Why Relebohile Mofokeng will leave Orlando Pirates this winter
The boy from Sharpeville has the world at his feet – and boy, do they want him.
Several clubs have inquired, including Barcelona FC and Glasgow Rangers, and most recently, Al Ahly and Zamalek FC, who had their R25.8 million mid-season bid rejected during the summer window.
The Buccaneers have done all they can to keep hold of their starboy, but everyone has a price (especially in soccer), and it appears Orlando Pirates' is around R31.2 million, plus a selling-on percentage, which has been known to materialise lucrative returns.
'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' SoccerLaduma confirmed.
The fact that Orlando Pirates have placed a valuation on Mofokeng suggests that they're willing to listen to offers, increasing the likelihood of an offseason exit.
Late last year Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos predicted that last season would be Mofokeng's last with Orlando Pirates, a belief that the player's father hopes will become reality.
'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said.
[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' say's the Orlando Pirates' player's father.
'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.'

'I just trained with him!' – Coach shocked by Appollis' Pirates switch
Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe is in disbelief after learning that his star player, Oswin Appollis, has joined Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, shocking many fans. Appollis, a Bafana Bafana player, had been heavily linked to Kaizer Chiefs for over a year, but no deal ever materialised. Upon hearing that Appollis had been sold, the City coach noted that the player had trained with the club on Tuesday before Pirates made the announcement. 'My man, I don't know if that is true or what. When did he join Orlando Pirates because I have just left training and I was with him at training?' Mohafe told 'So I don't know… when did he join Pirates? 'But I'm not shocked, maybe a bit surprised because you will never know what's happening during the night.' 'So, I will only believe the news about Appollis when I don't see him at training. When the boss tells me I will no longer see Appollis at training, that's when I will believe he is gone. That's the only time I will accept the decision. 'But again, already last season I had players who are better than Appollis but were not playing. So, if he goes it's fine. It won't be a big loss,' Mohafe said. Appollis is Orlando Pirates' ninth season after the club announced eight new players last week. Orlando Pirates news: Kaizer Chiefs sniped, R10 million midfielder
Orlando Pirates have yet again beaten Kaizer Chiefs to a prized player. This time it's Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis. Both clubs tried to sign the 23-year-old in January and last offseason but were met with rejection on both occasions as Appollis continued to prove himself as one of South Africa's best. The second half of last season saw a decline in performance, and it is perhaps because of this why Rise and Shine were willing to let their main man go. According to reports, Orlando Pirates eyeing JS Kabylie midfielder Sadio Kanoute. 'According to Africafoot , the Soweto giants are considering tabling an offer in the region of €500,000 (approximately R10 million) to lure Kanoute, who previously turned out for Simba SC in Tanzania,' a SoccerLaduma report revealed. In other news, there is growing concern that Orlando Pirates may see their golden boy Relebohile Mofokeng leave this winter. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona?
