Morocco Arrests Arab National at Mohammed V Airport on UAE Warrant

Marrakech – Moroccan security services at Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport arrested a 42-year-old Arab national on Thursday following an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The police detained the suspect immediately upon arrival on a flight from Turkey. According to security sources, identity verification revealed he was wanted internationally at the request of Emirati judicial authorities for implementing a prison sentence issued in absentia in December 2019. The individual is implicated in a case involving breach of trust and embezzlement of funds belonging to others. He has been subjected to legal procedures related to extradition pending presentation before the competent prosecutor's office. The Arab Liaison Division of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has been tasked with notifying their counterpart in the UAE about the arrest. Security sources indicated that this arrest comes within the framework of Moroccan security services' ongoing commitment to strengthening international security cooperation, particularly in tracking and arresting individuals wanted for transnational crimes. The case reflects Morocco's active participation in global law enforcement networks. Through rigorous identity checks at key entry points, Moroccan authorities continue to enforce international arrest warrants effectively across national boundaries. On June 14, Marrakech police arrested a French-Malian national wanted by Interpol for international drug trafficking and money laundering. On May 14, Moroccan police arrested a 68-year-old Swedish citizen of Turkish origin at Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport. The suspect, who arrived on a flight from Turkey, was wanted on an international warrant for violent sexual assaults committed in 2021. On April 17, authorities apprehended three individuals of Chinese, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian nationalities. The suspects, aged between 22 and 25, were subject to international arrest warrants issued by American judicial authorities for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha to Celtic transfer hits snag as 'surprising' £2.6m man linked and old flame stays put

Brendan Rodgers is keen to ramp up his transfer business over the coming weeks Celtic have been linked with a move for Yverdon Sport midfielder Moussa Baradji - but face serious competition for his signature. The French-Malian joined the Swiss Super League club last summer and is now hot property after catching the eye with four goals and three assists in his debut season. ‌ Versatile Baradji - who operates as a central midfielder but can also play as a right winger - has attracted interest from the likes of Sunderland, Fiorentina, Parma AC, Torino FC and FC Basel. ‌ And report that Celts have also registered an interest in the 24-year-old over the summer. Baradji is out of contract in 2026 and relegated Yverdon Sport stand to make a big profit on the £215,000 they paid Serie C side Legnago Salus last year. It's claimed that the utility man would command a fee of around £2.6million, which is well within Celtic's budget. Sunderland are believed to have made contact with Baradji's representatives as the Premier League new boys attempt to steal a march. In an interview with Swiss outlet Blick back in March, Baradji's former boss Paolo Tramezzani - who is now in charge of AEL Limassol - raved: "Moussa is a very surprising player, who can play in all midfield positions, who has great stamina. He has rare qualities." Brendan Rodgers is keen on ramping up the club's transfer business having already landed Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan and academy prospect Isaac English this summer. ‌ A £1.3m deal has been struck with FC Nordsjælland for Sweden international Benjamin Nygren, while Fulham hotshot Callum Osmand is poised to be unveiled any day now. As Nicolas Kuhn closes in on a move to Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig, a new winger is top of the Parkhead club's wishlist. ‌ Sarpsborg prodigy Sondre Ørjasæter is a key target but the Double-winners would have to shell out around £11m to land the 21-year-old. Ørjasæter - who was the subject of a Celtic bid in January - recently revealed that he feels "ready to take the next step" in his career. Dutch champions PSV are also keen on the left-sided Norwegian wide man and Celts would potentially have to shatter their transfer record to land him. ‌ Belgian attacker Michel-Ange Balikwisha is also in Rodgers' thoughts, but talks over a deal for the long-term target are said to have stalled. The 24-year-old has been on the Hoops' radar since last season but the four-in-a-row champs are reluctant to meet Royal Antwerp's asking price of £5.1m due to his recent injury record. Balikwisha - who has 12 months to run on his current contract - made just 17 appearances last term. ‌ Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri offered an update today, writing on X: "Celtic FC has not forgotten Michel-Ange Balikwisha! Several internal factors on the part of the Scottish club's management have slowed down the deal, but both the Green and Whites and the player are keen to see it go through. Royal Antwerp FC is asking for €6 million to reach an agreement." Elsewhere, Carl Starfelt insists he's committed to Celta Vigo despite interest from Cesc Fabregas' Como. The former Celtic Treble-winner has become a mainstay with Vigo since joining the La Liga club two years ago. Now 30, he's been linked with a switch to Italy but addressing his future in an interview with SVT Sport, the Swede said: "I feel very comfortable. Especially this year, everything has felt great. I want to stay and be there when the team plays in Europe. I have communicated to the club that this is my intention." At trial over banner targeting Aya Nakamura, far-right activists stand by their actions

