Fire at large farm buildings tackled by six crews
Firefighters have been battling a blaze affecting two large agricultural buildings in a village. Six crews were called to reports of a significant fire in Finchingfield, Essex, at 06:08 BST. They found a former poultry shed, measuring 40m by 10m (131ft by 33ft), was alight and the flames had spread to a second structure. The incident was scaled down at about 08:50, with two crews remaining to monitor the scene. Bonfire warning after fire spreads to three Wormingford gardens
A fire service has issued a warning about lighting bonfires during the hot spell after a blaze got out of control and spread to three County Fire and Rescue Service were called to Wormingford, Colchester, after reports of trees and shrubs on manager Nick Singleton said: "When we arrived the bonfire had spread through some dry conifers, along hedgerow and into three gardens. When burning bonfires, weather conditions are important. If it's hot, dry and windy - we'd advise not to burn bonfires."It only takes an ember to get picked up by wind and for a fire to spread." The fire service advises anyone planning a bonfire to site it well away from houses, garages, sheds, fences, overhead cables - as well as trees and says never to leave a bonfire unattended and make sure stacks are must be kept supervised around planned fires - and the fire service also warned people not to use flammable liquids to light fires, or burn foam-filled furniture, paint or aerosols. Cylinders explode at farm buildings fire
Gas cylinders have exploded as crews tackled a fire that spread to several farm buildings and destroyed vehicles. Crews were called to Little Hallingbury, Essex, on the Hertfordshire border near Bishop's Stortford, at about 03:30 BST. They prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby thatched house and stable block, with horses inside, which were unharmed. Station manager Lee Hurst described it as a challenging incident to bring under control" with crews "met with a well-developed fire and very limited water supply". "Crews also had to contend with a number of gas cylinders inside the burning buildings, some of which exploded due to the intense heat," he added. Additional crews, including from Hertfordshire, helped tackle the fire. Water bowsers, which are large vehicles carrying significant amounts of water, were brought in to provide a sufficient water supply. Car fire may disrupt journeys to Timberlake gig
People heading to a music festival headlined by Justin Timberlake have been warned to expect travel delays due to a car fire. Crews were called to the blaze at about 18:35 BST, near the Tesco roundabout on the A131 at Great Notley in Essex. The fire affected about 400 yards (365m) of surrounding grassland, temporarily closing the road in both directions, a spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said. Up to 25,000 people are expected to watch artists at Chelmsford City Live throughout the weekend. Timberlake is due to headline the event at Chelmsford City Racecourse on Friday; Duran Duran top the bill on Saturday, and Olly Murs is due to headline on Sunday.
