I skipped Fallout 76 at launch — here's why I finally gave it a shot in 2025 (and you should too)
I love Fallout. Exploring a vast, post-apocalyptic wasteland filled with horrible enemies has always brought a smile to my face. I'm also prone to getting addicted to online looter shooter games like Destiny 2 and I even got sucked into The First Descendent. So when Fallout 76 came out, it should have been the game for me. But based on the negativity from Fallout fans when it launched, I passed. Now, it's 2025, and the game has been chugging along since 2018. It's had hours and hours of content added to it, and it's become closer to the Fallout experience I always hoped it could be. It doesn't have as much personality as the numbered Fallout games (and New Vegas), but it has one key factor that keeps me coming back: it's incredibly fun. Is 2025 finally the perfect time to lose yourself in the Appalachian wasteland? I think it just might be, and here's why. For me, one of the biggest reasons to jump back into Fallout 76 is the value. Because the game is a few years old, you can get it for cheap most of the time. Even at full price, the game is $39 on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. It's on Game Pass and can often be picked up on sale, either from the first-party platform store or from retailers like Amazon. I've been primarily playing through Game Pass, as I have an active subscription. The ridiculous number of quests and vast wilderness available to explore make it feel like a game that should cost a lot more. I've played more than 40 hours of the game in a few weeks, and it feels like there are a million more quests for me to do and powerful items to find. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. And then there's the building mechanics... Fallout 76 offers a lot of content for the price. You can spend hundreds of hours exploring the wastelands if you like the game, so you'll certainly get your money's available on: Xbox and PlayStation I was a little worried that Fallout 76 might not be fun without a group of friends to play with. My normal group of looter shooter friends has dispersed between various games, with a few still hanging onto Destiny 2. Getting them to try Fallout 76 was a no-go, so it was just me rolling solo (and playing with randoms). Fortunately, after grinding my way past level 50, I can say that I'm having a blast without friends. Friends or not, the core loop of shooting enemies, looting their corpses and leveling up your character is fun and addictive, which is what you want to see from a game like Fallout 76. Whether you play a V.A.T.S. character or one who sprays all over the place, there's a lot of fun to be had in Bethesda's semi-MMO version of Fallout. While the Bethesda game may not have the official Steam Deck badge, in my experience, the game works just fine. And best of all, you don't need to do anything crazy with the settings to get it working. All I did was install the game and launch it. No startup tweaks and no crazy settings to change. Just run it and go. It's not perfect — the frame rate is lower than a traditional gaming PC or console, but the fact that I can play my current looter-shooter addiction while my family does other stuff with the TV is amazing. Now, if only there were a way to transfer characters between platforms (there isn't and probably never will be). Bethesda offers a quality of life (QOL) subscription for Fallout 76 that provides things like scrap and ammo storage, preventing you from having to deal with the headache of encumbrance as much. It costs $99.99 per year or $12.99 per month. I signed up for a month, and it's great to have if you're playing a ton of the game. However, I played all the way to level 50 without it, and it was fine. Will I keep my subscription after the first month? Probably, because I'm incredibly addicted to the game and I like the QOL changes. But I could also live without it, and I think you can, too. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm late to the Fallout 76 party. Players around the world have already known how good the game was for some time, and I'm just walking in like a beginner trying to tell people the game is good. Are there bugs? Sure. Does it crash occasionally? Of course, it's a Bethesda game. Do any of those things stop me from loving the game and wanting to finish this article to play more of it? Not even close.

