Ethiopia arrests 82 suspected members of Islamic State group
NAIROBI: More than 80 suspected members of the Islamic State group have been arrested across Ethiopia, state media said, claiming they intended to carry out a 'terror mission'. The 82 individuals were trained in neighbouring Somali Puntland region, according to state outlet Fana Media Corporation, which cited a statement from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS). Ethiopia shares a long border with Somalia, which for months has been experiencing a resurgence of attacks by the Islamist Al-Shabaab group. Fana said late Tuesday the suspected Islamic State group members were 'identified and arrested', but did not give any further details. The suspects 'had been recruited for a terror mission', Fana said, noting the arrests took place in several regions across the country, including capital Addis Ababa. Somalia and Ethiopia have had tense relations for months after Addis Ababa announced an agreement with the breakaway Somaliland region last year, angering Mogadishu and raising fears of regional destabilisation. Relations between Somalia and Ethiopia have since normalised. Ethiopia is part of the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) combating the Al-Shabaab group in Somalia. The AUSSOM mission faces funding difficulties, even as fears of the groups resurgence are stoked by attacks in the Horn of Africa nation. – AFP

Ethiopia has arrested dozens of suspected Islamic State militants, who it claimed have been trained and deployed to carry out operations across the country, the state-affiliated Fana broadcaster reported. The 82 suspects were part of Islamic State's (IS) Somalia affiliate, which operates in the semi-autonomous Puntland region, according to a statement by the National Intelligence Security Services (NISS) which was shared with Fana. The Islamic State faction in Somalia has become an increasingly important part of its parent organisation's worldwide network in recent years. "NISS has been closely monitoring the group's cross-border infiltration strategies and its efforts to establish sleeper cells in Ethiopia," Fana reported late on Tuesday. With an estimated 700 to 1,500 fighters, Islamic State's Somalia wing has grown in recent years thanks to an influx of foreign fighters and increasing revenues. But it is still much smaller than al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militant group, which controls large parts of southern and central Somalia. The US military has carried out periodic air strikes against the group for years and recently intensified the strikes since President Donald Trump took office. Puntland government forces have captured large portions of territory from IS since announcing a major offensive against them in December.

BLACKPINK is slated for their first full-group performance of 2025 and also their first comeback in about three years. The quartet will begin their DEADLINE world tour tomorrow, on June 5, and fans can't wait to see them live. However, on D-2, some Korean resident BLINKs heard their stage practice session from outside Goyang Stadium and shared the alleged setlist with others, leading to mixed reactions by fans. BLACKPINK's probable setlist for DEADLINE World Tour The fans who heard BLACKPINK practice for the DEADLINE concerts on June 3, recorded parts of the session and shared the clips on social media. In the video, snippets from As If It's Your Last and FOREVER YOUNG were heard. The original poster also shared that they also heard the girl group members rehearsing DDU-DU DDU-DU, How You Like That and probably PLAYING WITH FIRE as well. BLINKs who came across the post, mostly criticised the song choices. They were understanding of the fact that the K-pop stars did not release any new album so they had to perform the songs they did in earlier shows, however, as per them, the least they could do is create a "different setlist" from their existing tracks. "at least they should perform some of the songs they never did at the last tour like ice cream, love to hate me, the happiest girl, ready for love etc," they stated. However, a few patient BLINKs felt that "Forever young and aiiyl were always going to be" in the setlist, probably because they are one of the classic BLACKPINK songs. They are hopeful that the girls might debut some of their unperformed songs along besides performing the popular tracks. Most of them felt that the girl group's discography was really short so chances of an innovative setlist was almost impossible. According to them, "the problem was going on tour without a new album" and it would have been better if they released a new album this year and headed for a tour in 2026.
