76ers Bring Back Former Sixth Man of the Year on a 1-Year Deal: Report

76ers Bring Back Former Sixth Man of the Year on a 1-Year Deal: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia 76ers brought good news on Tuesday. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced that they've re-signed veteran guard Eric Gordon to a one-year, $3.6 million veteran minimum contract. Gordon had a $3.5 million player option, which he declined before agreeing to a new deal with the 76ers. Advertisement Last season, Gordon appeared in 39 games for Philadelphia. He played a veteran role and was limited to 19.7 minutes per game and couldn't finish the 2024-25 campaign as he was shut down by the 76ers after an arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist. The 2017 Sixth Man of the Year finished the year with 6.8 points and 1.7 assists on 40.9% shooting from deep. Philadelphia 76ers guard Eric Gordon controls the ball against the Miami Ross-Imagn Images The 76ers released a statement regarding the return of Gordon to the team. "Eric is a prolific shot maker whose ability to space the floor will serve our rotation well. He's been a great fit on and off the court with this organization and we're fortunate to have him back," Morey said. Advertisement Having Gordon back is a good sign for rookie guard VJ Edgecombe. The two were teammates at the Bahamian national team in 2023. Following the organization's draft selection, Edgecombe said he was happy to have a teammate in the NBA that he already knew. "Man, it means a lot. It's crazy me and EG are teammates now. EG is old, man. I tell him all the time, he's old, man... [Having] someone I already know on the team, that can help me," the No. 3 pick of the 2025 NBA draft said. Gordon will enter his 18th season in the NBA and will try to help the team contend for an NBA title. Eric Gordon inks new 1-year deal with Sixers

Eric Gordon inks new 1-year deal with Sixers originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Eric Gordon is officially still a Sixer. The 36-year-old guard has signed a new contract, the team announced Tuesday night. Before the moratorium ends (July 6 at 12:01 p.m. ET), teams are allowed to formalize one-year, minimum-salary deals. Advertisement Gordon declined his player option but always appeared likely to remain in Philadelphia. As PHLY's Derek Bodner detailed, hitting free agency and then re-signing will slightly raise Gordon's 2025-26 salary while also decreasing his cap hit. In a career-low 19.7 minutes per game last year, Gordon averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds. He shot 40.9 percent from three-point range on 3.5 attempts per contest. Though Gordon is clearly past his prime, the Sixers still see his outside shooting as useful. 'Eric is a prolific shot maker whose ability to space the floor will serve our rotation well,' Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey said in a team press release. 'He's been a great fit on and off the court with this organization and we're fortunate to have him back.' Advertisement The Sixers should have several much younger guards in the mix next season, including Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Gordon's Bahamian teammate VJ Edgecombe. Earlier Tuesday, the Sixers signed Edgecombe and Johni Broome to their rookie contracts and inked Hunter Sallis to his two-way deal. All three practiced at the Sixers' summer league minicamp, which is set to run through Wednesday ahead of the team's trip to the Salt Lake City summer league.

Sixers officially bring back Eric Gordon on deal after declining option

The Philadelphia 76ers found out shortly before the deadline for player and team options that Eric Gordon was going to decline his player option for the 2025-26 season and enter free agency. However, it was always a possibility for a return. Now, that possibility is a reality. The Sixers have officially announced that they have re-signed Gordon on a deal. He was limited to only 39 games in the 2024-25 season as he underwent wrist surgery, but he averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 40.9% from deep. Advertisement The 17-year vet shot a blistering 52.6% from deep in the month of January before going down with the injury, so he can still shoot the ball and be productive. Gordon also has a close relationship with rookie VJ Edgecombe from their time together on the Bahamian national team. He can be a productive player while being Edgecombe's vet for his rookie season. Gordon figures to be available and somebody coach Nick Nurse can turn to in a pinch. He likely won't be a consistent member of the rotation in the 2025-26 season, but when the Sixers need some shooting, he can hop off the bench and fill it up from beyond the arc. Kelly Oubre Jr. picking up player option to return to Philadelphia 76ers, report says

Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. is picking up his $8.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season, according to a report from ESPN on Sunday. Oubre signed the two-year, $16.3 million deal with the Sixers before the 2024-25 season. The 2025-26 season will be Oubre's third year in Philadelphia after he joined the team in the 2023-24 season on a one-year contract. Last season, Oubre averaged 15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and shot 47% from the field. He started 57 of the 60 games he played in and missed the final month of the season with a right knee injury. David Berding / Getty Images Sixers decline Lonnie Walker IV's team option; Eric Gordon declines player option The Sixers declined Lonnie Walker IV's team option on Sunday worth $2.9 million for next season, according to ESPN. Walker, a Reading, Pennsylvania, native, will now become a free agent. Walker averaged 12.4 points last season for the Sixers in 20 games, including seven starts. Veteran guard Eric Gordon declined his $3.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season, ESPN reports. The 36-year-old will now become a free agent, but ESPN reports a deal to return to the Sixers is still possible. Gordon played in 39 games last season and averaged 6.8 points and shot 40.9% on 3-pointers. When does NBA free agency start, and what will the Sixers do? After a busy offseason in 2024 that landed the team Paul George, the Sixers will likely be much quieter this free agency period. The team will look to bring back guard Quentin Grimes, who became a restricted free agent after Philadelphia tendered an $8.7 million qualifying offer, according to multiple reports, including The Athletic. Both sides are reportedly continuing to discuss a new deal. They'll also look to bring back forward Guerschon Yabusele, but he's an unrestricted free agent and expected to have interest from other teams. NBA teams can start negotiating with upcoming free agents on Monday at 6 p.m. They can start officially signing free agents next Sunday, July 6, at 12:01 p.m.
