Brighton sign Belgium defender De Cuyper
July 5 (Reuters) - Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Belgium defender Maxim De Cuyper on a five-year contract from Club Brugge, the Premier League club said on Saturday. De Cuyper, 24, helped Brugge win the Belgian Pro League in 2023-24, and the Belgian Cup last season. He made his Belgium debut in June 2024, and has earned 10 international caps, scoring three goals. "He has a great reputation for creativity and has shown his ability across different positions, although we primarily see him challenging for a left-back spot with us," Brighton coach Fabian Huerzeler said in a statement. Brighton begin their league campaign at home to Fulham on August 16.

Chelsea sign Brazilian Pedro from Brighton
Chelsea have signed forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion, both Premier League clubs said on Wednesday. Financial details were not disclosed, but British media reported that the deal was worth 60 million pounds ($81.54 million). "Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history," the Brazilian, who has signed an eight-year contract, said in a statement. "They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win." The 23-year-old joined Brighton from Watford in 2023 and has scored 30 goals and provided 10 assists in 70 appearances for the south-coast club. He has also made three appearances for Brazil's senior team. Brighton head coach Fabian Huerzeler said it was an exciting move for Pedro. "It gives him the opportunity to play Champions League football this coming season, and he will of course be keen to cement his position in the Brazil team ahead of the World Cup next summer," Huerzeler said in a statement. Pedro is the fourth senior player to move from Brighton to Chelsea since 2022, following record signing Moises Caicedo, defender Marc Cucurella and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Chelsea added that Pedro had joined their Club World Cup squad in the United States, where he could be in line to make his debut in Friday's quarter-final against Palmeiras in Philadelphia. Milner extends Brighton contract with Premier League appearances record in sight
James Milner has agreed a one-year contract extension with Brighton & Hove Albion, the south-coast club said on Friday, as the 39-year-old eyes the all-time record for appearances in the Premier League. Milner, who made his Premier League bow as a 16-year-old for Leeds United in 2002, was restricted to just four league appearances in the 2024-25 campaign due to an injury in August, taking his overall tally to 638 Premier League games. But Milner, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in January, now has the chance to overhaul Gareth Barry's record of 653 Premier League games. "I'm really pleased we will have James with us again this season," head coach Fabian Huerzeler said in a statement. "Last season he wasn't able to help the team on the pitch as much as he would have liked, but around the squad his experience is invaluable, especially for the younger players. "He's a great guy to have in our environment, who is always there for me and the team. I'm looking forward to working with him again."

Brighton leave out joint top-scorer Pedro from Spurs trip over training incident
LONDON: Brighton & Hove Albion will be without their joint top-scorer Joao Pedro when they visit Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with manager Fabian Huerzeler saying the Brazil striker has been left out due to a 'small issue in training.' For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport Pedro, who equals Danny Welbeck with 10 league goals this season, did not play in Monday's 3-2 win over champions Liverpool, with a report by The Athletic later attributing the 23-year-old's absence to an altercation he had with a teammate during training. 'With Joao we had a small issue in training, a type which isn't uncommon from time to time in all football clubs. We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed,' Huerzeler told reporters on Friday. 'Joao is an incredible football player. He is a match winner for us. That's why we invested in him. But there are principles, there are values... they are non-negotiable. 'Joao is still a young player, and (there's) still a lot of potential that he will grow. I'm sure he'll learn from this and come back stronger next season.' Pedro last played for Brighton on April 19, when he was sent off for flicking his hand into Brentford defender Nathan Collins' face during a 4-2 loss, an act which got him a three-match suspension for violent conduct. With ninth-placed Brentford three points below Brighton, a draw at Spurs will ensure Huerzeler's men finish eighth, which could earn them a place in next season's UEFA Conference League provided some other results go their way.
