Sammy Hagar 'wanted to break' David Lee Roth's neck during 2002 tour
The rock star, 77, aired some grievances about former VanHalen vocalist David Lee Roth in a blunt conversation with Rolling Stone published April 29. Hagar said he "wanted to break the guy's" neck sometimes during their 2002 tour together.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Roth for comment.
"Dave always wants too much," Hagar said. "He always tries to upstage. He tried to pull stuff on the Sam and Dave tour (of 2002). The nights when he was opening, when we flip-flopped ... which I would never do again. I would never bother. But look, I'm not an opening act for anybody.
"On those nights, he would call in and say that the bus broke down, 10 minutes before he was supposed to go on. And because I care about my fans, I would go on. And I did that about four times."

Roth, 70, served as lead vocalist for Van Halen until leaving the band in 1985 and being replaced by Hagar. In 2002, the duo launched a co-headlining tour together. During a press conference at the time, Roth, who noted there was a "rivalry between us," announced that he and Hagar would "flip a coin and the winner will headline opening night and then we'll flip-flop," according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Hagar declared that Roth "did the worst when he headlined."
When the magazine asked the rocker whether he would ever share the bill with Roth on tour again, he said the "circumstances would have to be right." But when Rolling Stone mentioned that Roth is coming out of retirement this summer to play some shows, the outlet reports that Hagar fell "off his chair, roaring with laughter, out of the frame of the camera."
"Let's see if he makes the shows," Hagar said.
In a 2002 interview with Guitar World magazine, Hagar declared that his tour with Roth "could have been a heck of a lot better" because Roth is "an unreasonable guy" and "not a fun guy." He added, "Boy, I hate to ever say I'm sorry I did something, so I can't say I'm sorry I did it. But I certainly wouldn't do it again, let's put it like that."
Hagar also told AXS TV that he "never really had a lot of respect for" Roth, adding, "To me, I wasn't buying it. There was something that was fake about him. The old Van Halen fans, if I'd have said that in the beginning, would have crucified me. But he was the enemy."
In 2023, Hagar extended an invitation for Roth to join him on tour in an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show." But Hagar later said on the "Eddie Trunk Podcast" that Roth "went AWOL" and "went to sleep" on the offer.

Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry breakup: Couple to focus on co-parenting daughter Daisy
Hollywood power couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who'd been sparking speculation about their yearslong romance in recent weeks, has broken up. Representatives for Perry and Bloom, who have been engaged for six years, confirmed their separation in a statement to USA TODAY on July 3. "Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting," the statement read. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect," the statement from their representatives continued. Us Weekly was first to report. The announcement comes after previous reports and media speculation that Perry, 40, and Bloom, 48, who share 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, had ended their nine-year relationship. People and Us Weekly reported in June that the couple had allegedly ended their engagement. Perry and Bloom began dating in 2016, briefly split in 2017 and got engaged in February 2019. They welcomed daughter Daisy in 2020. Bloom raised eyebrows in late June when he attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's wedding in Italy alone. The "Lord of the Rings" alum, donning a crisp white button-down and khaki slacks, flashed a peace sign to onlookers as he left the Gritti Palace Hotel in Venice via boat. Perry had a slate of four Lifetimes Tour concerts in Adelaide, Australia, during Bezos and Sánchez's wedding weekend. After the celebrity nuptials wrapped, Bloom posted some inspirational quotes on his Instagram Story on June 30. In the first slide, Bloom re-posted a translated quote from the Buddha that read, "Each day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most." In a follow-up post, Bloom typed up a "daily encouragement by Daisaku Ikeda," a prominent Japanese religious figure and Buddhist: "The important thing is to take that first step. Bravely overcoming one small fear gives you the courage to take on the next." Contributing: KiMi Robinson, USA TODAY

David Beckham gushes over Victoria, his 'Lady Beckham,' after 26 years of marriage
After nearly three decades of marriage, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are still gushing over each other as if it were Day 1. July 4 marks 26 years of marriage for the 50-year-old former footballer and the 51-year-old fashion designer, according to multiple social media posts from the couple. "26 years today you said YES to me," David captioned an Instagram post on Friday. "Happy Anniversary and thank you for giving me our beautiful children and building the life that we have together." He shared a series of photos of the couple, and their four children − Brooklyn Beckham, Romeo James Beckham, Cruz Beckham and Harper Seven Beckham − throughout the years. The beloved couple, who wed on July 4, 1999, are marking their latest marriage milestone just one week after David was hospitalized after undergoing surgery for a soccer-related wrist injury dating back to 2003. "I love you Lady Beckham," he concluded his caption, tagging not only his wife, Victoria, but his children too. "I love you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️," Victoria commented under the photo carousel. On her own Instagram account, Victoria penned a sweet tribute to her husband. "Another year, another chapter in our love story," she wrote, along with a photo of the two kissing poolside. "I'm so proud of the beautiful family and life we've built together," she continued. "You and our four incredible children complete me. I love you so much @davidbeckham xx Here's to 26 years!! xx." In a September 2024 interview with USA TODAY, David spoke about what makes him and Victoria the "proudest": his four children. Beckham grew up in the East End of London in what he describes as a "working class background: parents that work very hard, two sisters that also work very hard." He and Victoria, despite the circumstances surrounding their fame, tried to pass that forward to their children. "They could be different than they are, but we are very lucky," Beckham said of his kids Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. "They're kind, they're humble, they're hardworking and they're just good human beings. That's the biggest thing that we are proud of."

