General Authority for Antiquities condemns historic dome destruction of Virgin Mary in Al-Dhale'
Sana'a – Saba: The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Sana'a expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the crime of bombing the historic Dome of the Virgin Mary, an archaeological landmark located in the Al-Sharifa area, which is under the control of the aggression mercenaries in Al-Dhale' province. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Authority clarified that the dome is not a place of worship but rather an archaeological site containing centuries-old tombs, representing a rare architectural masterpiece and a historical symbol. The Authority called on international organizations concerned with the protection of human heritage to assume their responsibilities regarding the systematic targeting and deliberate destruction of Yemeni heritage. It stressed that such actions constitute a crime against Yemeni history and civilization. The Authority warned that the continued silence of the international community in the face of these violations encourages further tampering with Yemen's cultural and humanitarian heritage. General Authority for Antiquities confirms Bronze Statues remain in National Museum in Sana'a
Sana'a – SABA: The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums confirmed that the two bronze statues, which social media posts claimed had been taken out of the country, are preserved in the National Museum in Sana'a. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Authority appreciated the concern of all those dedicated to preserving Yemeni heritage. It called on everyone to verify the accuracy and credibility of any news related to antiquities and to refer to the official authority—the General Authority for Antiquities—to confirm any information before publishing, in order to maintain credibility and avoid spreading rumors. The statement noted that some social media platforms had recently circulated a post claiming that two Yemeni antiquities (bronze statues) had been taken out of the country, relying on old published photos of the artifacts. It clarified that the two statues in question are preserved in the National Museum in Sana'a, registered under numbers (263 YM and 264 YM), and are currently displayed in the museum's exhibition halls. The Authority explained that the circulated photos are of the same statues but were taken years ago before restoration work. One of the statues appears in the images with fractures in the neck and right hand.
