RCMP investigating fire that destroyed Happy Valley-Goose Bay home

A structure fire in Happy Valley-Goose Bay over the weekend saw several residents lose their homes. Fire chief Brad Butler said the town's fire department responded to the incident in the Spruce Park neighbourhood on Sunday around 6 p.m. He said a tenant of the main unit, which was largely destroyed by the fire, escaped through a back window. Three other homes sustained major damage and are now uninhabitable. "I've got all three of my fire trucks here… We had upwards of 20 volunteers," Butler told CBC News on Sunday. "It was a quick knockdown." He said the flames were put out in less than half an hour despite the 30-degree heat. The firewalls between each unit also helped firefighting efforts, he added. On Monday, the RCMP told CBC News no one was injured and all residents are accounted for. "An RCMP fire investigator attended the scene and the investigation into the fire is ongoing," said the statement.
