Bob Vylan dropped from European tour after Glastonbury controversy

Bob Vylan has been dropped from a European tour after the controversy caused by their performance at the Glastonbury festival. The British punk-rap duo were accused of anti-Semitism after leading chants of 'death, death to the IDF', referring to the Israeli army, and 'free, free Palestine' at this year's festival. Now, the group has been 'removed' from supporting Gogol Bordello, a Ukranian-American band, on their 37-date European tour across 13 venues. 'In the aftermath, we needed to evaluate the situation, and we decided to remove BV from the tour until we could fully comprehend the situation,' said Gogol Bordello. Bob Vylan had already been taken off the bill for all of Gogol Bordello's shows in Germany last week after Cologne's Live Music Hall refused to let them perform. A headline festival appearance in Manchester and another festival performance in France have also been cancelled. 'Logistical complications' Last week, masked protestors in Amsterdam threatened to riot if Bob Vylan performed before Gogol Bordello at the city's Paradiso venue in September. Bob Vylan, in a separate statement, blamed 'logistical complications'. 'Due to logistical complications, we have decided not to join our friends Gogol Bordello on their upcoming European tour,' Bob Vylan said in a statement. 'However, we will be heading to Europe in the coming months for both festivals and headline shows.' Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Society, had called for a ban on what best-selling tabloid Bild called 'hate musicians'. 'People like that disrupt security and order in our country; they have no business being here,' he said before the German concerts were cancelled. Not welcome in Amsterdam Dutch police launched an investigation after two masked men held up a banner outside Amsterdam's Paradiso venue. It read 'If Bob Vylan plays that night/ Amsterdam will stand and fight.' Paradiso had said the concert would go ahead with extra security precautions before the decision was taken to drop Bob Vylan from the whole tour. Bob Vylan's Glastonbury appearance sparked anger in Britain and a criminal investigation was launched into the chanting, which Sir Keir Starmer called 'appalling'. The BBC apologised for not pulling the livestream of the performance, which is no longer available on the iPlayer platform. Tim Davie, director-general of the BBC, has blamed staff for not cutting the broadcast. He told Parliament's culture, media and sport committee on Monday that ending the livestream was an 'option open to those on the ground on the day', but that they had not taken action. Pascal Robinson-Foster, the frontman for Bob Vylan, told fans that they could get him into 'trouble' after they began chanting 'death, death to the IDF' at a London surprise gig on Wednesday night.

Bob Vylan removed from European tour over controversial Glastonbury performance

Weeks on from their Glastonbury set, Bob Vylan are still facing backlash for their controversial chanting of 'death to the IDF'. The chant, amid others supporting Palestine, has become the focal point of a political storm, with an investigation by the police as well as Glastonbury and the BBC condemning their performance. Now, the band – consisting of Bobby and Bobbie Vylan – have 'decided not to join' Gogol Bordello on their European tour over the next few months. The He's A Man singer wrote: 'Due to logistical complications, we have decided not to join our friends Gogol Bordello on their upcoming European tour. 'However, we will be heading to Europe in the coming months for both festivals and headlining shows.' Gogol Bordello painted a far more detailed picture of the situation and highlighted that this was 'not our decision' and beyond their control. The punk rockers said: 'Following Bob Vylan's Glastonbury performance, their shows with Gogol Bordello were cancelled by the promoter and venues in Germany. 'The decision to remove them from the bill was not our decision and beyond our control. In the aftermath, we needed to evaluate the situation, and we decided to remove BV from the tour until we could fully comprehend the situation.' While they noted that 'a conversation was re-opened' to bring the band on tour, it became 'logistically impossible' given the circumstances surrounding Bob Vylan. 'We worked diligently together with our friends Bob Vylan to find a solution but in the end it didn't work out,' they added. The Start Wearing Purple singers concluded: 'Gogol Bordello is comprised of members from various nationalities and celebrates international understanding consequentially, we value freedom of speech from all perspectives.' This isn't the only gig the We Live Here rappers have been removed from, with their US visas revoked ahead of their tour. A senior State Department official told The Daily Caller: 'The Trump Administration, the U.S. government will not issue visas to any foreigner who supports terrorists.' In their first post-Glastonbury performance in London, Bobby Vylan – real name Pascal Robinson-Foster – told the crowd to stop with the IDF chant. The IDF is the Israeli Defence Force, a conscripted army which comes with a three-month jail sentence for anyone who does not join. 'You are going to get me in trouble,' he told the crowd at The 100 before leading them instead in a chant of 'Free, free Palestine'. 'We never ever could have imagined that we would create a conversation that needed to be created and needed to be had,' he continued. More Trending 'They have been trying to silence us, they thought that this would shut us up, but the album is back in the charts. At a more recent show in Bristol's Thekla, he addressed the continuing controversy and shared: 'I am not just a rabble rousing troublemaker, alright?' Bobby explained that he has an undergraduate degree, finishing top of his class with a partial scholarship for his masters – which he finished in 'one year instead of two'. 'This is a gentleman that was unfortunately removed from school very early and left with few, if any GCSEs,' Bobby explained. 'I personally have turned my life around.' Got a story? Bob Vylan dropped from Gogol Bordello European tour