Spoilers! 'Jurassic World Rebirth' originally killed off this character
Spoiler alert! We're discussing the ending of "Jurassic World Rebirth" (in theaters now). If you haven't seen the film yet and don't want to be spoiled, stop reading now. In "Jurassic World Rebirth," survival is a long shot, but Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) still manages to pull it off. The latest "Jurassic" film culminates in what appears to be a heroic sacrifice by Ali's character. Duncan draws the horrifying mutant Distortus rex away from Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and the shipwrecked Delgado family so they can all escape on a boat. It seems like Duncan is about to be eaten off screen, only for the final moments to reveal he made it out. He sends up a flare to signal for the group to wait up for him, then joins Zora and Henry as they leave the island together. But the movie didn't always have such a happy outcome, as director Gareth Edwards tells USA TODAY that Duncan was originally meant to die at the end. "My first gut feeling was to kill him, and that's what I tried to do," Edwards says, noting that Ali felt the same way. According to screenwriter David Koepp, there were also versions of the script where Duncan died earlier. Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox During production, though, Edwards says the studio talked him into sparing Duncan. "The director's cut had him dying, and I played it to the studio, and they said, 'Is there any version where we could just see him living?' " While initially reluctant, Edwards cut together a new version and ended up warming to it. "Because it's written and filmed for him to die, all the little tropes and subconscious things you would do to (set that up) are happening in the movie," he says. "So then, weirdly, I think it's a surprise when he lives, because we've played all the cards you play when someone's about to have their last moment." He says he was moved to watch the film with a crowd and hear the audience cheer when Duncan's flare goes up, revealing that he's alive. First look at 'Jurassic World Rebirth': See new cast Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey "It was one of those occasions where sometimes the studio knows what they're on about," Edwards says. Koepp was also on board with the change, noting that as the movie evolved, "Duncan became a bigger part and a more interesting character, and we have a fantastic actor (playing him), so killing him 90 seconds before the end of the movie would not have made a lot of sense." How does 'Jurassic World Rebirth' end? After Duncan joins up with Zora and Henry, the film closes with a scene of the trio leaving the island. Now that they have the dinosaur DNA necessary to create a drug that could cure heart disease, Zora decides they will give the entire world access to the new medicine, rather than handing it over to a pharmaceutical company to profit from. But there's a lingering threat still out there. While the three previous "Jurassic" movies introduced a new dinosaur villain that is then killed at the end, in "Rebirth," the Distortus rex remains alive and kicking when the credits roll. Edwards says he second-guessed this while editing the film and started wondering if it would be better for the Tyrannosaurus rex to reappear and fight the D. rex. "I thought, 'Oh, my God, is this something we should be doing?' " he recalls. "It hadn't occurred to me before." While he was contemplating creating a new ending where the T. rex returned, Edwards polled everyone working on the film to see what they thought. It was the movie's visual effects supervisor who talked him out of it by telling Edwards, "That's what happens in all the movies, Gareth! The T. rex turns up and saves the day, and everyone's expecting that. I was so pleased when you didn't do that." Edwards notes that leaving the Distortus rex alive isn't meant to set up its return in a possible sequel. But "it's hard to kill that thing unless it was another animal that did it," which would lead to a similar ending as other "Jurassic" movies. "There's that phrase 'ex machina,' where God comes and saves everyone," he says. "In 'Jurassic,' there's something I call 'rex machina,' where a T. rex comes and saves everyone. I felt like, maybe we don't do that. Maybe that's one of our differences." What's the future of 'Jurassic World' after 'Rebirth'? Given that Zora, Henry and Duncan all live to fight another day at the end of "Rebirth," should fans expect them to reunite in future "Jurassic" movies? Nothing is set in stone, but "it's hard to imagine them not being in the next film," Edwards says. While no discussions about a sequel have taken place, the director also teases that he has a specific concept in mind for where the franchise could go after "Rebirth," which he doesn't want to reveal in case he has an opportunity to make it happen. "As a fan, there's a type of movie I've just been wishing for with each incarnation," he says. "I have a feeling what I would love to see next."
