Imphal gears up for Durand opener at Khuman Lampak
Imphal: The historic city of Imphal is all set to host the 134th edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia. The tournament will kick off in Imphal on July 30 and continue until Aug 12, with the opening game scheduled at the iconic Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, a venue that stands as a symbol of pride for Manipur and football fans across the state. The stadium is fully prepared for the major event. With its lush green field, upgraded seating areas, and polished infrastructure, Khuman Lampak is all set to welcome the teams and spectators for an unforgettable football experience when the first match here kicks off at 4 PM on Wednesday. The home teams, TRAU FC and NEROCA FC, are expected to receive massive support from local fans during the much-anticipated opening match between them. Indian Navy FT have already arrived in Imphal and begun their training sessions, while Real Kashmir FC is scheduled to arrive on 29th July. Match referees and officials have also reached Imphal and are fully prepared. Security preparations are being carried out with the utmost priority. Practice grounds, team accommodations and match-day routes are under round-the-clock surveillance. Senior Army officials and state govt officials have held several meetings to ensure seamless execution of the plans. Ticket sales officially began on Friday and reports suggest that the opening ceremony is likely to draw a huge crowd.

Naqvi commends FC's role in establishing peace across Balochistan
QUETTA: Inter Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday praised Frontier Corps Balochistan North for its remarkable services in establishing peace across the province. He stated this during his visit to the Headquarters of Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan North in Quetta, where he was warmly received and presented with a ceremonial guard of honour by FC troops. FC Inspector General Major General Abid Mazhar introduced the interior minister to senior officers of FC North. Minister Naqvi also laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial, offered Fateha, and prayed for the elevation of ranks of the martyrs.

Kurram district: tribal elders sign one-year peace treaty
PESHAWAR: The tribal elders of more than two dozen villages of the district Kurram have reached on a peace treaty for one year. According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) district Kurram Ashfaq Ahmed, the tribes of Lower Kurram Topki, Sameer, Gosar, Amal Kot, Gharbina, Sangina, Gundizar, Mengak, Tangay, Munda, Marukhel and adjoining areas, as well as Sadda, Kochi, Sateen, Shisho, Durrani, Pir Qayyum, Sakhi Ahmed Shah, Mulla Jan Kalley, Chakki Kalley, Aravalli, Lower Mandori and adjoining areas have declared a peace treaty for a period of one year. The parties will remain in peace for one year. In this connection, an extraordinary jirga was held at Frontier Corps (FC) Fort Sadda under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kurram. During the jirga the prominent chiefs of Turi Bangash tribes, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kurram, officers of police, security forces and concerned Assistant Commissioners participated in the jirga. The tribal chiefs declared a one-year truce and reiterated that they would fully implement the Murree Agreement and the Kohat Peace Accords. On this occasion, the tribal chiefs described the peace agreement a milestone for maintenance of peace in the region and pledged that they would jointly work for peace, development and prosperity in Kurram district as usual. The tribal chiefs also paid tribute to the role of security forces, district administration and police for peace in the area. Speaking on this occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kurram Ashfaq Ahmed said that the establishment of peace in the beautiful valleys of district Kurram was made possible only with the cooperation of regional leaders and the immense sacrifices of the security forces for peace in the area, which is highly commendable. The tribal elites and elders termed the peace agreement good omen for the establishment of peace in Kurram district. Similarly, tribal leader Haji Abdul Manan said that the peace agreement will help in the establishment of peace soon while Jalal Bangash and Younis Ali said that after this agreement, the path has been paved for the establishment of peace and the problems of the people will mitigate. Other tribal elders including Amjad Bangash and Syed Tajammul Hussain also termed the agreement a good omen for the region and urged the government to further accelerate peace efforts. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kurram, Aamir Nawaz said that the time has come for the tribes to play their full role in establishing peace, which will reduce public hardships and restore normal life in the district soon. ‘Never forget they are wild': Elephant tramples 39-year-old millionaire to death; animal lover declared dead at scene
FC Conradie, a 39-year-old millionaire and co-owner of Gondwana Game Reserve in South Africa, was trampled to death by an adult male elephant. He was trying to move elephants away from tourist lodges when one suddenly charged. South African police confirmed that 'an employee' was reported to have been killed by an elephant. 'He had been trampled and mauled by the elephant, and the emergency services declared the man dead at the scene, and rangers moved the elephant away to another area,' Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp said. The park is popular with celebrities and costs £900 (more than ₹ 1 lakh) per couple per night. It's not clear if guests saw the attack. This was the second deadly elephant attack at the reserve, according to MailOnline. Conradie loved elephants and often photographed them. FC trusted the elephants, but they were still wild. The millionaire lived in Stellenbosch with his wife La-ida and their three sons, aged 6, 11 and 12. Conradie had degrees in zoology, commerce, animal studies and marketing. A senior source said everyone had been warned not to speak. 'Because he is the boss man, everybody has been warned to say absolutely nothing or they will be out the same day, it is a big clamp down,' MailOnline quoted the source as saying. 'FC was a great guy to work for, and he loved his elephants, which were his favourite, and he felt he had a trust with them, but you have to never forget they may live in a reserve but are wild. He will be greatly missed by all here,' the source said. An investigation is going on as the elephant that killed him may be from the same herd that killed guide David Kandela earlier. In March 2024, guide Kandela was killed when an elephant injured the 36-year-old and other elephants tore him apart. A close friend of David said Gondwana had failed to inform his wife and son about his death. His wife came to know about it through Facebook. The park gave no help or compensation to raise their son, the friend said. David was killed by an elephant named Bonny while guiding her through the Eco Tent Lodge. She suddenly charged at him, and the other rangers had no guns. They only had stones to defend him. Bonny had come from a circus, but no one knew the reason for her coming to the park. According to the friend, two similar deaths in a short time cannot be a 'one-off'.

