Honda Super EV concept: Electric city car looks almost production ready

Honda will unveil the Super EV concept at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the tiny electric hatchback looks almost ready to roll down the factory line. The company has so far only released one photo of the car, wrapped in disguise, crossing Westminster Bridge in front of the UK's Houses of Parliament. In recent times most of Honda's concepts have previewed production cars that are about a year or two from launch, such as the Prelude, which come out as a concept in 2023 and will go for a run up the hill at Goodwood in production form this year. The Super EV looks to fit into this mould with its production-ready full-size wing mirrors, fully-framed windows, functioning door handles, and reasonably-sized wheel and tyre combo. The only show car element that might be dropped in the transition to the showroom are the concept's wide and chunky wheel arches. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The Super EV is described by Honda as an A-segment model, meaning that it will compete against the upcoming all-electric Renault Twingo in Europe. It may even fall within kei car dimensions — a maximum of 3.4m long and 1.48m wide — which would allow it to be sold in Japan with lower taxes and road charges. Thanks to its round headlights, the Super EV's styling even fits into the template used by Honda's N family of kei cars, such as the N-One (above). Honda says the concept marries 'fun-to-drive' with 'trademark Honda usability', and has been out and about in the UK as part of its global development program. 2020 Honda e Credit: CarExpert There's no word yet on the Super EV's drivetrain details, but hopefully it will be more competitive than the E hatchback (above), which earned plaudits for its retro styling, but failed largely due to its pricing and limited range. Equipped with a 35.5kWh battery, and a 100kW or 113kW motor driving the front wheels, the E had a WLTP range rating of just 222km. The 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place between July 10 and 13. MORE: Everything Honda

Mahindra's AI is the "fastest in the automotive world"

Mahindra claims to have the most advanced in-vehicle artificial intelligence (AI) system, with its latest vehicle architecture taking a significant leap in using machine learning to transform how cars monitor drivers and interact with their environments. The Indian automaker, which is also the fifth largest IT provider in India, has introduced a new AI system called MAIA (Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture), which it claims is the 'fastest automotive mind in the world' and can process 51 trillion operations per second, enabling complex real-time analysis of driver behaviour. As a comparison, a current-generation iPhone 16 Pro Max's A180 Pro chip can complete 35 trillion operations per second. Maia uses a Snapdragon 8295 chip with embedded 5G capabilities. Its driver occupant monitoring system (DOMS) can detect mobile phone usage, track passenger movements, and recognise potential safety risks – reporting them both inside the vehicle and also to external sources. 'We're learning how to use AI in practical ways,' said the lead engineer. For example, the system utilises five radars and multiple cameras to continuously train its auto park assistant, thereby improving parking accuracy through machine learning algorithms. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Other system capabilities include detecting driver posture, monitoring passenger behaviour, and providing advanced diagnostic information. Interestingly, AI is also being used in the development process itself. Engineers are now utilising machine learning to generate test cases and verify algorithms, particularly in complex areas such as accent recognition in voice interfaces. CarExpert visited a lab in Chennai, India, where this development was taking place. Currently, the system focuses on monitoring and data collection rather than direct driving intervention. While not yet controlling the vehicle, the technology represents a significant step towards more adaptive automotive systems. The architecture enables software partners to integrate new applications more easily, suggesting a more flexible approach to vehicle development in the future. Mahindra's approach highlights a growing trend in automotive technology: transforming vehicles from simple transportation tools into intelligent, data-driven platforms that can learn and adapt. As with all other brands, the move toward more data and intelligent overlays opens the door to numerous privacy concerns with vehicles that can not only monitor and record their drivers but also dob on them. Miriam O'Callaghan to tell of 'worst year of life' as she releases first memoir

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info RTE star Miriam O'Callaghan has revealed she is set to release her first memoir. Miriam: Life, Work, Everything will be published on October 30 and will be the Prime Time host's first book. The mum-of-eight is set to dish details on her personal life and fascinating insights into a career that has given her a ringside seat to a changing Ireland. Speaking about her memoir, Miriam admitted it has taken 20 years to write and she is set to tell all about "the worst year of my life" in 1995. She said: "I have written my memoir, I can't believe I am saying that. It's 20 years since Sandycove first sent me a contract - let's just say, it's taken a while! "I thank them for their patience, persistence and belief in my story. I have always lived my life in fast forward, so I never thought I would have the time to look back and reflect. "I also reflect on the worst year of my life, 1995, my BC and AD - the year that forced me to rethink everything. I also wondered if anyone would be interested. Then one day not that long ago - with a prompt from Patricia Deevy - I decided I would write it, because if I didn't write it now, I might never do so." The Dubliner said she thought the book would focus solely on her work as a Journalist but instead she will open up about her family life also. "At first I thought it would just be about my work as a journalist, but then when I began writing I realised how impossible it was to separate my professional and personal lives. "I don't know if that's because I'm a woman or a mother or both or none of those things, but I just knew that for my story to be authentic and truthful, I couldn't simply focus on the work side of my life. "My career in broadcast journalism over four decades has mirrored a profoundly changed Ireland and I have been lucky enough to have had an eyewitness view. It was a privilege to cover the peace process for both the BBC and RTÉ, and at times it has been emotional looking back. "Major career moments include: presenting on the days of both the Good Friday Agreement and when we all voted by a whopping majority on this island for peace; campaigning for John Hume to be voted as 'Ireland's Greatest' person in 2010; presenting the Marriage Referendum results from Dublin Castle in 2015 and my interview with Leo Varadkar that same year when he was the first cabinet minister in the history of our country to come out as a gay man. "When members of the public come up to me, they will often ask about certain programmes or interviews I have done, but more often than not they, usually women, quickly segue into asking me about having eight children and how I managed to hold down a big career, so that's why my story is about life, work and everything." But Miriam said she is "very nervous" about telling her story to the public. "In truth I am nervous about telling my story - it's probably why it took me so long to write it. All I can hope is that people will read it and find it interesting, authentic, entertaining and hopeful." Patricia Deevy, Deputy Publisher at Sandycove, said: "I am thrilled and honoured Miriam chose Sandycove as the home for her wonderful memoir. "She is a one-off as a journalist, broadcaster and all-round legend, and her book is a one-off too. It has been a joy working with her on it. "As the subtitle says, 'Miriam' covers life, work and everything in between. Having finally decided to tell her story, Miriam approached it with characteristic wholeheartedness, and she writes with such candour, intelligence and generosity that readers will be totally captivated."
