Liverpool finally enter race for €80m PHENOMENON

Liverpool have belatedly entered the race for one of Europe's hottest strikers. Can they get a deal done? Liverpool are in the market for a striker this summer. Exactly who they'll land on is a bit of a mystery, however. Advertisement Alexander Isak is the dream. The Newcastle United striker ticks every single box right now and there's no question that Liverpool would love to sign him. Newcastle are very much aware of this, too, and set his price accordingly: roughly £150m. It would smash to the British transfer record and honestly, there's no guarantee they'd even accept that. Thus Liverpool must look at other options. That's included Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko - two of the best young strikers in Europe. But is that really what the Reds are after? We get the impression that they'd prefer to sign a player entering his prime rather than a work-in-progress talent. Advertisement And that might explain why they've belatedly entered the race for one of Europe's top goalscorers. Liverpool enter Viktor Gyokeres race Correio da Manha reports that Liverpool have now entered the race for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede have been an absolute revelation since arriving in Portugal. 43 goals in his debut campaign was followed by a ridiculous 54 in 52 games last season. His effort in the league (39 goals) finished second in the running for the European Golden Boot. That naturally has teams looking at him, though Arsenal are the only club to have made a bid. Sporting rejected the offer of around €65m all-in, says the report. Advertisement The Portuguese champions want close to €80m in order to sell Gyokeres but it's said here that Liverpool will not pay that. It creates the impression that they're simply putting a bit of pressure on the situation in order to lower that price tag.

Kylian Mbappe to wear jersey No. 10 for Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe could soon start wearing the iconic jersey No. 10 for Real Madrid, according to the newspaper Marca. 10 is his number when he plays for France and played for PSG, but since Luka Modric had that number for Real Madrid, Mbappe played wearing No. 9. He didn't do badly either, scoring 43 goals, top scoring at La Liga, and winning the European Golden Boot. But Marca reports that this likely switch isn't at the behest of the player but is coming from the Real Madrid club itself. 'It would be an update to the personal and club image of a player who, aside from his sporting performance, is a true money-making machine for the club in terms of image rights. And, in this sense, inheriting the number 10 from Modric, a Ballon d'Or winner, would boost his brand in every way,' Marca states. Mbappe is currently recovering from a bout of gastroenteritis that made him miss initial games at the Club World Cup; it's reported that he has lost at least 5-6 kgs. 👕 A special shirt for a special day! 🌟 @KMbappe #WelcomeMbappé — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) July 16, 2024 In July 2024, when he joined Real Madrid, he was unveiled in front of a packed Santiago Bernabeu crowd of over 25,000 fans. Mbappe who was handed the No.9 jersey waved to the fans, embraced club president Pérez and former Madrid player and coach Zinedine Zidane, who invited Mbappé to visit the Spanish club for the first time when he was just a teenager. 'It's incredible day for me. Since being a kid I dreamed about playing for Madrid and today I'm here. It means a lot to me,' the French superstar said then. The message 'Welcome, Mbappé' was shown on the large video boards at the Bernabeu. Some of the club's most iconic moments were also shown while the song 'Nessun Dorma' was played on the loudspeakers. Images of Mbappe's career were also displayed, as well as photos including Mbappé wearing Madrid's uniform as a kid and posing alongside former club star Cristiano Ronaldo The club had also tweeted out his jersey no 9 then.

Real Madrid goal machine could wear the No. 10 jersey next season

Real Madrid goal machine could wear the No. 10 jersey next season Kylian Mbappe has been going through a tough time ever since landing on US soil earlier this month. The Frenchman is suffering from a viral illness, which has taken a heavy toll on his body while forcing him to miss Real Madrid's opening two matches in the FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement Reports suggest Mbappe may have lost around 4-5 kilos due to his viral illness and the player could even miss Real Madrid's next match against RB Salzburg. Mbappe may wear number ten shirt next season While Mbappe's fitness is definitely a concern, MARCA reports that there is also some chatter going on about the Frenchman's shirt number next season. After a stellar debut campaign wearing number 9, where he plundered 43 goals to win the Pichichi and the European Golden Boot, a significant change could be on the horizon. The iconic number 10 jersey, long owned by club legend Luka Modric, will be vacant following the Croatian's departure at the conclusion of the Club World Cup. That spot now could be occupied by Mbappe. Mbappe dons the number ten shirt for France. (Photo by) Advertisement When the Frenchman initially arrived, there was no debate about the number, as it rightly belonged to Modric, so the Frenchman took the number 9 shirt. But with Modric leaving, Real Madrid need to fill up the number ten slot and there is no better candidate than Mbappe. Mbappe wears the iconic number ten shirt for Les Bleus and used to wear the same number during his time at AS Monaco. At PSG, Mbappe never surprisingly donned the number 10 kit, primarily playing with the number seven kit. While Mbappe has not requested the change, the Real Madrid hierarchy believes that the number 10 would cement his status as the undisputed leader and star of the current project.

Kylian Mbappe Wins European Golden Boot Award

Rabat – Kylian Mbappe has won this season's European Golden Boot after scoring 31 goals in La Liga and finishing top scorer at Real Madrid. The 26-year-old netted a double in Real's final game of the season, claiming top spot in the European rankings ahead of Sporting striker Victor Gyokeres (39 goals) and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah (29 goals). Even though Viktor Gyökeres scored eight more league goals than Kylian Mbappe, he still finished second because of the weighted-points system used to rank players. In Europe's top five leagues Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1, each goal is worth 2 points. Meanwhile, goals scored in leagues ranked 6th to 22nd in UEFA's coefficient, such as the Portuguese Primeira Liga, are worth 1.5 points. Mbappe has won this award for the first time since moving to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He is the first Real Madrid player to win it since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2015 and the first to do so with over 30 goals since Lionel Messi in 2019. He ended the campaign with 42 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions, making him Real Madrid's best scorer in all competitions Mbappe had a solid individual season, but he would have hoped for more team success. Real Madrid managed to win the European Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, but they missed out on bigger trophies. However, there's still a chance for Mbappe and Real Madrid to add another title under their new coach, Xabi Alonso. They will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off in the US on June 15. If Mbappe keeps scoring like this, the summer tournament could improve his chances for the Ballon d'Or. Tags: Kylian Mbappembappe