Fortnite's Tim Sweeney Says 10 People Can Write ‘Breath Of Wild' With AI Soon
Breath of the Wild Nintendo Many gamers recently celebrated alongside Tim Sweeney as he and Epic claimed victory over Apple in a series of significant rulings meant to reduce the tech giant's ability to universally scoop up 30% of revenue from releases on its platform. But now? Sweeney is running in a new direction, full-steam toward the integration of AI into video games at a creative level, running afoul of many fans and developers alike. Fortnite has recently run an experiment with a (licensed) AI Darth Vader that responds in real-time to player voice chat. That has led to thousands of funny clips and huge player engagement, enough to be considered a big success. So Epic is barreling forward with more AI characters and other elements to come. Darth Vader Loserfruit Sweeney is a big driver of this, and his views on AI in game development are some of the most extreme in the industry in terms of embracing the technology, as he recently demonstrated when speaking to IGN at Epic's State of Unreal 2025 event. He talked about how AI was just another significant advance in technology, the type that gaming had embraced for years from 3D gaming to hardware and engines supporting hundreds of players for games like Fortnite. He says AI can produce branching dialogue that writers could never envision, but his most controversial comment would be the following: The idea that an entire team of Nintendo developers working for years to make GOTY winner Breath of the Wild could be replaced by a tiny team using AI sounds ridiculous on its face. Sweeney seems to be focused mainly on writing, but he doesn't expand on the implications of how that affects story. As in, you talk a character into switching sides in a conflict, opening up a new set of missions that were never meant to exist. How does that work? Perhaps the idea is that AI will just generate that too. Fallout 76 Bethesda Is his position actually unpopular? There seem to be four sides in this conversation: 1) Executives who see AI as the next big thing and will embrace and push it however they can, hopefully to lower costs, if nothing else. 2) Players who do not care about any of this and just want to make funny jokes with AI Darth Vader 3) Players who react to AI like touching a stove and want nothing to do with generative AI in their games, whether it's in writing, art, level-building, any of it. 4) The developers who do not want to lose their jobs as writers, artists and level-builders to AI, which they believe will make an inferior product and one based on their own stolen work. What will happen from here? This doesn't feel like the metaverse or the blockchain or VR pushes from before. AI is here and legitimately changing enormous industries and evolving at such a clip that it's impossible to say what happens from here. And you can say a lot about Sweeney, but he's often right about where things are headed. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Fallout 76 patch notes and how to start the fishing questline in the new season
The Gone Fission update for Fallout 76 is here with a new fishing questline, new Season 21 rewards, and a whole host of patch notes to check out Whether you want to spruce up your C.A.M.P with some soggy, seaweed-riddled furniture or head out to the wasteland to get some fishing challenges under your belt, you can get as wet and wild as you like in the Gone FIssion update. Fallout 76 Season 21 has washed up alongside the Gone Fission update, bringing with it the fresh fishing gameplay mechanic, a new questline, new rewards and a ton of combat and Perk tweaks, after a longer-than-usual downtime. Kick off the Casting Off questline to get a rod, and you can start catching, eating and displaying fish to your heart's content. We'll get into how to start the quest before we share the patch notes, which are long, but highlights include a fast travel cost reduction of 25%, removing the Perk requirements from crafting, and the ability to repair items to 100% if you have the correct perks. How to start the Fallout 76 Casting Off quest Fishy adventure awaits in the Mire, where a new location has appeared. Make a beeline for Fishernan's Rest to kick things off and here, you'll encounter three fresh NPCs. There's Linda-Lee, a hermit crab who belongs to The Fisherman – not his birthname, presumably – as well as Captain Raymond Clark. You'll unlock the fishing rod during the quest which you can use any place you can swim, basically. The rod won't show up in your PipBoy so you can't confuse it with junk rods. You'll find and earn upgrades for it which you can apply at the Tinkers Workbench to tweak your tackle. Caught fish can be eaten straight from your inventory or you can use a recipe to whip up something like Fish Bits (unlocked as soon as you catch a fish or trade with a player) that restores a little bit of health and hunger, or Grilled Fish, which reduces the time it takes to hook a fish for 20 minutes – and there'll be more to unlock. Fallout 76 patch notes Here's the full Fallout 76 patch notes taken from Bethesda blog. The update weighs in at 15GB ( Steam) or 32GB ( Microsoft Store) on PC, 32.6GB on Xbox, and 8.2gb on PlayStation, although my PS5 download was just under 126GB because apparently I hit the bug that makes you reinstall the entire game. It's okay, I hadn't gotten that far into Oblivion Remastered... Combat Rebalance – A Year in Update Last year we kicked off our long-term combat rebalancing project with the Skyline Valley update. We started this work wanting to make sure: combat felt interesting and engaging. most/if not all weapons felt satisfying to use. all builds and weapons should have a reasonable amount of viability. manual aim should be satisfying and effective while still allowing VATS to perform well in specialized builds. majority of players should have an opportunity to participate in group content. reduce the need for 'tag the mob' play styles. With the changes made so far, we've seen significant improvement in the variety of ranged weapons being used. There are also fewer difficulty spikes in early to mid-game locations which makes the leveling experience smoother for our newer players. Build diversity has also increased as we see people exploring the new opportunities that the Perk card changes have provided. While we've already made significant progress, the next few updates will include a few larger and more impactful changes and represent the culmination of much of the balancing work we've done. This gives us a solid new foundation for the future content we have planned. After these updates, we plan on slowing down to let things settle and evaluate how things shake out. The