Sixers officially bring back Eric Gordon on deal after declining option
Now, that possibility is a reality. The Sixers have officially announced that they have re-signed Gordon on a deal. He was limited to only 39 games in the 2024-25 season as he underwent wrist surgery, but he averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 40.9% from deep.

The 17-year vet shot a blistering 52.6% from deep in the month of January before going down with the injury, so he can still shoot the ball and be productive. Gordon also has a close relationship with rookie VJ Edgecombe from their time together on the Bahamian national team. He can be a productive player while being Edgecombe's vet for his rookie season.
Gordon figures to be available and somebody coach Nick Nurse can turn to in a pinch. He likely won't be a consistent member of the rotation in the 2025-26 season, but when the Sixers need some shooting, he can hop off the bench and fill it up from beyond the arc.

Luka Doncic Blamed for Ending LeBron James' Era in Los Angeles
Luka Doncic Blamed for Ending LeBron James' Era in Los Angeles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is never a dull moment in Los Angeles. As one of the most historic franchises in the NBA, the Lakers are always under the microscope. The franchise is set to change owners in a $10 billion transaction, while on the court, the Lakers are entering a new era with superstar guard Luka Doncic at the controls. Advertisement Doncic becoming the leading man in LA means that LeBron James is a supporting actor for the first time in his legendary career. The four-time NBA champion picked up his player option to return to the Lakers next season, but agent Rich Paul has made it clear that James will be watching to see which corresponding moves the team makes in free agency. As the Lakers move forward into a new era with Doncic at the helm, James seems to be contemplating the possibility that his record-breaking career could end with another franchise. And according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, this is perhaps the best-case scenario for the Lakers. "The moment the Lakers made that trade, the LeBron James era in Los Angeles ended," Bontemps said Wednesday on "First Take." Advertisement Once the Lakers completed the Doncic deal with the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 2, general manager Rob Pelinka's next move was to acquire a springy center who could play with Doncic. And even though the Lakers did not like the medical report on the Charlotte Hornets' Mark Williams, the message was clear: Los Angeles was no longer building around James and his skillset. "The fact that (James) is on an expiring contract, that's the best thing that the Lakers could have," Bontemps said. "What matters to them is making sure Luka Doncic has his priorities set, not LeBron James." Beginning next month, Doncic can sign a four-year extension in Los Angeles worth $229 million, or he can hit the market as a coveted free agent in 2026. Given that the Lakers are building their team around him, it stands to reason that Doncic will look favorably on the extension - and, perhaps, cast James' future with the franchise into further doubt. Red Wings sign winger Mason Appleton to 2-year contract worth $2.9 million per season
DETROIT — The Red Wings are adding some size to their bottom six, signing winger Mason Appleton to a two-year deal with a $2.9 million average annual value, league sources told The Athletic's Chris Johnston on Wednesday. Appleton had 10 goals and 22 points last season for the Jets but is only one year removed from a 14-goal, 36-point campaign in 2023-24. Detroit had been looking to add size and hardness to its lineup, and Appleton will help with that as a 6-foot-2 winger with good territorial impacts. Appleton profiles as a true third-liner and could slot in alongside fellow former Jet Andrew Copp, JT Compher, or both in that role for Detroit. The Red Wings have needed a harder element in their lineup, and Appleton looks like that style of role player who can still chip in some secondary offense. What's interesting is that the move comes a day after the Red Wings added James van Riemsdyk, who also would have been a logical third-line fit. It's possible both van Riemsdyk and Appleton could flank Copp or Compher on that line, with the other either playing up the lineup or centering the fourth line. It's also possible the veteran van Riemsdyk could get a look high in the lineup after a 16-goal campaign last season. Neither of those options would classify as the kind of splashy top-line addition fans in Detroit were hoping for, though. Advertisement It also remains to be seen if the Red Wings are done making moves, as Detroit still has more than $11 million in cap space. But in signing the 29-year-old Appleton to a fairly inexpensive short-term deal, the Red Wings have added to their depth and given themselves a veteran role player. — Max Bultman, Red Wings beat reporter

Dallas Mavericks sign No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg to rookie contract
Dallas Mavericks' Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, takes questions during an NBA basketball press conference at the team's practice facility, Friday, June 27, 2025, in Dallas. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez) DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks have signed No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg to his four-year rookie contract. The team didn't disclose details in announcing the deal Wednesday. The total value of the contract for the top pick on the 2025-26 rookie wage scale is in the range of $62.7 million, with a first-year salary of about $13.8 million, according to Spotrac. Those numbers can fluctuate slightly. Advertisement There are team options in the third and fourth seasons of rookie deals. Flagg said during his introductory news conference last week that he intends to play in the Summer League in Las Vegas later this month. The Mavericks' Summer League opener against the Los Angeles Lakers and Bronny James is set to be nationally televised on July 10. Flagg was taken with the top pick after Dallas converted just a 1.8% chance to win the draft lottery. The 18-year-old from Duke became the fourth freshman to win The Associated Press national player of the year honors in the 64-year history of the award. Flagg led the Blue Devils to the Final Four in his only season. The 6-foot-9 forward joins a frontcourt that should include 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis and promising young center Dereck Lively II, Flagg's fellow Duke alum. The Mavs shocked the NBA by sending 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Davis in February.
