Marvel's MIDNIGHT SONS Movie Gets Promising Update — GeekTyrant

It looks like Marvel Studios is finally moving forward with its long-teased Midnight Sons movie. According to industry insider DanielRPK, Marvel has officially brought a writer on board to start scripting the film. There's no director, cast, or release date yet, and Marvel hasn't said a word publicly, but internally, it seems like the project is in early development. While there are obviously no plot details, it was previously reported that Ghost Rider could take the lead on the team. It would be wild to see the the flaming-skulled antihero leading the supernatural squad. Nicolas Cage famously played the character in Sony's Ghost Rider films, but it safe to assume that Marvel will cast someone else in the film. A Samurai variant of Ghost Rider did show up (very briefly) in the What If...? season 2 finale, but it was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of appearance. The original Midnight Sons series was created by Howard Mackie, Andy Kubert, and Bobby Chase and brought together other characters like Blade, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, and Elsa Bloodstone. With Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night, and Agatha All Along already dipping their toes into Marvel's darker side, it's not too far-fetched to imagine these characters sharing the screen in something wickedly unholy. Still, it's all quiet on the official front. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any of this, and the supernatural corner of the MCU remains largely undefined. But if this report holds, it looks like they're finally building toward something, and Midnight Sons could be the big, weird, ghost-fueled culmination of it all.

