OPEN// FM: We are finalizing ceasefire deal on Gaza including 60-day truce
CAIRO, June 30 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affaires, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt is currently working on an anticipated agreement regarding the Gaza Strip, which includes a 60-day truce, with the hope of moving to a subsequent phase. In an exclusive interview with "ON TV" satellite channel Saturday night, Abdelatty added that international parties, most notably the United States, have become increasingly aware of and convinced by the soundness of the Egyptian approach and vision, which assert that all these issues are interconnected, and that there can be no security or stability in the region without addressing the core of the conflict: the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Abdelatty continued by saying that clear messages have also been conveyed to the Israeli side: that there will be no security or stability for Israel or the region without addressing the Palestinian cause and reaching just and lasting peaceful solutions. The Foreign Minister noted that the United States understands the importance of any future agreement on Gaza including clear guarantees for the sustainability of a ceasefire. He emphasized that the ceasefire on January 19 could not have been achieved without the intervention of the new US administration, even before officially taking office, and expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump's vision in working toward a sustainable ceasefire, which should lead to a comprehensive settlement.
