Admin assistant pleads not guilty to asking intern to shave his pubic hair

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant pleaded not guilty at the magistrates' court today to a charge of outraging the modesty of a woman by asking her to shave his pubic hair in April. Mohamad Aznee Osman, 37, was accused of committing the act on a 23-year-old intern at 1.58pm at a government office here on April 4. The administrative assistant entered his plea after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan. He faces up to five years' jail, a fine, or both upon conviction under Section 509 of the Penal Code. Clad in a black jacket and grey trousers, the father of three who was unrepresented, appeared calm as he stood near the dock during proceedings. Prosecuting officer Inspector M. Alli Nangai offered bail at RM5,000 with one surety. She also requested the court to fix a date for document submission and the appointment of counsel. However, a National Legal Aid Foundation representative appealed for a lower bail amount. "The accused earns RM2,000 a month and is the sole breadwinner of his family. "His wife is unemployed, and they have three children, one of whom is disabled. "The bail should be reasonable and not punitive." Farah Nabihah set bail at RM2,500 with one surety. "I want to remind the accused not to harass any witnesses in this case, especially the victim. "If there are complaints, bail will be revoked," she said.

Foreigner fined RM100 for trying to film woman in LRT toilet

KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner was fined RM100 by the magistrate's court for attempting to record a woman inside a toilet at the Pudu LRT station earlier this month. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan imposed the maximum fine on Nur Farahan Nur Arfam, 20, a Myanmar who holds a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card, after he pleaded guilty to the offence. The court ordered that he serve five days in prison if he fails to pay the fine. Nur Farahan was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour, which carries a maximum fine of RM100 upon conviction. The incident took place at 5.30pm on June 3 in the women's toilet. According to the facts of the case, the victim became suspicious when she heard someone enter the adjacent cubicle, shut the door, but then remained silent. She lodged a report, which led to Nur Farahan's arrest by two auxiliary policemen stationed at the LRT. He was remanded the following day. Deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa urged the court to impose the maximum fine to deter similar incidents in future. In mitigation, Nur Farahan's counsel, Mohd Ariffin, appealed for leniency, saying that his client was currently undergoing an internship at a college. "He cooperated with the police, and his early guilty plea saved the court time and resources. He is a first-time offender, and we request that the court consider imposing only a minimal fine," he said.

Man fined RM6,000 for threatening DBKL officer over balloon vendor incident

KUALA LUMPUR: A father of five has been fined RM6,000, in default five months' jail, by the Magistrates' Court here after pleading guilty to threatening a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officer over the balloon vendor incident in March 2025. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan, while meting out the sentence on clothing trader Mustafa Sulaiman, 57, said public interest must prevail, adding that the accused's remarks were akin to "pouring fuel on fire". "The court hopes this sentence will serve as a lesson to the accused. For the first charge, he is fined RM2,000 or two months' jail in default; for the second, RM4,000 or three months in default," she said on Monday (May 19). Mustafa was charged with making a statement with the intent to incite others to commit an offence against DBKL officer Mohammad Shahli Zaini Mohd Zulkepli, 32. The charge under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code carries a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. He was also charged with criminal intimidation for sending a WhatsApp message threatening to cause death or injury to Mohammad Shahli, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, or a fine, or both. Both offences were committed at the DBKL enforcement tower, Jalan Yaacob Latif, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, at 10.30am on April 7. Mustafa's lawyer, Dzafir Firdaus Ahmad Zubairy, pleaded for a minimal fine, citing that his client is the sole breadwinner for his wife, five children and mother-in-law. "This is his first offence and he has no prior criminal record. The statement was made in a WhatsApp group and did not amount to incitement," he submitted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa, however, pressed for a deterrent sentence, arguing that the WhatsApp screenshot clearly contained threats, incitement and elements of intimidation directed at a DBKL enforcement officer in the course of his official duties. "The accused acted with malicious intent to undermine the reputation of the Mayor and to incite harm against DBKL enforcement personnel," she added. – Bernama
