Firefighters have been battling a blaze affecting two large agricultural buildings in a village. Six crews were called to reports of a significant fire in Finchingfield, Essex, at 06:08 BST. They found a former poultry shed, measuring 40m by 10m (131ft by 33ft), was alight and the flames had spread to a second structure. The incident was scaled down at about 08:50, with two crews remaining to monitor the scene. A fire service has issued a warning about lighting bonfires during the hot spell after a blaze got out of control and spread to three County Fire and Rescue Service were called to Wormingford, Colchester, after reports of trees and shrubs on manager Nick Singleton said: "When we arrived the bonfire had spread through some dry conifers, along hedgerow and into three gardens. Crews were called to Little Hallingbury, Essex, on the Hertfordshire border near Bishop's Stortford, at about 03:30 BST. They prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby thatched house and stable block, with horses inside, which were unharmed. Station manager Lee Hurst described it as a challenging incident to bring under control" with crews "met with a well-developed fire and very limited water supply". "Crews also had to contend with a number of gas cylinders inside the burning buildings, some of which exploded due to the intense heat," he added. Additional crews, including from Hertfordshire, helped tackle the fire. Water bowsers, which are large vehicles carrying significant amounts of water, were brought in to provide a sufficient water supply.
