaling doesn't let anything stop her from getting the job done right — including giving birth! During a panel at an Emmy FYC event for Netflix's comedy series Running Point on Friday, star Kate Hudson gushed about how the show's co-creator proved her dedication to their work, even at her most fraught moments. "I have to say, I've fallen in love with this woman," Hudson said of Kaling, who also executive-produced the show. "And she's just not only so brilliant, but so trusting ... she puts the best team together," she said, per PEOPLE. Hudson, who plays a woman who's abruptly appointed leader of her family's pro basketball team in the series, recalled that Kaling was even working from her hospital bed after quietly welcoming her third child in February of 2024. "And she was pregnant. We had a script, like our first table read. She's on Zoom," the actress shared. "She then has the baby and is sending notes like an hour after she has the baby. I was like, 'Isn't Mindy literally in labor?'" It was all proof to Hudson that the Velma creator is "a powerhouse" that "delivers what she says she's going to deliver." The Almost Famous alum isn't the only star who has praise for Kaling. Brenda Song, who also stars on Running Point as Isla's formidable bestie and Waves chief of staff Ali Lee, previously told Entertainment Weekly that the mother of three emboldened an uncertain Song to "come with us, trust us." "I was like, I will follow you blindly," Song shared. The mother of two and fiancé of fellow actor Macaulay Culkin said the experience reaffirmed the spark she felt working on Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl. "Working with such incredible, supportive, talented people has really re-energized me and reminded me why I love doing what I do so much." Kaling created the sports comedy with Elaine Ko, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen. The show focuses on Hudson as Isla Gordon, who leads the L.A. Waves, a Lakers-like basketball team with an illustrious reputation, after her brother Cam (Justin Theroux) becomes embroiled in a drug scandal. Long overlooked by her brothers (which also include Drew Tarver and Scott MacArthur) and late father, the ambitious and sports-savvy Isla must prove she's right for the job. She has to find a way to win respect and a championship. Netflix renewed the show for a second season earlier this year. "It was a completely new experience," Hudson told EW in February about making the series. "I'd never been on a show where you do so much in one day. You would shoot a scene from two completely different episodes. I was like, 'This is a whole new world.' But we had such an amazing team of people, and oh my God, we just laughed so much." Running Point is streaming on Netflix. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Tina Fey Explains That ‘Four Seasons' Death and Teases 'Starting From Scratch' for Season 2

[This story contains spoilers for episodes seven and eight of ] 'It's been so fun. I don't know that I've ever been a part of something that had this much of an immediate positive reaction,' Tina Fey says of the last few weeks as The Four Seasons, which she co-created and stars in, debuted on Netflix. More from The Hollywood Reporter John Krasinski Didn't Know Brother-in-Law Stanley Tucci Was His 'Fountain of Youth' Co-Star Until Midway Through Filming Meg Ryan, Rashida Jones Join Natalie Portman for 'Good Sex' (Exclusive) Netflix Is Making a 'Clash of Clans' Animated Series The series is inspired by the 1981 rom-com of the same name directed by Alan Alda, and follows three couples as they go on vacations in spring, summer, fall and winter, with marital and friendship troubles along the way. In a surprise twist, Steve Carell's character Nick — who had divorced his wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) and was dating the much younger Ginny (Erika Henningsen) — died in a car crash in the second-to-last episode, which Fey addressed at an Emmy FYC event on Monday. Fey and her co-creators, Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fisher, had the death in mind from the beginning of the show, and told Carell of his fate when first pitching him on the project, she told The Hollywood Reporter. 'He was like, 'Why does this keep happening to me?'' Fey joked, after Carell's character suffered a somewhat similar ending in The Morning Show, which she admitted, 'I didn't know that when we pitched it, so that's on me. But I dug my heels in.' Of the decision to veer from the film and add in a death, Fey also explained, 'We felt like at the time that everything was sort of grounded and human scale in terms of story, and we were like we do want something to happen, and that is a thing that happens to humans.' Fisher added, 'We wanted this show to really reflect the time in the lives of these people. And when you're in your 50s, it's not like a crazy thing to imagine losing a friend. We wanted this show to have big human stakes, and so someone dying and the group having to come together to deal with that felt right.' The series was renewed for a second season shortly after its premiere, and Fey revealed they started the writer's room last week. 'It's been really nice, we have the same exact writing staff and it's already been really interesting for us to come together and share experiences, not just talk about the previous season but also our own lives,' she continued. 'The writers have been very generous — a lot of what you saw in season one, a lot is obviously from the movie but a lot also came from all of our lives.' She also added that without the movie to provide a template as in the first season, 'we are kind of starting from scratch.' Wigfield noted, 'In some ways it is hard that you're starting from scratch and don't have the movie to guide you, but in a lot of ways the second season of anything is so much easier because you've made so many choices already. We know who these characters are,' adding, 'We set up fun dynamics in the finale. Ginny is pregnant, and this friend group is kind of moving on in the wake of their friend's death. There is going to be really interesting stuff to play and already we're starting to talk about it and it's really exciting.'
