Liverpool confirm Kirsty Maclean transfer from Glasgow Rangers

Kirsty Maclean Joins Liverpool: A Rising Star Adds New Chapter to Women's Ambitions Liverpool have made their first move of the summer in the women's transfer window, officially confirming the signing of highly-rated midfielder Kirsty Maclean from Glasgow Rangers. The 20-year-old, who made her senior breakthrough at just 16, arrives at the AXA Melwood Training Centre with both pedigree and promise. Advertisement For a club steeped in tradition, this move signals more than a simple reinforcement. It's a statement. In Maclean, Liverpool haven't just signed a player – they've acquired a symbol of intent. Her journey from the Rangers academy to the heart of their title-winning team in 2021-22 already reads like a blueprint for leadership. Now, she steps into a new environment hungry for growth and success. 'I'm really looking forward to it. I'm really excited to get going in pre-season and to meet all the girls, and hopefully we can start the season well,' Maclean told 'I think the club speaks for itself. It's obviously a massive club with a lot of history and to be able to represent the badge is a really proud moment for me.' From Ibrox prodigy to Anfield potential Maclean's trajectory has been quietly but impressively upward. After rising through the youth system at Rangers, she quickly established herself as a key player during the 2022-23 campaign and earned a PFA Scotland Women's Young Player of the Year nomination. Her technical ability, vision, and fearlessness on the ball marked her out as one to watch. That same year, her performances earned her a debut call-up to the senior Scotland squad. She made her first international appearance in a 3-0 win against Northern Ireland in June 2023 and has since accumulated nine caps. Advertisement Her move to Liverpool feels timely – and strategic. With the women's game continuing to build momentum and visibility, clubs like Liverpool know the value of investing in the next wave of talent. Bold steps for Liverpool's women's project While the headlines are often dominated by Liverpool's men's team and their high-profile additions – most recently the likes of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, and Florian Wirtz – the women's side is quietly crafting a new identity. Underpinned by smart recruitment and youth-centric development, Maclean's arrival fits this ethos perfectly. She's not just a signing. She's a foundation stone.

Brand-new Rutherglen Rangers FC pub left 'blown away'

Walters Bar officially opened its doors on Queen Street in Rutherglen on Tuesday, July 1. Following its first week in business, the Gers boozer shared a heartfelt message to its punters reflecting on the week. READ MORE: Group of Ibrox legends pictured at Glasgow Rangers bar READ MORE: Glasgow Rangers pub visited by club legend before match In the post, they revealed that 'despite the challenges' the watering hole had been 'blown away by the support, the generosity, and the atmosphere' that its new customers brought to the venue. The drinking spot said the first week open had been 'one to remember'. The bar also thanked 'every single person' who popped into the establishment. In a Facebook post, Walters Bar said: "What a week at Walters – thank you all. "Our first week at Walters has been one to remember – and we want to thank every single person who came to support us, especially those who travelled from across the country and from Belfast. "We have to be honest – we were under pressure. "The response and footfall were far beyond anything we anticipated. At times, we simply couldn't keep up, and unfortunately, some people walked out due to wait times and stock running low. "For that, we're truly sorry. "There were teething problems – our gas went, we ran out of stock, the list goes on. "But we're learning fast, making changes, and doing everything we can to improve. "Despite the challenges, we've been blown away by the support, the generosity, and the atmosphere you've all brought to Walters. "We're working hard behind the scenes to make sure your next visit is smoother and even more enjoyable. "This is just the beginning, and we're so grateful you chose to be part of it. "Team Walters."

Why Relebohile Mofokeng will leave Orlando Pirates this winter

Orlando Pirates were saved on several occasions by the mesmerising skills of youngster Relebohile Mofokeng. The 20-year-old amassed 27 goal contributions during the recently concluded 2024/25 season, including eight in thirteen CAF Champions League appearances. The boy from Sharpeville has the world at his feet – and boy, do they want him. Several clubs have inquired, including Barcelona FC and Glasgow Rangers, and most recently, Al Ahly and Zamalek FC, who had their R25.8 million mid-season bid rejected during the summer window. The Buccaneers have done all they can to keep hold of their starboy, but everyone has a price (especially in soccer), and it appears Orlando Pirates' is around R31.2 million, plus a selling-on percentage, which has been known to materialise lucrative returns. 'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' SoccerLaduma confirmed. The fact that Orlando Pirates have placed a valuation on Mofokeng suggests that they're willing to listen to offers, increasing the likelihood of an offseason exit. Late last year Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos predicted that last season would be Mofokeng's last with Orlando Pirates, a belief that the player's father hopes will become reality. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. [Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' say's the Orlando Pirates' player's father. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.'
