The Texas Longhorns have high expectations for their second season in the SEC, following a trip to the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff. Advertisement While Texas had a good season, it was not enough to secure the commitment of an in-state talent. On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that four-star cornerback Chace Calicut committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over Texas and the Michigan Wolverines. Texas and Georgia both hosted Calicut for an official visit this month. The Longhorns had the most recent visit on June 20, while the Bulldogs' visit was on June 6. He also held offers from the Washington Huskies, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide and others. Advertisement If he had chosen Texas, Calicut would have joined a class highlighted by five-star quarterback Dia Bell, five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley, and four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr. The Longhorns do have a cornerback commit from the 2026 class, in four-star prospect Hayward Howard Jr. More bad news came Texas' way on Thursday regarding four-star defensive lineman James Johnson. A prediction was made for Georgia to land the top defensive lineman in the 2026 class over Texas and the Florida Gators. It has not been all bad for the Longhorns lately. A prediction for Texas to land four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland came true. He committed to Texas on June 21. The Georgia Bulldogs landed 2026 four-star wide receiver Craig Dandridge on the recruiting trail Thursday. But the Bulldogs may not be done adding star playmakers. Advertisement Bulldogs five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis is hoping Georgia can land yet another highly touted receiver. On3's Steve Wiltfong reported Friday that Curtis is taking matters into his own hands to ensure that happens. "Nashville (Tenn.) Christian five-star quarterback Jared Curtis is the top-ranked prospect competing at the [Overtime OT7 Playoffs] checking in as the nation's No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 signal-caller," Wiltfong wrote. "He's playing for the Overtime RWE Team and he talked future Georgia teammate Lincoln Keyes to fly down and play with him. Those two will continue to build on the chemistry already formed. "Curtis is doing his part to help recruit another one of his teammates at the event in five-star receiver Cederian Morgan." Advertisement 'We've got a great connection and I feel like if I go there I have a quarterback that's going to get me the ball,' Morgan told Wiltfong. Morgan is the No. 2 receiver and top Alabama prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The receiver is also rated the No. 12 overall recruit in the class. On3 projected Morgan's NIL value to be $355,000. It may be difficult, though, for the Bulldogs to poach Morgan from his home state. The 247Sports crystal ball predicted the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers as the favorites to land Morgan. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine also had Alabama and Auburn as the top two candidates for Morgan. Based on the On3 RPM, Georgia has under a 1% chance of landing the five-star wideout. Advertisement On3's Keegan Pope reported this week four-star defensive lineman James Johnson will announce his final college decision Saturday. Both Simmons and Wiltfong projected Johnson to choose the Bulldogs. 'Georgia was the clear favorite at one time for James Johnson, and with Florida, Miami and Texas pushing for the elite defensive lineman in south Florida, we still hear good things around the Bulldogs,' Simmons wrote. 'Johnson is set to announce his decision on June 30 and we expect schools to battle up until the time he announces.' Two SEC foes -- the Florida Gators and Texas Longhorns -- and a familiar Georgia recruiting foe -- the Miami Hurricanes -- are the other schools contending for Johnson. Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, Johnson is the No. 8 defensive lineman and 10th-ranked Florida prospect for 2026. The composite rankings also have Johnson at No. 69 overall in the class. If the Bulldogs receive a pledge from Johnson on Saturday, it would cap off quite the week for the Bulldogs on the recruiting trail. Since Sunday, Georgia has landed commitments from four four-star prospects -- linebacker Shadarius Toodle, edge rusher Khamari Brooks, running back Jae Lamar, and wide receiver Craig Dandridge. Georgia's overall rating for College Football 26 revealed
The Georgia Bulldogs have an overall rating of 88 in College Football 26. Georgia has the sixth-highest team rating in the popular EA Sports video game. The Bulldogs are one of seven different teams rated as 88 overall. EA Sports ranks the Alabama Crimson Tide as the top team in the country with a rating of 89. Alabama has the nation's top defensive rating (96) in the country. The Crimson Tide are rated 89 on offense. Advertisement Georgia has the nation's fourth-best defense with a rating of 92. The Bulldogs have the No. 13 offense with a rating of 87. College Football 26 will be released on July 10 with some players being able to access the game as early as July 7. Last year, EA Sports' beloved video game returned for the first time in over a decade for College Football 25. Last year, Georgia the highest overall rating of any college football team (95) when the game was initially released. The Dawgs started with the top ranked offense and the second-best defense. Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature
Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray does not like how Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has handled everything since he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas. Since Beck's injury, he was reportedly not around the team much in preparation for the Sugar Bowl and then entered the 2025 NFL draft. Beck later changed his mind, which was probably the right decision, and elected to return for another year of college football. However, he entered the transfer portal and eventually signed with the Miami Hurricanes. Advertisement Beck has often been in the headlines this offseason for non-football reasons. He had luxury cars stolen and some drama with his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. These are not necessarily detrimental things, but they are distractions at the very least and raise questions if Beck is completely focused on football. Carson Beck of the Georgia Bulldogs throws on the sideline "I think he's handled it pretty poorly to be honest," said Murray after being asked about Beck's offseason since he got injured in the SEC championship. "I don't like all the distractions. I don't like what I've heard from the locker room. That at times he was not one of the guys in the locker room. That (Beck) was more concerned with making TikToks, being with his celebrity girlfriend." Georgia's projected starting quarterback in 2025, Gunner Stockton, is very well respected by his teammates and is quite humble. Advertisement Beck, who is still returning to 100% from his elbow injury, has less than three months to prepare for the 2025 college football season. Beck will have to ready play an elite team in Week 1 because Miami opens the season with Notre Dame. "Obviously the drama in the offseason with said girlfriend and everything else is like... if I'm an NFL GM or coach or offensive coordinator, I need my quarterback locked in," added Murray. Quarterbacks are the most important position in football and are expected to be leaders. It will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Beck in the 2026 NFL draft. "But I think that there's still more growing up that Carson (Beck) needs to go through and maturing to know what it means to be a professional. And being a professional quarterback doesn't mean that you drive, you know, a G-Wagon and a Lamborghini and have a celebrity girlfriend," said Murray.
