The administrative assistant entered his plea after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan.
He faces up to five years' jail, a fine, or both upon conviction under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
Clad in a black jacket and grey trousers, the father of three who was unrepresented, appeared calm as he stood near the dock during proceedings.
Prosecuting officer Inspector M. Alli Nangai offered bail at RM5,000 with one surety.
She also requested the court to fix a date for document submission and the appointment of counsel.
However, a National Legal Aid Foundation representative appealed for a lower bail amount.
"The accused earns RM2,000 a month and is the sole breadwinner of his family.

"The bail should be reasonable and not punitive."

Ex-university admission manager fined RM35,000 for forging recruitment documents

IPOH: A former private university admission manager was fined RM35,000, in default of four months' imprisonment, by the Sessions Court here today for forging student recruitment documents six years ago. Mohd Khalid Ka'ab, 42, pleaded guilty before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi. According to the charge sheet, the accused had dishonestly used a document as genuine, namely, a Student Recruitment Agreement between Institut Teknologi Petronas Sdn Bhd (ITPSB) and Profedge Sdn Bhd, dated August 1, 2019. As an agency company appointed to provide promotional services for Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) programmes and to recruit students from the Federal Territory, Selangor, and other locations for admission into the university, the accused had reason to believe that the document was false. The offence was allegedly committed at the UTP Registrar's Office in Seri Iskandar in June 2019. The charge was framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 465, which provides for a maximum of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Prosecuting officer Shahrul Azuan Ghazali from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) handled the case, while Mohamad Izwan Abd Rahman appeared for the accused. In pleading for leniency, Izwan told the court that his client had admitted guilt at the earliest opportunity, which saved valuable court time. However, Shahrul Azuan urged the court to impose a commensurate sentence as a deterrent to prevent similar offences in the future. According to the facts of the case, the accused used a document titled Student Recruitment Agreement between ITPSB and Profedge Sdn Bhd to support an official payment made in the name of Profedge Sdn Bhd. The company was claimed to be an appointed agency tasked with providing promotional services for UTP programmes and recruiting students from other locations for admission into UTP. However, the services were never actually carried out, and the payment amounted to RM323,650. During an Executive Management Committee meeting held on July 15, 2020, by the university, it was confirmed that the agreement under the name of Profedge Sdn Bhd had never been reviewed. On Sept 15, 2021, a report was filed with the MACC and investigations revealed that the accused had forged the agreement between ITPSB and Profedge Sdn Bhd. The forged document was used to facilitate payments by UTP through six invoices issued to Profedge Sdn Bhd, despite the fact that the students listed in the invoices had not been recruited through the agency.

Everyone failed Zara: Sabah PAS

Published on: Wednesday, July 30, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 30, 2025 By: Lagatah Toyos Text Size: Ahmad described the case as a failure of the dormitory student protection and one which raised serious questions about school safety and accountability. KALABAKAN: Sabah PAS Deputy Commissioner Ahmad Dullah said the mystery surrounding the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir — who reportedly fell from the third floor of SMK Agama Tun Mustapha in Papar on July 17 but believed to have been bullied — must serve as a wake-up call. She was found unconscious in the school drain at 3am but died the following day in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He said in the Zara case an independent and transparent investigation is necessary in the wake of disturbing allegations that she was repeatedly bullied and emotionally distressed due to harassment by a senior student who went by the nickname of 'Kak Wana.' 'The night before the incident, Zara told her family, 'I'm really scared Kak Wana will get mad…',' he said in a statement. He did not reveal the source of this information. He described the case as a failure of the dormitory student protection and one which raised serious questions about school safety and accountability. 'What has our system neglected? No CCTV in the dormitory, no immediate police report, and the family claimed they were prevented from filing one because the school said they would 'handle it' themselves. 'Worse still, no early intervention despite Zara often expressing her emotional distress. This is a systemic failure — not just a disciplinary issue,' he said. Ahmad also called for an immediate end to the culture of fear among junior students toward seniors, often tolerated as 'boarding school tradition.' He said this so-called 'tradition', prevalent in many school dormitories across the country, can lead to extreme bullying if not taken seriously by school administrators. Citing a 2023 University of Malaya study, Ahmad noted that one in three boarding school students experienced physical or emotional bullying, but over 70pc never reported it for fear of retaliation or being seen as weak. As a member of the Children's Court Advisory Panel, he reminded that the law provides clear protections for children. 'Section 17 of the Child Act 2001 ensures that every child has the right to live in a safe environment, free from abuse. 'In cases of severe bullying, perpetrators can be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code (causing hurt) or Section 506 (criminal intimidation), while schools, as registered guardians, can also face civil action for negligence,' he added. PAS Sabah listed several demands to prevent similar tragedies, including a full safety audit of all boarding schools — especially Islamic religious ones. These include the comprehensive implementation of the Education Ministry's Child Protection Code, transparent reporting systems, and strict action against any student, warden, or school official found to be negligent or complicit in covering up bullying cases. 'All investigations must be thorough and independent — with no excuses to delay justice under the pretext of awaiting post-mortem results,' Ahmad said. 'This time, a young child didn't get the chance to speak. Our condolences to Zara's family. May justice be served, and the truth not be hidden,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Police bust online gambling call centre in KL, 13 arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Police raided a call centre, suspected of promoting online gambling, concealed as an office on the 23rd floor of a building on Jalan Kia Peng, yesterday. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said 13 people were arrested, including eight local men, three local women, and two Chinese nationals. The raid, which began at noon, was part of an ongoing 'Op Dadu' operation, carried out by the Kuala Lumpur Vice, Gambling and Corrupt Practices Crime Investigation Division (D7) in collaboration with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters "The call centre targeted the Indonesian market, employing workers with monthly salaries ranging from RM3,000 to RM4,000," he said, adding that 14 computer sets, two laptops, Wi-Fi modems, routers, and an attendance machine were seized during the raid. Police believe the syndicate had been operating since early April with daily working hours from 11am to 8pm.
