Jake Dennis ends bad luck streak with Berlin podium ahead of London home race: 'It's more for morale'

Jake Dennis at Berlin E-Prix (Image credit: Instagram) Jake Dennis is steadily climbing the ladder back to form. The Andretti driver secured second place on the podium in Round 14 of the Formula E race at the Berlin E-Prix on Sunday. This marked his second podium of the season, following his third-place finish in Monaco. Dennis shared his thoughts after the race in Berlin, which also saw Nissan driver Oliver Rowland clinch the Formula E World Championship title. Jake Dennis's podium finish in Berlin Just a day earlier, Dennis had retired from Round 13 due to technical issues with his car. He had also come close to claiming his first win of the season in Jakarta last month after starting from pole position, but an unfortunate collision with Mahindra Racing's Nyck De Vries cost him the victory. Things finally aligned for him on Sunday at the Berlin E-Prix, as he capitalized on an Attack Mode overlap to secure second place. The race was won by Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy, while DS Penske's Jean-Eric Vergne finished third. Jake Dennis celebrates after Berlin E-Prix Sharing a picture of the champagne celebrations on the podium at the Tempelhof Airport Circuit, Dennis wrote on Instagram: 'P2!! Awesome race for us and perfectly executed! Great job by the whole team! A moment to say congrats to @oliverrowland1! So happy for you mate, world class all year! World champion looks good on you!' Speaking after the race, Dennis reflected on his recent struggles, having finished 17th in consecutive races leading up to Berlin. 'We had a really good race car and the strategy we took into the race was perfectly executed. I had every opportunity to win this race, and we got pretty close. I'm not too surprised to be up here — I'm just super happy for myself and for the team. We've been on a real bad luck streak recently, so to reward them with a P2 is the least I could do,' he said. Berlin E-Prix Looking ahead to his home race in London, which also serves as the Season 11 Formula E finale, Dennis said, 'I'm excited to have this little boost going into the final stretch, my home race in London. It's needed. It's more for morale. Oliver [Rowland] has already won the championship, so massive congratulations to him. I'm super happy for him, he's a good friend of mine.' With two races remaining — Rounds 15 and 16 — in London, he still has a chance to secure a win or another podium before the season concludes. Sam Bird shares thrilling skydiving throwback with Michael Schumacher ahead of Jakarta E-Prix

Image credit: Sam Bird/Instagram NEOM McLaren Formula E driver Sam Bird took a trip down memory lane on Saturday, sharing a nostalgic photo with the legendary Michael Schumacher . Currently 17th in the Formula E Drivers' Standings, Sam Bird posted on Instagram about a memorable conversation with Schumacher that unexpectedly led to a spontaneous skydiving adventure. Sam Bird and Michael Schumacher's skydiving plan "Canada F1 week always reminds me of this crazy memory. Phone going while chilling in my hotel room late on Wednesday evening, it's Michael ….. 'Sam, what are you doing tomorrow morning?' I replied, 'Well, we are going to the track, aren't we?' Michael then said, 'No, we can go in later. Meet me downstairs at 6 a.m. — we are going skydiving.' … He hangs up the phone. I'm panicking at this point, but I'm not going to say no to my hero. So off we went and did the jump. This is a very special memory that will stay with me forever. Big thanks to @nicomalley1 for sending me these pics," Sam Bird's Instagram post read on Saturday. Michael Schumacher, a legendary figure in the Formula One circuit, won a record-breaking seven Formula One World Drivers' Championship titles. He clinched the championships in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2013, Schumacher suffered a severe brain injury during a skiing accident. He was placed in an induced coma until June 2014 due to the extent of the injury. Since then, Schumacher has not made any public appearances. Earlier, Bird had also penned an emotional note to share his feelings about missing an iconic French race. He wrote that post after being forced to skip the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Bird has been a regular participant at Le Mans since 2014, but he hasn't featured in the race since joining the NEOM McLaren Formula E team in 2023. Bird had written: 'Le Mans is only a week away!!! Gutted I'm not racing this year in what is my favourite race of the calendar year. The teamwork, dedication, rivalries, the ups and downs of emotions all bubbling up over a 24-hour period. Best of luck to everyone taking part. I hope to be back slinging a car through Porsche Curves soon enough.' Sam Bird is still hoping for a better season this time. Bird will next be seen in action at the Jakarta E-Prix, scheduled to take place on June 20 and 21. He is currently in 17th position in the Formula E Drivers' Standings this year, with just 27 points and no podiums.

Monaco E-Prix Round 6: Oliver Rowland wins, Nyck de Vries second, Jake Dennis secures third spot on podium despite penalty

Image credit: Oliver Rowland/Instagram Nissan driver Oliver Rowland won Part 1 of the Monaco E-Prix on Saturday. He is already leading the Formula E Drivers' Standings this year, and the much-awaited win adds to his score. Nyck de Vries of Mahindra Racing secured the second spot on the podium. Andretti driver Jake Dennis managed to claim the third spot despite a 5-second penalty. Monaco E-Prix Round 6 highlights The race began with qualifying winner NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard on pole position, followed by good friend — Nissan's Oliver Rowland — and then Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum, who topped both free practice sessions. The race ended early for TAG Heuer Porsche driver António Félix da Costa, who crashed into the wall and retired. He remains the only Formula E driver in the last five years to have won both pole and the race in the same event — in 2021. He had finished third in the previous race in Miami. — FIAFormulaE (@FIAFormulaE) Mitch Evans of Jaguar TCS Racing, who won the last Monaco E-Prix, came to a halt during the race and struggled to get going again, losing precious time as others overtook him. Oliver Rowland was among the first to use Attack Mode and established his dominance in the race. Mahindra Racing's Nyck de Vries and TAG Heuer Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein came close to Rowland when others took the mandatory Pit Boost. Soon after, Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy moved up to challenge for second position. Where did pole winner Taylor Barnard go? He crashed into the wall and was seen reversing his vehicle to rejoin the race. Andretti driver Jake Dennis could have secured a higher podium finish, but he was hit with a 5-second penalty for overspeeding during the full-course yellow when António Félix da Costa's car was being removed from the crash site. The electric Gen3 Evo cars receive a 10 percent energy boost (3.85 kWh) via a 30-second, 600kW charge in the pit lane. However, a driver can use this advantage only once across the two races in a double-header.