Marvel's ‘Ironheart' Soars Above The Hate

Source: Maya Dehlin Spach / Getty In one of the most heart-wrenching moments in Marvel's new excellent Disney+ series Ironheart , MIT tech genius, badass inventor, and complicated superhero Riri Williams is emotionally gutted after the AI version of her deceased best friend N.A.T.A.L.I.E. is deleted. 'Oh my God…' panics Tony 'Iron Man' Stark's rebellious mentee—played with layered grit by the criminally underrated Dominique Thorne. Riri discovers the sobering consequences of using dark magic to amp up her new and improved black and red metal suit for her showdown with mystically enhanced villain The Hood. Source: Marvel Studios / Ironheart The Ryan Coogler-executive produced Ironheart has exceeded expectations. The six-episode show currently holds an 86% critics rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes (that score ranks among the best of Marvel Studio TV and film properties). San Francisco Chronicle's Zaki Hasan summed up much of the buzz surrounding Ironheart , praising the series' bold, personal storytelling in a genre usually heavy on save-the-world bluster. Fans have been even more ecstatic, following the shocking [SPOILER ALERT!!!], long-awaited MCU introduction of one of Marvel Comics' most powerful demons, which already has folks envisioning a Midnight Sons team-up movie featuring Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Elsa Bloodstone, Blade. 'Ironheart is one of the best tv shows Marvel has made FIGHT WITH A WALL I DON'T CARE,' said one overly hyped viewer. 'Riri, you will forever be loved. AND FINALLY GETTING MEPHISTO???? oh we're so back and I will be expecting a season 2.' 'I think it's so yummy that Riri doesn't have to walk the traditional hero path,' Thorne told Entertainment Weekl y, following the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in which Ironheart makes a deal with 'the devil' to bring Natalie back to life. 'She has already crossed some lines and figured she'll handle the consequences on the other side. So what exactly is the scope? What's the scale of those consequences? And does she continue to resist? Does she continue to do the right thing or does she lean into the other part of her?' Credit for Ironheart's we-didn't-see-that-coming story building and smart, methodical pacing goes to head writer and showrunner Chinaka Hodge. She and fellow Oakland native Coogler unload an unapologetically Black yet inclusive show that somehow manages to balance over-the-top comic book fantasy with the grounded backdrop of working-class Chicago. Yet the initial rollout for Ironheart , which currently sits atop Disney+'s most streamed properties in the US, was tepid. Some fans have called out the show's bantam episode count (in comparison, the 2024 miniseries Agatha All Along was given nine episodes). Promotion for Ironheart , originally announced back in December of 2020 by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige as part of the Disney-backed company's new slate of shows, has been muted. Since then Marvel's 'Phase 5' has been hit and mostly miss (the all-heart Thunderbolts* deserved better). Source: Marvel Studios / Ironheart It was as if Feige and company were spooked by so-called superhero fatigue. But there was something more disturbing happening. Before Ironheart even made its June 24 premiere, it was review-bombed by belligerent fanboys apparently outraged over the mere idea of a Black woman headlining a superhero show. 'Ironheart' Star Has Defiant Response to Audience Negativity as RT Score…'Ironheart' has been gaining some mixed reactions, but that is fine by one star of the MCU series. Never mind that Williams—originally created by comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, and introduced in 2016's Invincible Iron Man No. 7—became an instant fan favorite following Thorne's appearance in the 2022 blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . The theory goes that Marvel suits were reluctant to fully embrace Ironheart due to the current toxic, racist, and misogynistic-fueled DEI scare. 'Without knowing who was responsible for marketing… it's hard to believe that it wasn't a factor,' film and television writer Cheo Hodari Coker tells Cassius Life . The pen behind Ray Donovan , Southland , Notorious , and Creed II has had experience with working inside the Marvel world. Coker was showrunner for the Netflix superhero series Luke Cage , one of Marvel's early Black characters to headline their own book in 1972. Coker sees similarities between the two productions, recalling the time he premiered the Luke Cage trailer at Comic-Con in 2016. Ol' Dirty Bastard's 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya' blasted in the background as an ass-kicking Cage ran through an army of bad guys. 'We leaned into Hip-Hop and into Luke's Blackness, much how the show leans into Riri's,' adds Coker. Coker further makes the case that Coogler's recent box office glory with a certain Oscar-ready vampire movie has helped give Ironheart extra momentum. 'Ryan's triumphant turn with Sinners , I suspect, made [Marvel] realize that associating with his brand was an asset that could transcend any of the racist trolling,' he continues. 'And that, at the same time, once people actually got to see the show, they would see just how brilliant it is.' Indeed, Ironheart diehards have certainly done their part, pushing back against brazen attempts by the usual suspects to sabotage the show. And OG Iron Man , Robert Downey Jr, who Thorne calls her 'bestie' (he's set to play Marvel's next big baddie Dr. Doom in the upcoming 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday ) has given his full, glowing support to the actress and the Ironheart crew. Beyond the cool CGI and slick fight scenes, the show's strong cast is reason enough to give Ironheart a watch. Anji White gives Riri's supportive, no-nonsense mother, Ronnie, a wise, regal aura. The aforementioned Natalie, played by the scene-stealing Lyric Ross, embodies the coolest (and effortlessly hilarious) best homie from around the way. Regan Aliyah delivers offbeat charm as future Doctor Strange protégé Zelma Stanton. Anthony Ramos injects Ironheart's ominous Hood with enough eye-winking charisma to make Jessica Jones' David Tennant (Purple Man) jealous. LaRoyce Hawkins (Riri's stepfather Gary Williams) will break your heart while the youngest of the cast, Harper Anthony, gives Martin's iconic Hustle Man a run for his money as the wise-cracking Landon. The irreverent Sacha Baron Cohen was seemingly born to play Mephisto. And Thorne leads the entire production with a ferocity balanced by raw vulnerability. While it's too soon to say if Ironheart will be extended for a second season, Coker, an unabashed fan of the show, says he's ready for more. 'The same way that Luke Cage embraced '90s Hip-Hop and proved their was a huge audience, taking cues from James Gunn's embrace of '70s AM rock for Guardians of the Galaxy , my hope is that Marvel and Disney understand that there is a huge audience for Ironheart .' Game director Guangyun Chen has said the team is now keenly turning to community votes to influence the roster, drawing from Marvel's expansive 85-year history of comic book characters. A Superhero Free For All, Now with Fan Control With a hero shooter built around a Marvel-sized universe, the problem isn't finding the characters, it's deciding who and when. Who is Mephisto? The MCU's sinister new villain & his possible return post‑Ironheart

In Ironheart's last episode, Mephisto made his MCU debut, leaving many fans to speculate about his potential next appearance and level of power. His initial appearance suggests a bigger role in the MCU's future, and the demonic villain is known for making deals that frequently come at a high cost. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Ironheart's devil's deal In Ironheart, Mephisto is depicted using an enchanted cloak that gives the Hood his abilities. The Hood can bend bullets and become invisible thanks to this cloak. In a flashback, Mephisto makes an appearance and offers Parker Robbins a means of escape by constructing a pizzeria door. A ccording to ScreenRant, he freezes everyone there with a single look and suggests he could do the same to the entire city of Chicago. Mephisto's ability to read Riri Williams' thoughts and wave her out of her suit demonstrates his power. Because of Mephisto, Natalie returns to life at the end of the season. This implies that Mephisto is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU to date because of his abilities to bend reality and control life and death. Stronger than Thanos? The primary danger in the Infinity Saga was Thanos, who destroyed half of the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet. Even without the stones, Thanos could defeat the Hulk and face the Avengers. However, unlike the Infinity Stones, Mephisto's abilities are independent of any outside objects. Because of his natural capacity to control reality and souls, he is somewhat superior to Thanos. Here's where Mephisto might show up next Many fans are wondering where Mephisto might reappear now that Ironheart is over. The evil opponent may appear in a number of future MCU productions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now First, since Ironheart was a limited series, it's unclear if a second season would examine Riri Williams' relationship with Mephisto. Mephisto might make an appearance in the Young Avengers series, which is rumored to carry on Riri's story. Doctor Strange 3 is another excellent choice. Mephisto would be a perfect fit as another supernatural villain because the sorcerer had previously faced Dormammu. There are also rumors of a Midnight Sons film. According to ScreenRant, this team might consist of characters who already have a connection with Mephisto, such as Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, and Werewolf by Night. Lastly, there have long been rumors of a Ghost Rider project. If that movie goes forward, Mephisto would probably make a comeback because he is a part of Ghost Rider's origin story.