Bob Vylan have been pulled from Gogol Bordello's European tour. The punk rap duo have faced backlash over their controversial performance at Glastonbury Festival - during which the 34-year-old singer led the crowd in a chant of 'death, death to the IDF' during their set - and they will no longer be supporting the band. Bob Vylan wrote in a statement on Instagram: "Due to logistical complications, we have decided not to join our friends Gogol Bordello on their upcoming European tour. "However, we will be heading to Europe in the coming months for both festivals and headline shows.' In the caption, they teased: "Keep posted for headline EU announcements soon." Initially, the promoter and venues in Germany removed Bob Vylan from the lineup, which Gogol Bordello has insisted was "not our decision and beyond our control". They added on social media: "In the aftermath, we needed to evaluate the situation, and we decided to remove BV from the tour until we could fully comprehend the situation. "After Bob Vylan posted a more in-depth explanation, a conversation was re-opened to explore their ability to be on other tour dates. "Unfortunately, it is logistically impossible for BV to participate on the tour given the circumstances. "We worked diligently with our friends Bob Vylan to find a solution but in the end it didn't work out. "Gogol Bordello is comprised of members from various nationalities and celebrates international understanding consequentially, we value freedom of speech from all perspectives.' Bob Vylan appeared on the West Holts stage at Glastonbury just before Kneecap, another controversial act. The BBC, which live-streamed the performance, has also come under scrutiny after it emerged that its director general, 57-year-old Tim Davie, was in attendance and consulted on how to handle the broadcast. Following the initial backlash to their Glastonbury set, Bob Vylan wrote on Instagram: "We are not the first. We will not be the last. 'We are being targeted for speaking up.' They added in a lengthier statement that they are not for the death of any "race or group of people". They continued: "We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction.'

It comes after the frontman of the punk rap duo, Bob Vylan, led crowds in chants of 'death, death to the IDF (Israeli Military Force)' during their set at the Somerset music festival. Police have since launched an investigation into the group with the BBC issuing an apology for the livestream and promising to no longer broadcast live acts they deem 'high risk'. In a letter responding to questions sent by Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, chairwoman of the Culture Media and Sport Committee, the director-general of the BBC, Tim Davie said: 'Cutting the livestream was an option open to those on the ground on the day. 'There were 550 personnel working for the BBC at Glastonbury. Of these 328 were working for BBC Studios (camera crew, rigging, technical and production roles), 35 providing coverage for BBC News, and 187 other BBC public service, working across a wide range of roles, including technical crew, producers, presenters, engineers, runners, commissioners and compliance staff.' He added: 'There were failures in our coverage which led to offensive content being broadcast live. I deeply regret that such deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC and want to apologise to our viewers and listeners and in particular the Jewish community. 'In considering what to learn from this, my immediate priority was to take swift actions, as detailed above, to mitigate against anything similar happening in the future. 'At the same time we are taking actions to ensure there is proper accountability for those found to be responsible for the failings in the live broadcast; and we are urgently reviewing our guidelines to see if any further measures are needed.' Since their Glastonbury set, Bob Vylan, made up of frontman Bobby Vylan, whose real name is reportedly Pascal Robinson-Foster, and drummer Bobbie Vylan, have reportedly been dropped by their agency, United Talent Agency (UTA), which appears to have removed the group from their website, and have also been pulled from a number of concerts – including their US tour after having their visas revoked. The group announced on Monday, in a post on Instagram, that they were unable to join rock band, Gogol Bordello, on their European Tour. The statement said: 'Due to logistical complications, we have decided not to join our friends Gogol Bordello on their upcoming European Tour. However, we will be heading to Europe in the coming months for both festivals and headline shows.' It comes after the group performed a sold-out gig in London last week where Bobby Vylan said: 'We are a loving band, we love you lot for being here with us. We love the Palestinian people. 'Their strength, their resilience, their ability to keep on going in the face of it all is a beautiful and inspiring thing. 'So as hard as this week may have been for us, it has been nothing in comparison to what the Palestinian people are going through right now.'
