YouTuber Tavarish and Frank Stephenson Team Up To Build Wild McLaren P1

When the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar holy trinity descended on the earth, nobody could have foreseen that one day, a heathen with a YouTube channel would be rewriting the theology of one of them with a completely new design and much more power. But that's what the YouTuber known as Tavarish is now setting out to do with one of 375 P1 hypercars ever made, and he's doing it with the help of the man who was in charge of McLaren design back then: Frank Stephenson. Together, they want to create a one-off they're calling the P1 Evo, but it'll be fundamentally different from the hybrid hypercar on which it's based, particularly when it comes to total output. On the surface, Tavarish might seem like a villainous devil, but he's saving a damned soul that was halfway to hell already. The original P1 powertrain comprised the M838TQ 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 (the descendant of which swelled to 4.0 liters and became the M840T) and a single electric motor to produce a combined 903 horsepower. But with such an extreme exterior makeover for the P1 Evo, Tavarish intends to do some surgery beneath the skin, too, ensuring the bite matches the bark. He's fitting the bigger and more easily attainable M840T, likely salvaging it from a wrecked 720S or 750S. The turbochargers will retain their original frames, but larger wheels will help develop much more power, despite the loss of the electric motor. Tavarish is aiming for 1,400 hp, an increase of more than 50% over the original hypercar being channeled here. The idea is to make it faster than the 217-mph P1 or even the super slippery Speedtail, which has achieved 250 mph, and local resident Tavarish will prove it at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The design of the project has not yet been finalized, and it won't be the last such project by Stephenson, who says more custom car and motorcycle projects will be revealed later this year. frankstephenson Design (that's how it's stylized) has come up with several takes on a reimagined and much more hardcore P1, several of which have wings that appear as if they may hinder straight-line speed, but we don't know which will be settled upon. If all goes according to plan, the finished product will be revealed in November to the sound of angels singing in the church of tuners, the SEMA Show, before the record attempt sometime in 2026. However, things have not gone smoothly so far, and Tavarish has almost been brought to his knees many times. Related: Lanzante Is Turning A Regular McLaren Supercar Into An Extraordinary Hypercar Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez has been working on this P1 for years now, and understandably hasn't made much progress. He bought it on the cheap (if a price of a little over half a million dollars can be considered a bargain) after McLaren P1 #348 was caught in the corrosive waters carried inland by Hurricane Ian in early 2022. This is why the hybrid powertrain has finally been given up on, along with any hopes of trying to restore this flooded hypercar to its former value (between $1.35 million and $2 million). On the one hand, pious purists will preach that such a rare technological marvel being repurposed into something that will keep company with Liberty Walk Lambos is blasphemous, but on the other, Tavarish is keeping this P1 alive when others would have pulled the plug long ago, and with the original designer's blessing, no less. Moreover, he's setting real performance goals that will exceed (some of) those of the original car, so he's doing it as authentically as anyone could expect. Mad Mike certainly wasn't quite so faithful to the brand with his P1 drift demon, and McLaren didn't denounce his unholy hypercar, did it? Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

This McLaren P1 on Bring a Trailer Can Bring Your Supercar Dreams to Life at 200 MPH