Submachine Gun Armor Piercing Receiver no-longer has an extra 40% armor penetration in addition to the intended 20% armor penetration. Increased durability for most weapons. Fixed an issue where the multi-shot canister and Quad legendary mods for the Broadsider would result in additional reload animations (one per Cannonball). Fixed an issue where the Black Powder Pistol/Blunderbuss, Black Powder Rifle, and The Dragon would repeat their reload animations for each .50 Caliber Ball when these weapons have the Quad legendary mod. Increased the delay after firing (between shots) for the Black Powder Pistol/Blunderbuss and Black Powder Rifle from 0.5 seconds to 1 second. Note: This only applies when using the Quad legendary mod. Increased the delay after firing (between shots) for The Dragon from 0.5 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Note: This only applies when using the Quad legendary mod. Limb Damage and Crippling Changes We are making changes to the way that enemy limbs are affected by various effects. The mods, perks, and weapons mentioned below previously had a chance to instantly cripple a target, but now they deal a percentage increase to the amount of limb damage dealt. We expect that these changes will make most enemies easier to cripple while making limb damage more consistent and predictable. It will also result in making crippling enemies like Region Bosses more difficult, requiring more focused fire. These changes will also allow us to remove cripple immunity from many creatures and leverage limb and crippling in more engaging ways moving forward. Fallout 76 maintenance schedule for today's update and when you can start
Fallout 76 maintenance is scheduled for today, with the Season 21: Gone Fission starting after the downtime is over. Here's everything you need to know. The new season of Fallout 76, named 'Gone Fission', is set to go live today, introducing a fresh fishing mechanic and more. Today we welcome Fallout 76 Season 21: Gone Fission, as we say goodbye to Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul. If you've not made the transition from a smooth skin to a ghoul just yet, we've got a guide to get you on your way. Hopefully, you've managed to complete the current season pass in time for the Fallout 76 maintenance, as those hard-earned tickets won't be carried over. There's plenty to anticipate this season, which allows us to make the most of our time in Appalachia with a new hobby. Fishing is coming to the wasteland, although you might not want to grill and serve your catches without having any RadAway at hand. The rewards for Fallout 76 Season 21 are in line with the theme, allowing you to display fish and rods, as well as furniture and items adorned with seaweed. The Cannery is also set to drop after today's Fallout 76 maintenance with the full list of available recipes shared on the game's Discord server. We've included the full list below but feel free to scroll past if you're eager to get straight into the details of when today's Fallout 76 maintenance begins and ends. Naturally, there'll be more to come as the season progresses, but that's the entire list for now. Fallout 76 maintenance schedule Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 76 maintenance will commence at 7am PDT / 10am EDT / 3pm BST, today, Tuesday June 3. This aligns with previous instances of Fallout 76 maintenance which typically occur on a Tuesday at this time. As for when the servers will be back up and running, we reckon that Fallout 76 maintenance could last roughly three hours, which is pretty standard. So the game might be back online by 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST. There was an exception with the delayed Milepost Zero downtime, which resulted in a prolonged downtime of six hours. However, nothing from the game's social accounts suggests anything similar occurring with today's Fallout 76 maintenance; at least not yet! Make sure you don't miss out on our latest high-quality videos on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, where we'll be posting our latest reviews, previews, interviews, and live streams! 3 mistakes Rockstar can't afford to make with GTA 6's launch
Image via Rockstar The hype around GTA 6 is unreal . After two trailers, a confirmed 2026 release, and fan theories flooding every corner of the internet, Rockstar is officially sitting on the most anticipated game of the decade. But with sky-high expectations comes zero room for error. Here are three major mistakes Rockstar simply can't afford to make when GTA 6 finally hits shelves. 1. Launching with Broken Gameplay or Bugs Gamers are done giving free passes to buggy launches. Just ask CD Projekt Red ( Cyberpunk 2077 ) or Bethesda ( Fallout 76 ). One game-breaking bug is all it takes for social media to turn the hype train into a meme fest. Rockstar's reputation has always leaned on polish and performance. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched strong for the most part. GTA 6 needs to match, or better yet, exceed that bar. With over a decade of development time and delays, players expect a flawless experience on Day 1. No crashes, no rubberbanding NPCs, no disappearing cars. Just pure, immersive chaos, like it's meant to be. Why GTA 6 Can't Afford to Be Bad 2. Neglecting Single-Player Content If GTA Online made Rockstar billions, it also made players worried that story mode would take a backseat. And that's the one thing fans don't want. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Lucia and Jason's Bonnie-and-Clyde narrative has fans intrigued. But if Rockstar decides to cut corners and funnel most of its energy into the online grind, the backlash will be loud. Really loud. Players want a cinematic, choice-driven, emotionally punchy campaign, not a half-baked tutorial for Online. Rockstar needs to deliver an unforgettable story mode, or risk alienating a huge chunk of their core fanbase. 3. Forgetting Why Vice City Matters Vice City isn't just a setting. It's a vibe. A whole mood. One drenched in neon, music, palm trees, and attitude. But nostalgia alone won't carry GTA 6 . If Rockstar focuses too much on realism and forgets the signature satirical tone, wild side missions, and bizarre characters that made Vice City legendary, it'll feel hollow. The world of GTA 6 needs personality. It needs chaos. It needs heart. A beautiful map is great. But what players really want is to feel something every time they boot up the game. GTA 6 isn't just another game, it's a cultural moment in the making. The trailers have set the tone, and now Rockstar has to deliver . Messing up any of the above could tarnish not just a launch, but a legacy. Here's hoping Rockstar knows what's at stake and nails every last pixel.
