Red Star submit €4m offer for Rennes' Glen Kamara

Glen Kamara (29) is the subject of a bid from Serbian side Red Star Belgrade, according to a report from L'Équipe. The Finland international struggled following his €10m move from Leeds United, making 13 Ligue 1 appearances in the first half of the season. However, he failed to impress and was sent out on loan to Al-Shabab during the January transfer window. Advertisement That loan deal included a buy option, however, that option was not exercised by the Saudi club, and he has therefore returned to Brittany. However, the Finland international will not remain there for long. He is one of several players that Rennes are looking to offload. Kamara has attracted interest from Turkey, however, it is Serbian club Red Star Belgrade who have now made a concrete approach. That bid is worth €4m. Les Rennais are looking for a fee between €5-6m. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Cyriel Dessers Rangers transfer exit silence broken as AEK Athens boss directly addresses pursuit of striker

AEK boss Marko Nikolic has poured cold water over talk that Rangers frontman Cyriel Dessers could be on his way to Greece. Record Sport understands that while the Athens side are very keen on the Nigeria international - who has has shook hands on a £30,000 a week contract - the clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee. Advertisement Gers are hoping to make a profit on the £4.5million they shelled out to bring Dessers to Ibrox in 2023, where the number nine has scored 51 goals across the past two seasons. Advertisement Asked if a new attacker was on his immediate wishlist after Saturday's 6-0 friendly victory over FC De Westhoek, the Serbian responded: "No, because in attack we are good with Zini, Pierrot, Martial and even Eliasson. "We are working on the left-back, but we have time. Full-backs on the market are always a difficult matter. It is not a big issue, we are also looking for a player for another position." Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has been told he is free to leave Rennes this summer - according to a report. The Finland star joined the Ligue 1 side from Leeds United for £8.5million last July only to be shipped out on loan to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab six months later. Advertisement HommeduMatch claim that Rennes are planning a big clear out of the squad this summer after a disappointing league season where they finished the campaign in 12th place. Also on their reported transfer list is Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi, who made just six appearances in the French top tier following his £10million switch from Parkhead back in January. The Japan striker is said to be a target for English Championship new boys Birmingham City, while Premier League side Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest in the 30-year-old. Bassey made 65 appearances for Rangers before joining Ajax in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth around £20million. The 25-year-old had a season at the Eredivisie club before switching to Premier League side Fulham, where he has become a regular starter under Marco Silva. Glen Kamara played nearly 200 times for Rangers and then signed for Leeds United, but departed Elland Road after a season as the club missed out on promotion to the Premier League. He joined French club Rennes last summer in a multi-million pound deal, but six months later was told he was surplus to requirements. The 29-year-old was sent out to Al-Shabab on loan and made 13 appearances for the Saudi Arabian side, who now have an option to buy him permanently. 4 Calvin Bassey and Glen Kamara pose with Kevin Thomson's sons Credit: Kevin Thomson on X It is highly unlikely the Nigeria and Finland internationals would return to Ibrox anytime soon, but it has not stopped fans asking the question. Rennes' Glen Kamara joins Al-Shabab on loan

Rennes midfielder Glen Kamara (29) has left Les Rouge et Noir to sign for Saudi Arabia side Al-Shabab on loan, both clubs have announced. The former Leeds midfielder only joined the Brittany Ligue 1 club last summer but – like Albert Grønbæk, Henrik Meister and Jota – he has decided to leave only six months after his arrival. The Finland international only featured 13 times this season. Kamara was notably axed from then-Rennes head coach Jorge Sampaoli's training squad after an embarrassing Coupe de France exit against Troyes. بأخر دقيقة نعلن رابع صفقاتنا 🔥واعذرونا على المونتاج 💸😅 — نادي الشباب السعودي (@AlShababSaudiFC) January 31, 2025 Kamara will spend the remainder of the 2024-2025 on loan to Saudi Pro League Riyad-based side Al-Shabab. Kamara's loan move includes an option to make his move permanent. Southampton, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough reportedly offered Kamara a way back into English football. With Kamara and Baptiste Santamaria all departed on loan, Rennes are expected to step up their pursuit of a midfielder with Hellas Verona's Reda Belahyane a reported target for the Bretons.