The McLaren P1, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Porsche 918 Spyder are considered by enthusiasts to be the Holy Trinity of cars. They were incredible, record-topping machines upon their release, and they continue to make waves to this day. If you have seven digits' worth of disposable income and the P1 is your favorite holy car out of the three, Bring a Trailer has what you desire. This particular 2014 McLaren P1 is #47 of 375 examples ever made and was delivered new to McLaren Newport Beach in Costa Mesa, California. It was later registered in Montana, Pennsylvania, and Indiana before being sold on BaT in February 2022 with 1,800 miles. It was acquired by the selling dealer in Canada in 2025 and now has 1,900 miles, an unfortunate reminder that cars like these, that are meant to be driven, aren't often that lucky. The MonoCage carbon-fiber monocoque is finished in a stunning Azure Blue over a gray leather interior with carbon-fiber racing seats, dual-zone climate control, navigation, and a Meridian sound system. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 paired with a McLaren E-Motor mounted on the rear axle, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and an open differential for a total of 903 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The P1 can reach an electrically limited top speed of 217 miles per hour, with emphasis on the "electrically limited" part. Such power requires equally competent braking and steering components, which is why McLaren blessed the P1 with carbon-ceramic brakes and electro-hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering. All of that combined equals a featherweight 3,075 lb. Of course, we can't forget about the McLaren P1's party tricks, those being its extendable rear wing and dihedral doors. Getting into an exotic car is always a bigger event when the doors open in a snazzy manner. Despite its low miles, this P1 already had its headlights, computer system motherboard, output shaft seals, electric hybrid water pump, and a driveline damper replaced in July 2021. The suspension accumulators were recharged, and fresh brake fluid was added at the same time as the other maintenance. The Carfax report lists no accidents or other damage. As an enthusiast who strongly believes in driving your cars, no matter their value or rarity, it makes me a little sad to see people treat such cars as investments. They're not wrong by any stretch, and they will likely profit from the sale, but I never like seeing cars sit. With seven days left in the auction, this McLaren P1 is already at $1,400,000. The last time it sold on 2/3/2022, it reached $1,710,000, so it's likely that it will beat that figure this time around. Here's to hoping that the next owner racks up some miles. Sammy Hagar 'wanted to break' David Lee Roth's neck during 2002 tour

Sammy Hagar isn't holding back. The rock star, 77, aired some grievances about former VanHalen vocalist David Lee Roth in a blunt conversation with Rolling Stone published April 29. Hagar said he "wanted to break the guy's" neck sometimes during their 2002 tour together. USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Roth for comment. "Dave always wants too much," Hagar said. "He always tries to upstage. He tried to pull stuff on the Sam and Dave tour (of 2002). The nights when he was opening, when we flip-flopped ... which I would never do again. I would never bother. But look, I'm not an opening act for anybody. "On those nights, he would call in and say that the bus broke down, 10 minutes before he was supposed to go on. And because I care about my fans, I would go on. And I did that about four times." Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. Roth, 70, served as lead vocalist for Van Halen until leaving the band in 1985 and being replaced by Hagar. In 2002, the duo launched a co-headlining tour together. During a press conference at the time, Roth, who noted there was a "rivalry between us," announced that he and Hagar would "flip a coin and the winner will headline opening night and then we'll flip-flop," according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Sold! What did Sammy Hagar's custom Ferrari LaFerrari sell for at Arizona auction? Speaking to Rolling Stone, Hagar declared that Roth "did the worst when he headlined." When the magazine asked the rocker whether he would ever share the bill with Roth on tour again, he said the "circumstances would have to be right." But when Rolling Stone mentioned that Roth is coming out of retirement this summer to play some shows, the outlet reports that Hagar fell "off his chair, roaring with laughter, out of the frame of the camera." "Let's see if he makes the shows," Hagar said. In a 2002 interview with Guitar World magazine, Hagar declared that his tour with Roth "could have been a heck of a lot better" because Roth is "an unreasonable guy" and "not a fun guy." He added, "Boy, I hate to ever say I'm sorry I did something, so I can't say I'm sorry I did it. But I certainly wouldn't do it again, let's put it like that." Hagar also told AXS TV that he "never really had a lot of respect for" Roth, adding, "To me, I wasn't buying it. There was something that was fake about him. The old Van Halen fans, if I'd have said that in the beginning, would have crucified me. But he was the enemy." In 2023, Hagar extended an invitation for Roth to join him on tour in an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show." But Hagar later said on the "Eddie Trunk Podcast" that Roth "went AWOL" and "went to sleep" on the offer.