EA Sports FC 26 preview - rip it up and start again
This year's EA Sports FC 26 has been revealed at last and it's going to be fundamentally different from its somewhat unloved predecessor. The franchise previously known as FIFA is one of the games industry's great cash cows. However, it has had a rocky time recently, when two years ago EA made the break from the famously money-hungry FIFA and rebranded the series to FC. At first this seemed to work out fine but last year's iteration, FC 25, didn't live up to EA Sports' sales expectations. To their credit, EA's response to that failure has been immediate and seemingly far reaching, when it comes to the changes being made to FC 26. EA has cited community feedback as the driving force behind EA Sports FC 26's radical rework. The company has released a raft of presentations to insiders, covering every aspect of the game but, tellingly, the first of those was conducted by Sheldon Rogers, head of FC 26's global community team, who said: 'When we say 'The club is yours,' we really mean it. We have been tracking what is most important to our players, and bringing that directly into our development process.' So what, exactly, has that process brought to FC 26? Undoubtedly the headline change will be that for the first time in the franchise's history, players will be able to choose between two gameplay styles, called Competitive and Authentic. Paul Parsons, FC 26's lead gameplay producer, explained the thinking behind that radical move: 'We've got two different, really core, audiences in our game. We've got the competitive player, who wants a high-paced, uptempo, head-to-head experience, and we've got the offline career player who's looking for something that's slower, more tactical and with scorelines that are lower, in line with what you see in a real-world game. 'In the past, we've found ourselves disappointing one of those two audiences, but we're not willing to do that in FC 26. This year, we've come up with two completely different tunings for the game.' So, the Competitive style will breed ultra-fast, end-to-end gameplay that may not bear a huge amount of resemblance to the real-life game, and is aimed at those whose FC gameplay revolves around the FC Ultimate Team (FUT) and Clubs elements of the game. According to Parsons, the priority of the Competitive preset was to improve responsiveness and foreground user skill, and one key way in which EA does that is by dialling down the game's fatigue system. EA has also added sliders that will enable players to fine-tune both experiences, and one key difference between the two will be that in Competitive mode players will have to control defenders manually, whereas in Authentic the game will take more control over their positioning. You'll be able to pick either system in any mode of the game, and also to save and quickly retrieve your tweaked versions of them. Adding two different gameplay-tuning presets to FC 26 is an unprecedented move. In the past, when FIFA games would slug it out with Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer, PES was renowned for taking the more measured, true-to-life approach that EA Sports is attempting with the Authentic preset, whereas FIFA fell squarely into Competitive territory. It will be fascinating to see which tuning FC 26's fanbase ultimately prefers. FC 26's Authentic mode is still unlikely to provide an experience which is anything like as measured and, some would say, ponderous as that of PES games of yore. That's because the other raft of changes EA has made to FC 26 is to rework a large number of fundamental gameplay elements, in a quest to improve player responsiveness. Those fundamentals include dribbling, where FC 26's players will make more touches while dribbling, turn more sharply, and move faster with the ball. Goalkeepers' AI has been rewritten so that their tendency to deflect the ball to incoming attackers, as seen in FC 25, has been reduced, and they generally position themselves more intelligently. Tackling and interceptions have been retuned to reduce the previous tendency for the ball to bounce back to opposition players. More Trending EA has also tweaked players' run curves, giving them more explosive acceleration and allowing them to turn more sharply. And the final fundamental that has been reworked is players' ability to shield the ball. Parsons said that the company has worked hard to make ball-shielding more consistent in the game, adding two new shielding mechanics (called Contested Boxouts and Shield Entries), a new Enforcer play style, and by upgrading the physics of shielding. Another fundamental aspect of the game that EA says it has improved is general online responsiveness, especially the area of delay between players' inputs and what happens on screen. The publisher has also highlighted a number of additions and less fundamental tweaks to pretty much all of FC 26's game modes – such as the return of low-driven shots, triggered by double-tapping the shoot button – but we'll bring you a deeper dive into those when we've had a chance to play the game. Given the sheer amount of changes and upgrades that we already know about, EA Sports FC 26 should feel radically different to its immediate predecessors. Hopefully in a good way. But it certainly looks as though EA has been making better use of the vast amount of money it used to have to pay FIFA each year, and pouring at least some of it back into the game itself. EA Sports FC 26 will launch on September 26 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
