Kyrgyz president accorded official welcome in Putrajaya
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received Zhaparov upon his arrival at 9am, with the national anthems of both countries played as a mark of respect.
Zhaparov then inspected a guard of honour mounted by three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Major Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, other Cabinet members, foreign diplomats and senior government officials.
Zhaparov then signed the guest book before proceeding to a bilateral meeting with Anwar.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the leaders are expected to explore opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, renewable and green energy, the halal industry, agricommodity, tourism, education, and capacity-building through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
Both leaders will also witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, higher education, health, trade promotion, economic cooperation, scientific and research collaboration, as well as an Exchange of Notes on youth development and training for diplomats.
A Letter of Intent on legal cooperation will also be signed.
The visit marks Zhaparov's maiden official trip to Malaysia since assuming office in January 2021, and reciprocates Anwar's official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in May last year.
In 2024, the Kyrgyz Republic was Malaysia's fourth-largest trading partner among Central Asian countries, with total bilateral trade valued at RM40 million (USD8.74 million).
Malaysia's main exports to the Kyrgyz Republic included electrical and electronic products, palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural products, machinery, equipment and parts.
Its key imports from the Kyrgyz Republic comprised chemicals and chemical products, electrical and electronic products, and processed food.
Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic established diplomatic relations on May 21, 1992, following Kyrgyzstan's independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

'Former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir remarked that a prime minister stepping down after losing public trust is a normal occurrence. 'However, we in LDP emphasise that Malaysia's 16th General Election is due by Feb 2028, it is better to let the people make their final judgment at the ballot box. 'We (LDP) criticise the Unity government's weak handling of economic and cost-of-living issues, noting that increased taxation, rising prices and stagnant wages have placed heavy burden on the people,' he said. David said Anwar had made repeated campaign promises to reduce fuel prices, review highway tolls and deliver justice in the Teoh Beng Hock case, but there has been little visible progress, leaving voters disappointed. He said since taking office, Anwar has shown 'more theatrics than tangible results.' 'The nation urgently needs structural reforms and pragmatic economic policies, rather than political shows and empty slogans,' he said. Anwar to broker ceasefire talks between Thailand and Cambodia in Putrajaya today
PUTRAJAYA, July 28 — A meeting between the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia is expected to be held here today to discuss a ceasefire between the two countries, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the negotiation will be held here at 3pm. 'They (government representatives of Thailand and Cambodia) have asked me to try and negotiate a peace settlement, so we are hosting it tomorrow at 3pm here. 'So, I'm discussing the parameters, the conditions but what is important is immediate ceasefire,' he said at a 'Majlis Ilmu Madani' here last night. Anwar said he is expected to chair the negotiation between the representatives of the two countries including the conditions submitted by both parties. Anwar said the discussion between the two leaders came about after US President Donald Trump urged them to find a solution to the crisis. Apart from that, he understands China also contacted both parties to cease the conflict. He also said that a team from Malaysia and maybe some from neighbouring countries are set to monitor the discussion to ensure it is executed well. 'So, within our means, we try our best and Alhamdulillah, we are given that confidence and respect and they are of course our close friends, our neighbours, and we work together. 'And I hope this can work. We have to work again to ensure the parameter is aligned. The Foreign Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working throughout the night to make sure everything is clear, because it's not easy, you know, when shooting and fighting are going on. 'So although it's not as bad as many other countries, we have to put a stop because I've always taken pride in the fact that Asean is still the most peaceful region in the world and fastest growing economy in the world,' he said. Earlier, it was reported that the Thai government had confirmed it would attend a regional peace consultation in Malaysia on Monday to discuss the escalating border conflict with Cambodia. No registration for RM100 cash aid, beware of scams, warns govt
Deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the ministry has received complaints about fake links and messages claiming that registration is required to receive the cash aid. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The government has urged the public to be cautious of scams and other fraud attempts over the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA). Speaking at an event in George Town, Penang, today, deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the assistance does not require any application or registration whatsoever, Bernama reported. She said the amount will be credited directly into the MyKad of all Malaysians aged 18 and above starting Aug 31. 'We have received numerous inquiries about how to register for the RM100 SARA assistance. There have also been complaints about fake links and messages claiming that registration is required to receive the aid. 'These claims are false and dangerous. Do not click on any such links, they are scams. 'I want to stress that there is no need to apply or register for the RM100 cash aid, as it will be automatically credited to the recipients' MyKad,' she said. Lim, who is the MP for Tanjung, reassured the public that there is no cause for concern as everyone aged 18 and above will receive the cash aid. 'Only if they do not receive it after Aug 31 will we take further action and inform them accordingly,' she said. On July 23, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced several major initiatives by the government, including the one-off RM100 cash aid, the postponement of toll rate hikes on 10 highways, and a drop in the price of RON95 fuel to RM1.99 per litre. Lim also said the government is open to considering the inclusion of wet goods such as chicken, meat and fish under SARA. 'We continue to listen to feedback and suggestions regarding the list of items under SARA. There have been proposals to include wet items such as fish, meat and chicken. We will consider expanding the list when the time is right,' she told reporters. She said the government expanded the SARA initiative on May 1 to include household cleaning products, such as laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid. These are in addition to the existing categories covering basic food items, medicines, school supplies, and personal hygiene products. Their inclusion increased the number of product categories from 13 to 14, covering 90,000 types of goods. This decision was based on feedback received during the implementation of SARA earlier this year, she said.
