Wimbledon guest slammed as she's caught dipping strawberries in 'gross' sauce

A Wimbledon attendee has been slammed after she chose to boycott classic cream while enjoying strawberries and opted for a very interesting choice of sauce One person who attended Wimbledon turned heads over her choice of sauce for her strawberries. Every year, thousands of people enjoy the classic strawberries and cream as the world's best compete for the top trophy at Wimbledon, but one person decided to boycott this. It's estimated that approximately 200,000 portions of the British summertime staple are enjoyed throughout the championship, with a whopping 1.9 million strawberries, totalling 38.4 tonnes served and over 7,000 litres of cream from a family-run farm in Kent is poured throughout the summer. ‌ But Brits often like to put their own spin on certain delicacies, and one person in attendance this year did just that, which raised eyebrows amongst other people who were there to witness the tense tennis matches. ‌ One woman decided to ditch the cream altogether and instead opted for a Garlic & Herb dip for her summertime treat. Clara Jennings, 29, from Guildford, dipped her strawberries into the sauce, which is often paired with a pizza from the high street chain, Domino's. "Everyone does cream - I wanted something different," she said. Clara added: "It was a light-hearted joke. Sweet, savoury, and a little bit weird … But it works! ‌ "I brought it as a bit of a laugh, really, but honestly, people loved it. I think I've started something." But while Clara appeared to enjoy the odd choice of sauce, some were left completely baffled by her choice. "I had to double-take when I saw it, but I think it's pretty gross," said one person, before going on to add: "Strawberries and cream are a match made in heaven - this dip should be reserved for pizza and only pizza." ‌ But not everybody was in agreement with Londoner, Jennifer Holmes, being left fascinated by Clara's unique pairing. She said: "I'm all for the sweet and savoury mix - someone has to start the trend, take peanut butter and jelly for example, that started with confusion, but then went on to take the world by storm." Despite the cost of living crisis and food prices increasing, the summertime dish has been kept at the same price at Wimbledon since 2010. Those in attendance can get their hands on a portion for just £2.50 which is a stark contrast to restaurant prices. ‌ One thing that has changed in recent years, is a plant-based cream for vegans, made available at certain outlets around the facility. A spokesperson for Domino's, said: "When this popped up on our Instagram, it was the first time we've seen someone enjoying our dip with strawberries! "How people enjoy our Garlic & Herb Dip is up to them - after all, lots of strange combinations were only strange until someone tried them. Perhaps next year we'll see raspberries dipped into BBQ Sauce, or bananas drizzled with Honey and Mustard. "Brits are renowned for their sense of individualism, and there's nothing more British than Wimbledon, so keep your eyes peeled."