Europe's newest theme park finally opens - but guests aren't happy with rides and ticket prices

Europe's latest theme park opening - which is hoping to rival the likes of Thorpe Park and Disneyland Paris - has finally welcomed its first thrill-seekers, after a month-long delay in opening. Fairytale-themed Hossoland had been due to open in the village of Brojce on Pola nd's northern coast on May 31st - but last-minute delays have seen it lose four vital weeks in the lucrative summer season. Now though, the doors have officially opened and the verdict is in on the park, which spans 400,000sq m and boasts 50 rides and attractions across four themed lands. Some have said Hossoland, which centres around a lighthouse and is inspired by local Baltic legends and fairytales, should have been more ambitious - particularly in how many big thrill rides there are. While Poland's biggest theme park, Energylandia, has 18 rollercoasters, there are just four at Hossoland, with one critic wasping: This is supposed to be competition for Energylandia? 4 rollercoasters?' Another added: 'But do you plan something more hardcore for adults? Me and my 15-year-old son are waiting impatiently.' GhostRider, a steel coaster, was set to be one of the park's standout attractions - but that now doesn't seem to be on the menu anytime soon. The new rollercoaster, which cost several million pounds, was supposed to stretch 53m in the air taking guests on a thrilling ride at speeds of 72mph. Some griped over the £34 adult entry price, with one saying tickets 'aren't cheap either'. Others defended the new park, saying that while it appears to be aimed at younger children, new rides were still being built. There has been plenty of excitement on the park's social media sites too though, with many theme park goers impressed and others saying they're keen to visit this summer. One person wrote on the park's official Instagram site: 'I was there today I'll say yes... MEGA! I liked the most on the roller coaster in the dragon zone.' Another added: 'Really one of the most beautiful entrances. Not getting over it. Bravo'. The four lands include the Dragon Valley of the Mines, the Land of the Vikings, the Kingdom of Baltambrya and Mermaid City. Karen Hovsepyan, vice president of the park's operator Hosso Group, previously told Planet Attractions: 'Hossoland will be the only amusement park of such a large scale on the Polish coast. 'It will certainly become a recognisable symbol and a frequently visited place in this region.' It's hoped that the park will soon attract one million tourists per year. The closest airport to Hoosoland is Szczecin and Brits can book direct flights with Ryanair from both Liverpool and London. Hossoland is then about a one hour drive from the airport. The park is also under three hours drive from Berlin. Last week, it was revealed that a former theme park could be transformed into hundreds of homes 15 years after the site was closed and left to rot. A planning application has been submitted to turn the former Camelot Theme Park in Charnock Richard, Lancashire into 350 homes. The park closed in 2012 after nearly 30 years and has been empty ever since, aside from occasional use for immersive Halloween events and laser tag. Story Homes has submitted the application to turn the site into housing, with 50 per cent proposed to be affordable housing for local people, The Bolton News reported. The homes would include a range of sizes for first-time buyers, families and older couples looking to downsize. During the height of its popularity, Camelot was one of the north west's most prominent tourist attractions, featuring a range of offerings like the amusement ride Excalibur 2, and hosting live jousting in an arena. Inspired by the legend of King Arthur, the ill-fated park was boarded up after being open to the public for nearly 30 years. Owners Knights Leisure said bad weather contributed to low visitor numbers - and so the decision was made to shut the park down, with over 150 staff losing their jobs. The amusement park was home to the legendary Knightmare roller coaster - the structure of which remained standing tall even after it was shut down and was only dismantled in 2020. Other famous rides at the medieval-themed park included the Dragon Flyer, Caterpillar Capers, The Galleon and Pendragon's Plunge.