Lamborghini Huracán STO marks the end of an era

It's a turn of the epoch, a closing of a chapter, the end of an era. The Lamborghini Huracán STO is making its final showroom laps. It will soon be replaced by the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Temerario, which represents a tumultuous change for this supercar manufacturer and presages the first fully electric Lamborghini. But government laws must be met, and so the wizards at Sant'Agata are about to deliver the Huracán STO's electrified replacement. Thankfully, the Temerario will have pistons and still make an incredible noise while producing ferocious speed, just like any car wearing the raging bull it remains to be seen how its hybrid driveline makes the Temerario different from a Huracán STO, it's worthwhile to note that Lamborghini is far from the first maker of hybrid supercars. Ferrari has been producing hybrids since the 2013 Ferrari LaFerrari, and the first hybrid sports car, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, was introduced in 2020. Still, for Lamborghini, the arrival of the Temerario represents something new. 'We were never in the race to be the first ones going plug-in hybrid,' said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, during an exclusive interview at Art Basel late last year.'It's also a lot about coming when the market is ready. And when we come, we want to be the best," he said. "But at the end of the day, it's the performance. We have to be the ones that are leading because otherwise, there is no reason to do it. Just to reduce emissions and not have an additional power impact on the car and performance will be a losing game. So we always said that the battery technology must help us to perform better than before.' Winkelmann understands that not all customers will accept a hybrid, though. 'We are conquesting new customers, and therefore, I think that the plus is much, much bigger than what we might lose.' With a moniker that explains its purpose, the 2022 Lamborghini Huracán STO is an automotive middle finger to the approaching truth that the future is electric. STO stands for Super Trofeo Omologata, which connotes that the Huracán is a homologation of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo and GT3 Evo race cars. That's a fancy way of saying it's designed for regular track use as well as street use. Constructed mostly of carbon fiber, it features a rear wing that can be manually set to one of three positions and a roof-mounted air intake. Other stylistic flourishes are employed to make it easier for it to slice through the wind, with engineers doing what they could to extract every gram of excess all in the service of the Huracán STO's mid-mounted, naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10, the last 10-cylinder engine in production. Generating 631 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, power is fed to the rear wheels, which steer like the front. It's also fitted with a mechanical limited-slip differential, brake-based torque vectoring, and three drive modes: STO for street driving, Trofeo for track driving, and Pioggia for wet weather. Reaching 60 mph takes 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of 193 mph. You know what you're in for when you climb behind the Huracán STO's wheel. There's no carpet, the door panels are simple carbon fiber shells with nylon straps, the infotainment and climate control screens are tucked low on the instrument panel to avoid distractions, and the turn signals and windshield wipers are actuated by steering-wheel-mounted toggle buttons. All of these small touches ensure you don't have to take your hand off the wheel to use some of the car's essential functions. Under a little red flap is the starter button, giving the impression that you are going to fire a missile, which you are. It emits a mechanical symphony of malevolence at a volume that only skilled racing drivers can comprehend. If you put it in Trofeo mode and maintain the revs above 4,500 rpm, your ears will bleed. Of course, you won't want to play any music because the engine behind you will do it for you. Its ingratiating wildness, however, makes it one of the best automotive dance partners and offers a first-rate primal automotive thrill. Like so many supercars, its personality is all its own. Nothing fully prepares you for this raging bull. Increased velocity? Instantaneous. Changing lanes? Quick and accurate. Cornering? Track deserving. The dual-clutch gearbox? Lightning-fast. It's exceptionally entertaining, reacting to even the smallest should not mourn the passing of the Lamborghini Huracán STO. Keep in mind that Temerario means "fearless" or "daredevil," two adjectives that are embodied by the twin-turbocharged, flat-plane-crank V8 and three electric motors that generate 907 horsepower. That's nearly as much as the V12-powered Lamborghini Revuelto Hybrid and far more than that of the Huracán STO. Of course, the Temerario weighs more, but its performance nearly matches the Huracán STO's 0-60 mph run at 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 213 mph. It will undoubtedly be ferocious fun, but will the electric motors civilize a car known for its rambunctiousness? We hope not. For the Temerario is a Lamborghini after all. And it still possesses an internal combustion engine. Love reading Autoblog?
