Mariah Carey has officially announced her long-awaited sixteenth studio album, Here For It All, scheduled for release on September 26 via independent label Gamma. Although the full tracklist remains under wraps, Carey has hinted that the next single could be titled 'Sugar Sweet.' In a 2024 interview with Variety, Carey shared her excitement about the new material, saying she had written several songs and was in the process of deciding which ones to include on the final album. Here For It All marks her first full-length project in seven years, following 2018's Caution, which was released through Epic Records and featured collaborations with producers like Skrillex, Mustard, No I.D., and Timbaland. Carey's new album also marks a major career move. She is now signed to Gamma, an independent label founded in 2023 by music industry veterans Larry Jackson and L.A. Reid. According to Forbes, Reid will serve as executive producer on the album through his company Mega. 'It's a game-changing moment,' Reid said, highlighting the significance of a global superstar partnering with a self-contained indie label rather than a major record company. Mariah Carey has confirmed she's finished work on her new album. The Type Dangerous singer has been busy recording her upcoming 16th record — the follow-up to 2018's Caution — and she quoted her own 2005 song It's Like That to tease the new collection. Speaking to Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden at the new Apple Music Studios during a live broadcast celebrating the steamer's 10th anniversary, she said: "I'm trying not to tell too much about the new album. 'It's a special occasion/ Mimi's emancipation' — that's a lyric from one of my songs. "What is next? The album coming out. I don't wanna tell too much about it because I just don't want to reveal the whole thing. It's finished." However, she did confirm the album has 11 or 12 songs, including some ballads. She teased: "We got some Mariah ballads... A second single is coming soon. "I'm very excited about it. It's very summery. I like the beat as well." Last month, the All I Want For Christmas Is You hitmaker dropped new single Type Dangerous, which samples Eric B. and Rakim's 1986 song Eric B. Is President. During the live broadcast, she explained: "I've always loved Eric B. Is President. It wasn't something like, 'Oh, I'm gonna flip this' — I just wouldn't think of doing it. "But then we were in this restaurant in Aspen and they had different music on, and they played Eric B. Is President and I was like, 'Oh my gosh! I love this song!' "We ended up in the studio a couple months later and we did it." The new song came after recently revealed he'd been working on new music with Mariah. The 39-year-old singer-and-producer let the news slip while appearing on social media series Track Star — where guests try to identify mystery songs — and he correctly guessed her 1996 track Always Be My Baby. Anderson — who was wearing a T-shirt with Mariah's face — said: "This would be Mariah Carey. The Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey releases new single 'Type Dangerous,' confirms 16th album is coming
Mariah Carey is officially back. The singer has just released the new song she's been teasing online for several days -- "Type Dangerous" -- and it is indeed the lead single off her 16th studio album, which she also teased. The song samples the hip-hop classic "Eric B. Is President" by Eric B. & Rakim. Carey said in a statement, "I'm so excited to finally be releasing 'Type Dangerous' into the world! I've been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I'm thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with 'Type Dangerous!'" Listen to the song here. The song begins with Carey saying, "To show my appreciation for your support, thank you, DJs," which echoes what a female voice says in the beginning of the Eric B. & Rakim song. As she says that, the sampled words "Make 'em clap to this" from "Eric B. Is President" play in the background. Elsewhere on the sassy track, Carey refers to various aspects of her life. "Taking off my coat, clearing my throat / Certified diamonds like the songs I wrote," she says in one line. In another, she croons, "Fresh outta Sing Sing, nah, I'm just playin' / That was just a castle and an evil king," an apparent reference to her former husband Tommy Mottola and the 51-acre estate they shared in Bedford, New York, which she jokingly called Sing Sing after the infamous maximum-security prison in Ossining, New York. A video for the song is set to arrive soon, directed by Joseph Kahn, who was behind the camera for her hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" video.
