Movie Tea: 'Evil Dead Burn' Enters Production; 'Barbarian' Director To Lead New 'Resident Evil' Movie

Zombies are once again coming back from the dead to take over movie theatres starting next year! From 'Resident Evil' receiving its redemption arc, to 'Evil Dead' receiving a new director – here's the latest and juiciest news on upcoming movies that you can sink your teeth into! Sébastien Vaniček Carries On The Torch For New 'Evil Dead' Movie It's common sense at this point that when you see a cursed book — you don't open it. Unfortunately, some people just can't help but let their curiosity get the better of them. Luckily for us, that means we get to enjoy a new movie, courtesy of Sam Raimi and his upcoming 'Evil Dead' entry. That's right, the 'Evil Dead' franchise is once again rising from the grave to wreak havoc on the living, this time with an entry titled 'Evil Dead Burn'. The news originated from a simple Instagram post – but not from Raimi. Rather, this post came from the French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček. Known for his work in 'Infested' (2023) and 'Crocs' (2018), the relatively green filmmaker is appointed as this film's director in what appears to be a Herculean task. Despite this, you can still feel the energy from this director courtesy of his post, where he shares a photo of a movie clapper with the movie's title and his name as its director, as well as a sneak peek of who the cameraman is. In the post above, we can see one Philip Lozano, a veteran cinematographer known for his work on 'District B13' (2004) and 'Now You See Me' (2013), as the camera operator for the upcoming movie. Outside of the official announcement that shooting is now underway, we don't know anything about 'Evil Dead Burn,' not even if this entry will continue the story of 'Evil Dead Rise' (2023) or any of the previous entries, for that matter. It is being produced by Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Lee Cronin, which might hint that it might be a separate entry, especially with Cronin staying in the producer's chair. However, we aren't completely in the dark about 'Evil Dead Burn.' We know Vaniček wrote the screenplay for the movie, alongside Florent Bernard. Furthermore, it will also include recognisable actors such as Hunter Doohan, Souheila Yacoub, Luciane Buchanan, and Tandi Wright. We can expect 'Evil Dead Burn' to hit cinemas on 24th July, 2026. Zach Cregger To Make 'Resident Evil' Movie More Like The Games Yes, we've all heard it before: some video games were never meant to be turned into movies. You can try, but you can only blame yourself when you set the expectations so high and the movie fails to meet them. No franchise was more of a victim of this than the hit zombie game 'Resident Evil.' However, much like 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' or 'Sonic the Hedgehog', all it needed was a fresh new visionary who's willing to give the IP a try. And who is more worthy of this challenge than horror genre innovator and 'Barbarian' director Zach Cregger? Speaking with Cregger discussed his history with the franchise and how it affected his upcoming take. The director himself is a notable fan of the franchise, boasting that he has 'played all of the games', specifically the most popular one, 'Resident Evil 4'. He is a dedicated enjoyer of Capcom's zombie shooter and would like to take a crack at hopefully succeeding where others have failed. In the interview, he notably stated that 'I just want to tell a story that feels like it's honouring the experience you get when you play the games.' Though Cregger has never seen a single adaptation of his beloved franchise, he seems to be extremely confident in the project, saying that 'I think the movie is going to rip.' Then again, knowing how the movies went, he probably decided to save himself and the adapted franchise altogether by making a newer entry. Naturally, as it is still in its early stages, we don't know what game entry the movie will adapt or if it will be an entirely new and original story made for the big screen. Furthermore, Cregger has stressed that he will be loose when it comes to the Resident Evil lore, but will still do his best to create an authentic experience. has gone on to add that the film might focus more on the 'outskirts of Racoon City,' suggesting that the movie will be either focusing on 'Resident Evil 2' or 'Resident Evil 3.' What we know for sure is that the adaptation is slated for an 18th September, 2026, release window. Sources: Empire,

