Felipe Drugovich to fill in for Nyck De Vries at Berlin E-Prix — here's why he's a suitable choice
Image credit: Formula E Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich is all set to make his Formula E debut at the upcoming Berlin E-Prix. He will fill in Nyck De Vries' shoes at Mahindra Racing in Rounds 12 and 13 and will have Edoardo Mortara as his teammate at the Berlin race. De Vries is unavailable for the race as he will be participating in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the time. Felipe Drugovich has several wins to his credit Felipe Drugovich, 25, has already proved his talent by winning the Euroformula Open and the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The Brazilian also serves as a reserve driver for Aston Martin in Formula 1. Drugovich may not have raced in an electric car yet, but he is not new to the Berlin circuit or the GEN3 Evo car. He has participated in the Berlin Rookie Test twice and topped the timesheets in 2023, which makes him familiar with the Tempelhof Airport circuit. He also appeared in a test in Spain to prove his ability to drive the Mahindra M11Electro ahead of his Formula E debut. Talking about his upcoming Formula E debut, Drugovich said, "I'm very happy to confirm I will be making my Formula E debut with Mahindra Racing in Berlin. Formula E is a championship I've been around for a while now; having tested on several occasions, I'm excited to now get the opportunity to race. Mahindra Racing is a fantastic team, one of the championship's standout names, and it's clear from their recent results that the new car is a significant step forward. I'm looking forward to working closely with them to prepare for Berlin, and I'm sure we can have a good weekend together." Mahindra Racing Team Principal Frederic Bertrand also added, 'His achievements speak for themselves, and he's been very impressive when he's tested a Formula E car in the past. The benefit of having this confirmed so far in advance is that we have had plenty of time to get him fully integrated with the team, to prepare him properly for the race weekend, and give him the best opportunity to go out and showcase what he can do. On the other hand, Nyck De Vries was handed a 10-second time penalty for hitting Andretti's Jake Dennis, who was racing from pole position and was among the leading drivers in the Jakarta final. Alex Dunne regains Formula 2 Championship lead with two great performances in Spain
Offaly racer Alex Dunne has regained the lead of the FIA Formula 2 Championship with two great performances in Spain over the weekend. The Clonbullogue driver was outstanding in Saturday's Sprint Race where he came from 19th on the grid to claim second. It quickly erased last week's disappointing outing in Monaco, where the 19-year-old McLaren development driver was blamed for first corner collision that later resulted in a ten-place grid penalty for the sprint race in Spain. Beginning the Barcelona race from P19, he made up five places on the opening lap and later enjoyed a slice of fortune when the safety car was deployed. Dunne and Dutch driver Richard Verschoor pitted for soft tyres and on the re-start they carved their way through the pack. With the tyre advantage, Verschoor took the chequered flag, a mere 0.3 seconds ahead of Dunne, who moved back into the championship lead - four-points clear of British driver Luke Browning. In Sunday's feature race, Rodin Motorsport driver Dunne started from P8 and eventually finished fifth as Briton Arvid Lindblad converted his pole position into a maiden Formula 2 feature race victory - and a home win for his Spanish team Campos Racing. Dunne annexed a bonus point for registering the fastest lap of the race, his next outing is at the Austrian GP at the end of the month. In championship terms, he's three points ahead of Verschoor with Lindblad, five points further behind in third. Dunne revealed that he was subjected to a barrage of online abuse following the Monaco incident, that forced him to delete all of social media content from his phone.

True story emerges behind Oliver Oakes' shock Alpine exit
When Alpine's team principal Oliver Oakes suddenly quit — just a day after the Renault-owned Formula One team dumped Australian driver Jack Doohan — followers of the sport immediately made the link. Oakes had been a key supporter of Doohan and naturally fans and journalists concluded this was the fallout from the decision to replace Doohan with Argentina's Franco Colapinto. But another more wild story involving Oakes was emerging behind the scenes. Days before he handed in his resignation, Oakes' brother, William, had been arrested by police while carrying 'a large amount of cash'. The 31-year-old was detained near motor-racing team Hitech's base at Silverstone. Hitech is a British team that competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 Championship, GB3 Championship, and the F4 British Championship. Oliver Oakes led that team before moving into F1, but Oliver and William are both listed as directors of Hitech Global Holdings. 'William Oakes, 31, of Rugby was charged with transferring criminal property on Friday, May 2 after he was stopped in the Silverstone Park area in Northamptonshire on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in possession of a large amount of cash,' local police said. 'He appeared before Northampton Magistrates' Court on Saturday, May 3, and remanded in custody.' The Alpine team had done its best to shut down the whispers on the Doohan fallout. 'A lot has been said in the past 24 hours, incorrectly associating the decision of Oli resigning to an alleged disagreement, or that we shared different views. This is completely false and far from the truth,' executive advisor and interim team boss Flavio Briatore said in a statement. 'Me and Oli have a very good relationship and had long-term ambitions to drive this team forward together.'

TDT | Manama Formula 1's star drivers and officials have begun arriving in the Kingdom ahead of this weekend's Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). Following an exciting race in Japan last Sunday, the F1 community had no time to rest as they made the long trip from the Far East to Bahrain ahead of the upcoming Sakhir spectacle, taking place Friday to Sunday at 'The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East'. zxdf A number of top drivers were seen touching down with team members today along with F1 and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) officials at Bahrain International Airport. Among them were two-time former world champion Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon of Williams, Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull Racing, Esteban Ocon of Haas, and Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls, along with their team principal Laurent Mekies. They were received by members of BIC's Meet and Greet Team, who assisted them in their arrival formalities and with their transportation arrangements to their respective residences for the week.
