The 2024-25 season ended with a Pichichi Trophy showdown. Kylian Mbappé won it.
Kylian Mbappé's brilliance secures Pichichi Trophy
Mbappé won the 2024-25 La Liga Pichichi Trophy with 31 goals for Real Madrid. In the last game on May 25, 2025, he scored 2 against Real Sociedad and won 2-0. He missed a penalty but scored from the rebound. His second goal was from a Vinicius Junior pass, easy for him to score. He scored 9 in his last 5 games, more than everyone else.
Here are the top scorers in La Liga this season:
Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid): 31 goals
Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona): 25 goals
Ante Budimir (Osasuna): 21 goals
Ayoze Perez (Villarreal): 19 goals
Raphinha (Barcelona): 18 goals
Even though Mbappé won the award, Real Madrid came second to Barcelona and didn't win big trophies.
His 31 goals also got him the European Golden Boot.
Robert Lewandowski's strong season falls short
Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona's older striker, scored 25 goals in the 2024-25 La Liga season, coming second behind Mbappé. He worked hard but was six goals behind the winner. Football365 said he scored two goals in Barcelona's last game against Athletic Bilbao, showing he's still great at 36. His 25 goals helped Barcelona win the league, but he didn't get the Pichichi.

Barcelona end La Liga with 3-0 win; Robert Lewandowski misses out on Golden Boot to Kylian Mbappe
People on X said Lewandowski did well with goals and assists, helping his team a lot. But Mbappé's many goals in the last games were too much for him. Other players like Ante Budimir, Ayoze Perez, and Raphinha scored a lot too, but they were far behind the top two. Mbappé's speed and skill made him the best, while Lewandowski had a good season but missed the top award. Both players will try again next season.
The 2024-25 La Liga season had an exciting race for the top goal scorer. Mbappé's 31 goals won him the Pichichi and the European Golden Boot. Lewandowski scored 25 goals but couldn't win. Fans can't wait to see what happens next season.

Low group stage turnout puts pressure on FIFA Club World Cup knock
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is entering its knockout stage with plenty to prove—especially off the pitch. After a group phase marked by underwhelming attendance, FIFA now faces the challenge of reigniting fan engagement. More than one million empty seats were recorded across 48 group-stage matches, prompting concern about the tournament's ability to capture global attention despite its expanded format. While FIFA touted the participation of fans from 168 countries as a success, many stadiums—including 2026 World Cup venues—saw less than half their capacities filled. With heavyweights like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami now entering the fray, organisers will hope for a sharp rise in energy and excitement as the tournament progresses. Sparse Crowds Despite Global Reach Despite FIFA's emphasis on international ticket sales, average attendance during the group stage was just over 34,700—a figure that represents 56.7% of listed seating capacity. MetLife Stadium, set to host the 2026 World Cup final, recorded a mere 44.9% fill rate across five matches. Other key venues, such as the Rose Bowl and Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, fared similarly poorly. FIFA has remained tight-lipped on the matter, declining media requests for detailed comment from president Gianni Infantino. Knockouts Set to Feature European Dominance As the round of 16 kicks off, nine of the advancing teams are European clubs, with four from Brazil and one each from MLS, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. With heavyweights like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich in action, a Champions League–like dominance seems inevitable. Notably, Manchester City was the only side to win all three group games. Weather Worries and Star Power The group stage saw five weather delays amid extreme summer temperatures, raising concerns ahead of the expanded 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, global stars are making headlines—Lionel Messi continues to shine for Inter Miami, while Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé missed all group matches due to illness, with coach Xabi Alonso hopeful for his return. Brazil's Strong Showing All four Brazilian clubs have reached the knockout rounds, underlining the country's depth and competitive strength. Botafogo's win over PSG highlighted South America's challenge to European supremacy, while Flamengo, Fluminense, and Palmeiras have all impressed.

FC Barcelona Confirm Nou Camp Reopening After Two Years Of Redevelopment
Barcelona are set to return to their traditional home base Nou Camp for a Joan Gamper Trophy match ahead of the 2025-26 La Liga season. Barcelona have officially announced the reopening date of their iconic home stadium, Nou Camp. After two years of redevelopment, the revamped venue will host its first match on August 10, when the team takes part in the Joan Gamper Trophy, their traditional pre-season fixture. Originally slated to be ready last year, the renovation project faced multiple delays. Although the stadium won't be fully completed by August, it will still welcome fans for the high-profile friendly. In an official statement, the club said: 'Remaining works include the completion of the new third tier, the dual VIP ring, the roof installation, and the final touches to various interior spaces, as well as the urban development of the stadium's surrounding area." The Joan Gamper Trophy serves as a curtain-raiser ahead of the new La Liga season, and this year it marks an emotional return to the club's spiritual home. 'During this period, the Club will strive to ensure the highest level of comfort for members, fans, and visitors to the Spotify Camp Nou, facilitating access and adapting services to offer the best possible experience." 'To celebrate this moment, FC Barcelona has launched an epic and emotional campaign under the slogan 'Tornem a casa, vibrem'. With this return, FC Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium." Barcelona's opponents for the Joan Gamper Trophy fixture are yet to be confirmed but reports are that Serie A club Como could be invited. The Nou Camp will operate at a reduced capacity between 50,000 and 60,000 fans for the match. The capacity of the ground will increase up to 1,05,000 once the redevelopment project is completed. The work has cost Barcelona £1.25billion since it started, but the returns are expected to make up for the expenses over time, with the ground anticipated to earn the club an extra £25million revenue per year. Ever since leaving Nou Camp, Barcelona have been playing their home games at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium located nearby. First Published:
