Aamir Khan's decision to not release Sitaare Zameen Par on OTT platforms just eight weeks after it hit the theatre has garnered praise from Prosenjit Chatterjee. (Also Read | Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 1) Prosenjit Chatterjee talked about Aamir Khan and Sitaare Zameen Par. Talking about Aamir's different approach, Prosenjit said, "He can take the risk. He has been serving the industry for many years, and he understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences." Prosenjit, however, thinks that this move of Aamir won't bring about any change. "To save the theatrical business and cinema, he (Aamir Khan) is a person who can think this way or take this kind of risk. Nothing will change, a film will come on OTT and then on satellite television. That's how it works, that's how we reach our Indian audiences. But let's see how this goes (Sitaare Zameen Par's only-cinema model), and I hope it works," added Prosenjit. What Aamir had said about Sitaare Zameen Par's release Recently, Aamir told India Today about exclusively releasing the film in theatres. 'I am a loyalist of cinema, and I believe in it. Yes, it's a big risk, and there's a lot [of money] involved. If I don't get that chunk of my pre-sales, and the film doesn't work, it could lead to a major loss. I did receive offers, but I turned them down because I want audiences to go to theatres and watch my film. I believe in cinema, and I believe in my audience," he added. As per trade analyst Komal Nahta, Aamir has turned down an offer of ₹ 120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the digital rights of the film. Komal, writing for Film Information, said that Aamir has "decided to try and change the game" for films releasing in theatres. Komal said that Aamir wants people to experience the release of a film in theatres. About Sitaare Zameen Par A spiritual sequel to the 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, released in theatres on Friday. Aamir Khan rejects Rs 120 crore OTT deal for Sitaare Zameen Par; stands firm on 9 am FDFS, fair ticket rates: ‘No blockbuster pricing'
Despite not being a big-ticket, action-oriented star vehicle typical of this era, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par is generating massive hype. Helmed by RS Prasanna, known for the Tamil romantic comedy Kalyana Samayal Saadham (2013) and its Hindi remake Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), the sports comedy-drama is billed as a spiritual successor to Aamir's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par (2007). Interestingly, social media is abuzz with expectations that the film will offer a breath of fresh air amidst the current flood of mindless actioners. With the movie's release just around the corner, Aamir Khan, who also serves as the film's co-producer, has made some bold decisions regarding its theatrical and OTT premieres, including its first-day-first-show (FDFS) timing. In a significant and gutsy move, the actor-producer has reportedly turned down a massive offer from a major OTT platform, choosing instead to give the movie a full theatrical run without rushing a digital premiere. Also Read | Boman Irani recalls Sunil Dutt's precious life lesson that he follows till date: 'On Munna Bhai sets, he asked why would I eat alone' According to trade analyst Komal Nahta, Amazon Prime Video offered Rs 120 crore for the digital rights to the film, but Aamir declined the deal. While many might assume this was a tactic to attract higher offers from other platforms, Nahta clarified in Film Information that Aamir made the decision 'to try and change the game'. In recent times, Aamir has frequently voiced concerns about the standard eight-week window between theatrical and digital releases, calling it a 'faulty business model'. With this, the Bollywood biggie has once again proven that he isn't one of those 'all talk and no action' stars and that he has decided to lead by example and be the change he wishes to witness around him. Nahta pointed out that if Aamir's strategy works and the film's absence of an OTT release drives up box office revenue, it could be a revelation for the industry. On the flip side, if the strategy backfires, Sitaare Zameen Par could end up losing Rs 120 crore in easy revenue. Meanwhile, ahead of the film's release on June 20 (Friday), Aamir has also issued a series of instructions to exhibitors regarding show timings. According to Bollywood Hungama, the makers have requested not to begin shows before 9 am. They've also asked theatres to maintain popular weekend pricing, rather than inflating ticket rates as per the blockbuster pricing technique. While single-screen theatres wishing to screen Sitaare Zameen Par have been instructed to dedicate all shows exclusively to the film, without alternating titles, cinema halls with two screens have been asked to allot a total of eight shows per day for the sports comedy drama. 'Multiplexes with 3, 4, 5 and 6 screens need to play 11, 14, 16 and 19 shows a day, respectively. For 7-screen multiplexes, 22 shows are a must while for 8-screen plexes, 25 shows are mandatory in a day. There should be 28 shows in 9-screen cinemas and for multiplexes with 10 screens and more, the requirement is 31 shows,' Bollywood Hungama quoted a source as saying.

Aamir Khan turns down ₹120 crore offer from this OTT platform for digital rights of Sitaare Zameen Par: Report
Ahead of the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, actor Aamir Khan made it clear that he will not make the film available on OTT platforms just eight weeks after it hits the theatre. Now, as per trade analyst Komal Nahta, Aamir has turned down an offer of ₹120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the digital rights of the film. Writing for Film Information, Komal said that Aamir has "decided to try and change the game" for films releasing in theatres. (Also Read | Aamir Khan says 'no idea' if Sitaare Zameen Par will work at box office: I'm stressed only action films are working) Komal said that Aamir wants people to experience the release of a film in theatres. "...what is not known by most people is that he has turned down an offer of ₹120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the digital rights of the film. Not because he wanted more, not because he wanted Netflix to bid higher for the film and thereby engage the two OTT platforms in a bidding war so that he could be the ultimate beneficiary, not for any similar reason. He politely said 'no' because he has decided to try and change the game," he said. As per current trends, a section of the audience would watch a film on any OTT platform a few weeks after its release in theatres than spend money and watch it in cinemas. Komal added, "That is what Aamir Khan wants to change. A film is meant for the big screen — and Aamir would have it no other Amazon Prime's offer was too lucrative for anyone to turn down…If this non-availability of his film on OTT indeed increases footfalls in cinemas, it may not just revive the industry and give box-office business the much-needed boost but it could also start a trend of either producers emulating Aamir Khan's example or at least the industry as a whole revisiting the issue of when to release a film digitally." However, Komal said that if "the footfalls do not increase substantially for Sitaare Zameen Par", Aamir will face a loss of ₹120 crore. Recently, Aamir told India Today that it was Amitabh Bachchan who encouraged him to exclusively release the film in theatres. Aamir had also said, 'I am a loyalist of cinema, and I believe in it. Yes, it's a big risk, and there's a lot [of money] involved. If I don't get that chunk of my pre-sales, and the film doesn't work, it could lead to a major loss. I did receive offers, but I turned them down because I want audiences to go to theatres and watch my film. I believe in cinema, and I believe in my audience." A spiritual sequel to the 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, will release in theatres on June 20. In it, Aamir will play a basketball coach training a team of players with special needs. The film also stars Genelia D'souza. It is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film introduces 10 actors--Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

Hera Pheri 3: More legal trouble for Akshay Kumar? Mystery deepens over film's rights after Paresh Rawal's exit
Hera Pheri 3 has been making headlines after the exit of Paresh Rawal. It followed several controversies and ongoing legal battles. Pinkvilla exclusively reported that he has been sued for Rs 25 crore by the film's production house and later Akshay Kumar's production house confirmed the same. Recently, there were also reports that Firoz Nadiadwala is still holding the rights to the film and he hasn't given it to Akshay. Now, reacting to the same, director Priyadarshan dismissed such claims and shared that the actor has shown him the papers. It was reported that Akshay Kumar has bought the Hera Pheri franchise's rights from Firoz Nadiawala, who produced the first two installments of the franchise. However, recent reports suggested that Firoz still holds the intellectual property rights (IPR) to the franchise and its characters. Now, in a conversation with Mid-day, Priyadarshan reacted to it and was 'disturbed' by such allegations. He dismissed reports stating Firoz Nadiadwala holds IPR rights to the Hera Pheri franchise and shared, 'Akshay bought the entire rights of the Hera Pheri franchise for Rs 10 crore from Firoz Nadiadwala, who had produced the first two (parts). This is not just for Hera Pheri 3, but the entire franchise. I know this as I have seen the paperwork for it,' he stated. The filmmaker further added that Akshay Kumar has shown him the agreement, including the intellectual property rights that the actor purchased from Nadiadwala. After seeing the papers, Priyadarshan agreed to the film. Earlier, as per a report by Komal Nahata in Film Information, no 'final agreement' was made between Akshay Kumar's company and Paresh Rawal. The source told them that nothing had been finalized, not even the script or agreement. The report added that Firoz Nadidadwala also hasn't given Akshay Kumar the derivative rights of the franchise. Meanwhile, recently Paresh Rawal's legal team opened up on the controversy and shared that he has returned the signing amount of Rs 11 lakh along with 15% interest and exited the project.
