Cameroon's Choupo-Moting scores twice to rally Red Bulls past Revolution - Africa

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Emil Forsberg both had two of New York's five unanswered goals in the second half and the Red Bulls rallied to beat the New England Revolution 5-3 on Wednesday night. Leo Campana notched his fifth goal of the season five minutes into the match, scoring unassisted to give New England (6-9-7) the lead. Luca Langoni hit the left post, but the shot bounced off Red Bulls defender Omar Valencia and into the net for an own goal and a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute that carried through halftime. The Red Bulls (9-8-6) cut it to 2-1 when 22-year-old midfielder Daniel Edelman scored his first goal this season and his third in 87 career appearances — unassisted in the 56th minute. Edelman ignited the second five-goal half in Red Bulls history. Choupo-Moting scored the equalizer in the 70th minute with assists from Forsberg and 20-year midfielder Ronald Donkor. Forsberg made it 3-2 in the 72nd with an assist from 21-year-old forward Dennis Gjengaar — his first this season. Choupo-Moting — in his first season in the league — added his 13th goal in the 83rd minute on another assist from Donkor, who has three this season. Forsberg used a penalty kick to score his ninth goal of the season for a 5-2 lead in the 88th. Campana capped the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time with his sixth goal. Carlos Coronel finished with five saves for the Red Bulls. Aljaz Ivacic stopped four shots for the Revolution. New England beat the visiting Red Bulls 2-1 in March behind two goals from Carles Gil. The Red Bulls had played four of their last five matches on the road and gone 0-2-3 before extending their unbeaten streak at home to six. New England has gone 0-5-2 since the start of June. The Revolution return home to play Orlando City on Saturday. The Red Bulls will host Inter Miami on Saturday. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Emil Forsberg each scored twice for New York. Revolution defender Brayan Ceballos had to come off injured in the 66th minute and was replaced by Wyatt Omsberg. Advertisement Choupo-Moting and Forsberg each got their first of the game two minutes apart for a 3-2 lead in the 72nd minute, the go-ahead goal coming on a beautiful turn and left-footed strike from the top of the box. They followed suit a little later. Choupo-Moting made it 4-2 as he made a run into the middle of the box to receive a pass from Ronald Donkor in the 83rd minute, and Forsberg converted a penalty kick five minutes later. Advertisement It was a great start for the Revolution, who went ahead after just five minutes on a goal from Leo Campana on a quick counterattack down the left side. They tacked on a second in the 30th minute when Luca Langoni's shot from just outside the 6-yard box struck the post, but deflected off Red Bulls defender Kyle Duncan and into the net. New York had a 58-42 edge in possession and 21-13 advantage in shots. Campana added a second of the game in stoppage time, giving him four goals on the season. Filip Forsberg Praises Nashville Teammate Juuse Saros After Sweden-Finland Game

It's never dull when Sweden takes on Finland. On Tuesday at the IIHF World Championship in front of their home fans in Stockholm, the Swedes were dominant, outshooting the Finns 41-19 and controlling the game in terms of possession and zone time. 'I think this was by far our best game,' Filip Forsberg said after the game as reported by 'I don't know what the zone time was, but we probably had 60-70 percent of the time in the attacking zone. We'll take that with us.' In the end, however, Sweden had to hang on to win 2-1, thanks in large part due to the play of Finnish goaltender Juuse Saros, who is Forsberg's teammate with the Nashville Predators. Forsberg was asked if he thought, given the wide edge in play, whether his team should have scored another goal or two. 'Yes, absolutely, but they had one of the best goalies in the world on the other side,' Forsberg said about Saros. 'He was so good. He's really the only reason it was still a game after two periods. 'He was standing on his head in goal.' Filip Forsberg: 'You Can Talk [Crap] About Austria As Much As You Want, But They're Good' After a dominant 5-0 win over Slovakia in their opening game of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, the Swedes had more trouble with their second game against Austria, needing a late comeback to win 4-2. Swedish media didn't seem impressed with the team's performance in the second game, but when asked about it Filip Forsberg was full of praise for the Austrian team. The score was 2-0 after 40 minutes and the shots were 33-9. Then the Finns came with a push in the third period, which was to be expected, and scored once. 'Then it's quite tight and you never know,' said Forsberg. 'A random puck goes in and suddenly, it's a game. You have to give credit to Juuse and to Finland for fighting on. A little more payoff (on our chances) and this game would have been over a little earlier.' The Finnish goal with just under seven minutes remaining was a strange play that Forsberg was in the middle of. A quck whistle while the puck was still loose appeared to negate it, and a couple of Finnish players quickly charged towards the nearest referee to argue. However, Forsberg quickly intercepted Harri Pesonen and Eemil Erholtz, allowing the referee to escape. 'Yes, they were going to argue with the referee, so you have to protect them sometimes,' he said. 'They do a good job out there so you gotta be there and 'police' a little sometimes.' After a review, the goal was counted but it's the only one Finland got. Eeli Tolvanen's Late Surge Rescues Snake-Bitten Finns Last year, Finland barely made the IIHF World Championship quarterfinals and the team's first two games this year have not been especially reassuring to the team's fans. Playing against Austria and France, teams that Finnish team in past years might have beaten easily, the Finns have managed wins of 2-1 and 4-3 in overtime.

Galaxy extend MLS-record winless streak with 7-0 road loss to Red Bulls

Emil Forsberg had two goals and two assists, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also scored two goals and the New York Red Bulls beat the Galaxy 7-0 on Saturday night to extend the defending MLS Cup champions' winless skid. The Galaxy (0-9-3) have gone an MLS-record 12 consecutive games without a win to start the season. Their last MLS win was a 2-1 victory over the Red Bulls on Dec. 7 to claim the 2024 MLS Cup title. New York tied the club mark for goals in a game, set in 2016 against New York City FC. Forsberg joined Antony De Avila (July 13, 1997) as the only players in Red Bulls history with multiple goals and assists in an MLS game. The Galaxy played without stars Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec and coach Greg Vanney conceded little went right during the match. Choupo-Moting opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a rolling shot from the right-center of the area that slipped inside the back post into the side-net. The 36-year-old in his first MLS season put away a feed from Forsberg to make it 3-0 in the 31st minute, his first multi-goal game for New York (5-4-3). Omar Valencia played a ball ahead to Forsberg, who slipped behind the defense and beat goalkeeper John McCarthy one on one to give New York a 2-0 lead in the 16th. His free kick from 30 yards out slipped under the crossbar to make it 4-0 in the 50th minute. Cameron Harper came on in the 67th and scored his first goal of the season in the 68th, Dennis Gjengaar made it 6-0 in the 88th minute and an own goal on LA's Miki Yamane capped the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time. 'I don't know if it's an effort issue,' Vanney said. 'At times when you give up goals like that, it can be a little bit of confidence, uncertainty. I thought we were reactive maybe at times where you try to adapt and play into a different structure and your decisions become different.' Vanney went on to say the Galaxy would 'try to get back to the things we do best and get healthy and get guys going and try to build upward. Let's hope this is the rock bottom part.' Galaxy forward Christian Ramirez opened the news conference with a statement addressing the lopsided score. 'I want to apologize to the traveling supporters for today's performance,' he said. 'And just because we know they spent their hard-earned money to travel across country, and just it wasn't good enough from us top to bottom.'
