Liverpool in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong's former coach
Jeremie Frimpong could soon be seeing a familiar face at the club's facilities from his Manchester City days. The Reds signed the Dutch international this summer and already he's generated a lot of hype from the fanbase. Advertisement Frimpong is one of the best right-backs in world football, especially when it comes to his offensive output. He is a brilliant defender as well, and often underrated for his work-rate and ability when it comes to that side of the game. Now he'll be joining a supremely talented squad, that will see him competing with Conor Bradley for the right-back spot and also supplying Mohamed Salah on the right-wing. This is going to be a fascinating dynamic and one that will make Liverpool an even stronger outfit. On top of all of that, Frimpong will have a familiar face joining him at the club. Him and Florian Wirtz were teammates at Bayer Leverkusen and now they are going to be teammates at Anfield as well. Advertisement But that's not the only former colleague of Frimpong, who could be coming to Liverpool this summer. Liverpool Women's team are looking for a new head coach after they parted ways with Matt Beard, who spent close to a decade working for the club. According to The Guardian in the club's search for a new head coach, Liverpool have held talks with former Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor. Taylor worked at Manchester City for several years and he didn't work just at the women's team. He also worked in the club's academy, which is where he worked alongside Frimpong. During the 2017/18 season when Taylor worked for the club's U18 team, Frimpong was his first-choice right-back.

Liverpool Women in talks to appoint Gareth Taylor as head coach
Gareth Taylor is in talks with Liverpool Women to become the club's head coach. Discussions between former Manchester City boss Taylor and Liverpool are ongoing, but nothing has yet been signed. Taylor, 52, would be the permanent replacement for Matt Beard, who was sacked in February and replaced on an interim basis by Amber Whiteley, who will remain at Liverpool as assistant coach. Advertisement Liverpool finished seventh in the Women's Super League (WSL) in 2024-25, the same position as when Beard left, after a fourth-place finish the previous campaign. Despite adding Olivia Smith to the squad from Sporting CP for a club-record fee (£210,000), Liverpool were not able to replicate their previous WSL success. The Merseyside club matched their previous term's number of league defeats within the first 10 games but did manage to win three of their last eight matches after Whiteley took over. Liverpool were promoted back to the WSL under Beard in 2022 and finished seventh in their first season back. Beard described their rise to fourth in the following campaign as the side having 'overperformed' in relation to their budget when compared with the WSL's traditional top four — Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal. Taylor spent four and a half years with City before parting ways with the club in March, with the side one point off the Champions League places and 12 points off league leaders Chelsea. The Englishman won the FA Cup in 2020 and the League Cup two years later with the Manchester club but could not lead them to a WSL title, finishing second in 2021 and 2024. Under Taylor, City only finished outside the top three — and qualification for the Champions League — once, in 2022-23. Beard, meanwhile, has since been appointed as head coach at third-tier side Burnley.

Gareth Taylor in talks with Liverpool to take over as new WSL manager
Liverpool have held talks with the former Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor about their managerial vacancy. The Merseyside club have been searching for a new manager since the departure of Matt Beard in February, with Amber Whiteley placed in interim charge for the remainder of last season. Liverpool finished seventh in the WSL table. Taylor was a Women's FA Cup winner with Manchester City in 2020 and also led them to the League Cup in 2022, before a second-placed finish in the league in 2024. The 52-year-old had previously coached within Manchester City's academy. The former Wales striker spent just under five years at the helm at Manchester City, before being sacked in March, just days before this year's League Cup final. During his playing career, he represented a range of clubs including Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City. Liverpool are two-time former WSL winners, having lifted the title twice in succession during Beard's first spell in charge of the club in 2013 and 2014, but they have not challenged for the title for a decade. They were relegated down to the second tier in 2020 but won promotion back to the top flight under Beard in 2022 and secured an impressive fourth-placed finish in 2024, and they were FA Cup quarter-finalists in that same year. They were not the only WSL club searching for a new head coach this summer. Tottenham have appointed the Englishman Martin Ho, while Manchester City opted to hire the Swedish-born coach of the Denmark women's national side, Andree Jeglertz. He will take over at Manchester City after Euro 2025. In WSL 2, Southampton have appointed the former Blackburn Rovers coach Simon Parker, Crystal Palace have hired the former Rangers boss Jo Potter and Bristol City have appointed the former Manchester United assistant coach, Charlotte Healy.
