Couldn't say no to flawed scripts: Vijay Deverakonda on nepotism, industry support

Actor Vijay Deverakonda, who rose to fame with early blockbusters like 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Geetha Govindam', has faced a relatively underwhelming few years at the box office. With his ambitious upcoming film 'Kingdom' around the corner, the actor recently opened up about how he never had the luxury of saying no when dissatisfied with a an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor said, 'When you do not come from an establishment or have a support system, you don't have the space to tell the director that you're not ready to go to shoot with this script and that it needs more work.'advertisementReflecting on his observations of other actors, he added, 'I know a similar actor with similar experience, but who has the support around him. He knows from growing up that you don't have to go to shoot. Or his father might say, 'Spend another 2–3 months, I'll get you more writers.' I didn't have that space.' Speaking about his change in approach, Vijay said, 'I've recently started taking that space and speaking to my directors. Because yes, your money is important, his career is important, but my face and the reputation I've built are equally important. Now, I've decided that if we do it, we should all be happy with it. I've finally found the comfort, leverage, and sense of security to have those conversations.'Here's the teaser of 'Kingdom': Directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, 'Kingdom' is an action film presumably set against the backdrop of the refugee crisis arising from the post-Independence Sinhala-Tamil conflict. The film, which was previously postponed twice, is now scheduled for release on July film stars Bhagyashree Borse and Satyadev in key roles. Backed by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Creations, 'Kingdom' features a strong technical crew, including cinematographers Girish Gangadharan and Jomon T. John, music by Anirudh Ravichander, and editing by Naveen Nooli.- EndsMust Watch