On March 8, 2024, as rumors swirled that Aya Nakamura would headline the Olympic Games opening ceremony, around 15 young far-right activists, members of the group Les Natifs, gathered on Île Saint-Louis in the center of Paris to unfurl a banner hostile to the French-Malian singer: "No way, Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market!" The slogan referenced lyrics from one of Nakamura's hits ("Djadja") and her birthplace, the Malian capital. Heirs to the far-right group Génération Identitaire, which was dissolved in 2021, Les Natifs – who have 10,000 followers on Instagram and 19,000 on X – specialize in actions involving hostile posters and banners, often targeting immigration or promoting the defense of "European civilization." Recently, activists plastered portraits of Joan of Arc and Sainte Geneviève over images of veiled women displayed at the Basilica of Saint-Denis, in the northern Paris suburb. Posted on their X account and viewed nearly 4.5 million times, the photo of the anti-Nakamura banner was accompanied by a short text lamenting President Emmanuel Macron's supposed plan: "To replace French elegance with vulgarity, to Africanize our popular songs, and to sideline the native population in favor of extra-European immigration." The message demanded that "France be represented by an artist embodying our heritage, our values and our identity!"

Thirteen go on trial in France over 'racist' insult targeting singer Aya Nakamura

Thirteen people will appear in a Paris court on Wednesday, June 4, over a "racist" insult targeting French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura, who faced criticism from the far right and harassment over her performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The defendants, linked to extreme-right group Les Natifs (the Natives), are on trial for unveiling a banner in March 2024 that read: "No way, Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market" – a reference to Mali's capital, where the singer was born. Nakamura's performance sparked a political firestorm among far-right politicians and conservatives in a reaction French President Emmanuel Macron at the time described as "racist" and "shocking." The 13 defendants, between 20 and 31-years-old, now face charges of publicly inciting hatred or violence – or complicity in such incitement – on the grounds of ethnicity, nationality, race, or religion. Les Natifs espouses the far-right, white nationalist so-called "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory, according to which white Europeans are being deliberately supplanted by non-white immigrants. Nakamura responded to the group's stunt on social media, writing: "You can be racist, but you're not deaf... and that's what really bothers you! I'm suddenly the number one topic of debate – but what do I really owe you? Nothing." The singer and anti-discrimination NGOs filed complaints with the Paris prosecutor's office over the incident, which was investigated by France's anti-hate crimes organization, OCLCH. 'Shock public opinion' The 30-year-old is the world's most listened to Francophone singer, and her July 2024 performance on one of Paris's fabled bridges, the Pont des Arts, was among the most-watched moments of the opening ceremony. But when rumors began circulating in March that the Mali-born and Paris-raised superstar was going to perform, far-right politicians and groups vehemently criticized the decision. An appearance by Nakamura, who mixes French with Arabic and Malian slang, would "humiliate" the country, far-right leader Marine Le Pen suggested, taking aim at her supposed "vulgarity" and "the fact that she doesn't sing in French." Far-right media amplified Les Natifs' banner which they unfurled along the capital's Seine River, another in a series of provocative stunts by the group which it shares with thousands of followers on social media. In March, the group covered portraits of veiled women on display in a church in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis with black sheets. One of the 13 defendants set to stand trial on Wednesday, Stanislas T., 24, will also face charges in that case on Thursday. And in February, they plastered an Air Algeria office in Paris with posters reading "Re-migrate 'light' from France to Algeria, for a one-way ticket with no return" written over a single suitcase. Nakamura's complaint is not the only one stemming from last summer's opening ceremony to head to trial. A French court in May found seven people guilty of bullying Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the opening ceremony who is openly gay. And five people are to stand trial in September over similar complaints from Barbara Butch, a French DJ and lesbian activist who starred in a controversial scene during the event.
