Bayern Munich Reaches Club World Cup Quarterfinals with 4–2 Victory Over Flamengo
Miami – SABA: German giants Bayern Munich secured their place in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup by defeating Flamengo of Brazil 4–2 in a thrilling Round of 16 clash held early Sunday morning at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA. With this win, Bayern advances to a high-stakes encounter against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on July 5, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, to vie for a spot in the tournament's semifinals. The first half ended with Bayern leading 3–1. The scoring began early in the 6th minute when Chilean Erick Pulgar mistakenly scored an own goal, giving Bayern the lead. Harry Kane doubled the advantage in the 10th minute with a precise finish. Flamengo narrowed the gap in the 33rd minute through Gerson, who fired a powerful left-footed strike inside the box after a cross from Giorgian De Arrascaeta. However, Leon Goretzka restored Bayern's two-goal cushion with a goal in the 41st minute. In the second half, Jorginho reignited Flamengo's hopes by converting a penalty kick in the 55th minute to make it 3–2. But Harry Kane struck again in the 73rd minute, sealing the result with his second goal of the match and Bayern's fourth. This edition of the Club World Cup, hosted by the United States, is the first to feature 32 teams and is being played across 12 stadiums in 11 cities, from June 14 to July 13, 2025. Kane bags double as Bayern tame Flamengo to set up PSG clash
Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich tamed Flamengo 4-2 in a tense affair at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday to set up a much-anticipated all-European quarterfinal against Paris St Germain at the Club World Cup. Erick Pulgar's own goal opened the scoring for Bayern and Leon Goretzka was also on target for the German side, while Flamengo, who were defensively naive, twice reduced the deficit through Gerson and Jorginho. Backed by a raucous crowd, Flamengo played with aggression but Bayern converted all their shots on target and reaped the rewards of a fast start, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. 'It was tough. We were playing against a really good side in difficult conditions, it was really hot,' Kane said.
