HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy presented the inaugural Gaddar Film Awards, honouring cinematic excellence at a glittering ceremony held at the HITEX Exhibition Centre. Named in honour of revolutionary poet Gaddar, the event celebrated achievements of film personalities from June 2014 to December2024, marking a revival of state-sponsored film awards, replacing the former Nandi awards. Held before a star-studded audience that included prominent Tollywood personalities, the ceremony celebrated achievements in acting, direction, technical crafts and featured top honours such as Best Feature Film, Best Actor and Best Actress. Addressing the gathering, the chief minister highlighted the Congress long-standing respect for cinema, recalling that it was the Congress government in 1964 that first introduced the prestigious Nandi Awards. 'That legacy continued during the era of united Andhra Pradesh. Now, a decade after the formation of Telangana, we are proud to institute film awards in the name of Gaddar,' he said. Highlighting Hyderabad's importance as a hub of the Indian film industry, Revanth stated, 'When we say Indian cinema, we must first acknowledge Telugu cinema. And Hyderabad is the stage for Telugu cinema.'

Hyderabad: A spectacular showcase of singing and dance performances by artists enthralled the audience at the first Gaddar Film Awards ceremony in Hyderabad. The event was a vibrant celebration of talent, featuring a diverse range of acts. The ceremony included a powerful vocal performance by an artist in traditional attire, accompanied by rhythmic Dappu drums and other percussion. Another singer delivered a passionate performance, using expressive hand gestures to emphasise his lyrics. A dynamic group of male dancers V-unbeatable of America's Got Talent fame presented a synchronised routine on stage, captivating the audience with their energy. The crowd was also energized by a male singer in a vibrant green shirt, while a female singer, dressed in a saree, delivered a captivating vocal performance, employing hand gestures to convey emotion. Another male singer, in a red shirt, performed with great enthusiasm, moving around the stage and engaging with the audience. A graceful dance performance was delivered by a group of women in colourful sarees, spinning and moving in unison. The evening concluded with a lively performance featuring a group of male dancers and singers, bringing the event to a vibrant and memorable close. The event clearly showcased a wide array of talent, from classical and Telangana folk dance (including a performance by 60 dancers) to contemporary music. The performances, including those by S S Thaman, and a rendition of the state anthem 'Jay Jay Hai Telangana' by Keravani garu, and a performance by singer Mangli, created a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for all in attendance.

He added, 'We are selecting three best films from each year among the films released from 2014 to 2023 and presenting awards to them at this ceremony. Awards will be given to the hero, heroine, director, and producers of the selected films. This marks the beginning of a new tradition through the Gaddar Film Awards. Awards will also be presented for the best films and technicians of 2024. I urge everyone in the Telugu film industry to attend this event, which is being held after 14 years, and make it a grand success.' Film titles selected for awards will be presented in single quotes such as 'Baahubali', 'Rangasthalam', or 'Mahanati', depending on the specific yearly winners already announced by the authorities.