M3GAN 2.0 risks crossing ‘really fine line' with explicit jokes

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Film bosses had intense conversations about whether multiple vagina jokes were acceptable in the M3GAN 2.0 sequel, director Gerard Johnstone has confessed. Two years after the murderous doll, expertly played by Amie Donald, went on a rampage on the big screen, she has returned for a second helping alongside Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps. In a fresh take on the horror movie sequel, this time there is some doll on doll – or robot on robot – action as she faces off against Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), another creation who is transformed into a military bot. However, things take a turn when she becomes self-aware and targets her creators, leaving Gemma (Allison) no choice but to upgrade Megan's software to give them all a fighting chance of survival. Speaking to Metro ahead of the release on June 27, filmmaker Gerard shed light on the truth behind the character's sassiness, and whether they ever crossed a 'really fine line' in the script. 'There were conversations about whether or not you can have two vagina jokes in one movie,' he let slip. 'But in the end, the fun won out in that one, so we went for it. 'I was conscious of what the line is going into it. As I've been saying to a lot of people, bless them, the marketing campaign of this movie has been huge, but it sort of sometimes portrays the movie as being a little bit more camp than it really is. 'This really rides a fine line of tension and humor, and as we do this film, we're very conscious of that, of never overstepping the mark.' While Gerard and co were worried about overstepping, they made sure that fans of different genres of movies would be delighted with the finished product. After the trailer for the follow-up premiered, many were concerned that the scary elements that made the first movie so iconic had been swapped with an action-heavy plot. Despite some differences, the director has promised that the 'horror DNA' is still as present – and compared his plans for the creepy doll to another huge movie franchise. 'For me, it's an extension of the character,' he continued. 'When I was a kid, the Evil Dead movies were a huge influence on me, and I was freaked out by 1, rocked by 2 – but also conscious that it had a sense of humor – and then 3 was just this flat-out adventure with demons in it. 'To me, that was just such a great reminder that you don't have to be bound by limitations, as long as you have a great character and you're true to the origins of your tale. I think that's what is happening with M3GAN 2.0, really. 'We're conscious of the fact that she's this murder-bot, but if we're going to have a redemption story for her, then why not move into more of the action realm, and espionage? Certainly, if a technology like Megan exists, it would be used in military robots. It would be an infiltration Android. 'I just thought, if a technology like Megan existed, this is the most obvious way to use it. Instead of drones, you can send in something that looks like a human and it's a much more targeted way of carrying out strikes. 'As soon as I looked at it from a logical point of view, it just made sense that the genre would have to change.' More Trending 'Having said that there are a lot of sequences in the movie that are anchored in a horror DNA,' he insisted. 'Especially Megan's lair, for example. But it's a different kind of horror. It's more mood and atmosphere, and it's undoubtedly more fun. 'We've taken the villain from the first movie and put her center stage. By virtue of doing that, it's not going to be quite as creepy as the first movie, but it's a different experience, and one that I still think is a hell of a lot of fun.' He's definitely not wrong… M3GAN 2.0 is in cinemas from June 27. Got a story? 'Evil Dead In Concert' Launches U.S. Tour This Fall

Black Ink Presents, a division of Terrapin Station Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment, today announced its next live-to-film production that resurrects Sam Raimi's beloved cult classic in a way audiences have never seen before — in this lifetime. Evil Dead In Concert ( launches September 22 in Buffalo, New York as screams meet strings in 50 cities this fall, including a special three night event in Los Angeles for Halloween. The screening of the legendary cult film in a newly restored format is brought to life on stage while a live ensemble performs the entire original musical score from composer Joe LoDuca. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 13th. 'The ultimate horror movie concert experience has arrived with a night of cinematic chaos, demonic energy, and killer sounds,' says John Kinsner, CEO of Black Ink Presents, the producer of 'Evil Dead In Concert.' Kinsner, a fellow horror enthusiast and fan of the film franchise, adds 'It's not every day you get to watch someone chainsaw a demon while a live ensemble performs.' Evil Dead follows five college students on vacation in an isolated cabin in the woods, where they unwittingly release absolute evil into the world and have to fight to survive. It is known as one of the most significant cult horror films of all time, and has generated a massive following worldwide since the film's theatrical release on October 15, 1981. LoDuca's score is orchestral but experimental, blending eerie strings, pounding percussion, and screeching sound effects to emphasize dread and supernatural chaos. 'I am so excited for audiences around the country to join us on an intense, aural descent into hell with this beautiful score and all its madness,' says LoDuca, who began his film career by composing the iconic score for director Raimi. Remarkably, it was his first film score. Following the success of Evil Dead, he became a frequent collaborator with Raimi and went on to win multiple Emmys for his scoring work. Most recently, he released a reimagined version of the original Evil Dead score called 'Evil Dead: A Nightmare Reimagined,' where he re-recorded and expanded on the original musical themes of the movie. Black Ink Presents is known for its extensive history of breathing new life into iconic films with symphonies, orchestras, or bands live on stage, including Labyrinth, Batman , Ghostbusters , The Nightmare Before Christmas , Rocketman , La La Land , and more.
