Tomer Blechman didn't set out to become a chef. Moving to San Francisco from Tel Aviv back in 2005, his intentions were of a holistic nature, looking for a career in acupuncture and massage. But once those didn't pan out, he decided to take his calling for healing in a different route, starting with what we eat. The aspiring chef sharpened his knives at Bar Bolonat and Gramercy Tavern before debuting with Miss Ada in 2017. Back in 2018, we praised the Fort Greene eatery for its "verdant platter of herb-dyed green falafel as crisp on the outside as it is tender on the inside." As for the hummus masabaha with a crown of lamb shawarma, we said it was "nothing short of a religious experience, especially when paired alongside their fluffy pita for scraping the plate clean." Years later, we still sing the same praises, with verses dedicated to the late-night skewers such as the Kofte Kebab that spills out with pine nuts, lashed with a zippy habanero relish. AM specials follow suite in their greatness, like the flaky Malawach and the challah French Toast drizzled with dollops of an airy labne mousse that begs to be licked clean. The vibe: Miss Ada is a cozy find with pinewood banquettes and round bulbs that glow over the marble bar. The back of the space houses a community table, made to encourage conversation over plates of pillowy pita. The food: Blechman roots around the Middle East with all manner of mezze and dips and skewers, plus brunch specials that range from massive Bourekas and a warming Chocolate Babka. The drinks: The drinks call out to Israel, most evident in the Dead Sea cocktail with a blend of guava, mezcal and mint and the arak-forward Thyme After Thyme, balanced with gin, egg, and, naturally, thyme.

I Didn't Think French Toast Could Get Any Better, but Here We Are

A nice thing I do for myself is, whenever it's available, I pick up a loaf of shokupan from my local bakery. Everything about shokupan is pleasing — its plushiness, neat cubic shape, buttery aroma and fawn color. It's my favorite landing pad for all sorts of sandwiches, sandos and toasts, though I'm perfectly happy munching on a soft square, plain and unadorned, with a milky afternoon tea. You don't need shokupan to make Cybelle Tondu's Hong Kong-style French toast (any white sandwich or brioche-style loaf will do) but it's a great excuse to seek it out. Likewise, you don't need peanut butter for the filling, and could swipe your slices instead with marmalade, chocolate-hazelnut spread, a different nut butter or (ohh) kaya. The formula here — custard-dunked, shallow-fried bread holding an oozing filling and topped with a sigh of butter and sweetened condensed milk — sets you up for delicious success. It's a very nice thing for a weekend morning. Featured Recipe View Recipe → Cilantro-mint chicken lettuce wraps: How stunning are these vivid green wraps from Zainab Shah? Versatile, too: If you're not liking lettuce, you could tuck the tangy, herby chicken salad into sandwiches; if you're chickened out, the green chutney would be wonderful on kebabs and fritters. Shorbat adas bil hamod (lentil soup with greens): I once rented an Airbnb that came with the instructions to 'please water and eat the chard.' We ate a (literal) bunch of it every day. I wish I'd had this easy, healthy recipe from Noor Murad, which turns one pound of those tender, leafy greens into a sustaining, lemony soup. Crispy tofu tacos: Alexa Weibel doesn't exclusively develop vegetarian and vegan recipes, but her vegetarian and vegan recipes are so, so good. (You've met the Beans, yes?) These assertively seasoned, umami-full tofu tacos already have five stars. 'It was so delicious I ate one pan all by myself' writes Julia, a reader. Our Cookie Week king Vaughn Vreeland has written — wait for it — 'Cookies,' a cookbook full of brilliant recipes for anytime treats. Ladurée's Tiramisu 360: One Dessert, Three Ways, All Drama

Forget everything you know about tiramisu. Ladurée Saudi just turned the classic on its head, and gave it three lives. There are desserts you order. And then there are desserts you make a calendar event for. Ladurée's new Tiramisu 360 collection belongs to the latter. The French patisserie, already known for turning sweet things into grand gestures, has taken on the Italian classic with all the finesse, theatre, and cocoa-dusted confidence you'd expect from the house that gave us gold-leafed macarons and croissant couture. But this isn't just tiramisu with a new hat. It's three distinct creations, each reimagining the layers, textures, and codes of the original from a different angle. Together, they form a decadent trilogy: part homage, part remix, and 100% Ladurée. The Pastry Let's start with the showpiece. A delicate White Opalys chocolate cup , lined with a crisp coffee base and filled with coffee-soaked ladyfinger , hazelnut-praline , and an aerated mascarpone cream so smooth it feels like a hush. The entire thing is finished with cocoa powder, of course, because Ladurée may play with form, but never forgets the flourishes. The Macaron Then comes the icon. A tiramisu macaron , shells gently dusted in cocoa, filled with mascarpone cream and a sleek layer of coffee crémeux . It's the flavour of tiramisu in a single bite, with all the charm of something far too pretty to eat. (But you will.) The French Toast And for those who want to start their decadence before noon: coffee-infused brioche , slathered with mascarpone , dripping in coffee sauce , and sprinkled with cocoa. It's French toast, yes, but it's also an excuse to have dessert for breakfast and not apologise for it. The collection is now available at all Ladurée boutiques across the Kingdom, with particular buzz at Laysen Valley and Riyadh Park . Bonus: the Laysen Valley branch offers door-to-door delivery , so you can have all three components of your tiramisu identity crisis without ever leaving the couch.

Savoury sweetcorn French toast with cherry tomato salsa

Savoury will always win over sweet for me, but no more so than in a French toast recipe. This version is creamy, substantial, has an acidic hit from the salsa and – like all the best things – is topped with a shower of grated cheese. Overview Prep time 5 mins Cook time 20 mins Serves 6 Ingredients For the salsa 300g cherry tomatoes, finely diced ½ red onion, finely diced juice of 1 lime small bunch of soft herbs – coriander, flat-leaf parsley or dill, or a mix – roughly chopped 1 green chilli, finely diced a glug of extra virgin olive oil For the French toast 6 eggs 1 small tin of sweetcorn (165g, drained weight) ½ tsp smoked paprika 6 slices of thick-cut white bread butter, for frying 50g strong Cheddar cheese, grated hot sauce (optional)
