Scott Hanson's ‘NFL RedZone' contract talks were ‘a knockdown drag-out negotiation'
'Seven hours of commercial-free football' nearly had a different voice for next season. Scott Hanson, the host of 'NFL RedZone,' questioned if he would return to his role before signing an extension to return for a 17th year. 'There was a time when I thought 'I don't know if this is going to happen,'' Hanson said on the 'SI Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina' this week. 'It was not my intention to have it go that direction. But you have to be willing for that eventuality or that possibility.' Advertisement 3 Scott Hanson at Super Bowl LI AP While Hanson did not share the financial details of his new contract, he confirmed that his extension will have him be the face of NFL Network's 'RedZone,' in which he shows live look-ins and every touchdown for seven-plus straight hours on Sundays though at least his 20th season. The negotiations weren't easy, though, with Hanson likening himself to an NFL free agent who wants to stay with his current team even as other landing spots see his true value. Advertisement 'The NFL, as they wont to do, they are very tough negotiators,' Hanson said. 'There was quite a knockdown drag-out negotiation, but I'm thrilled to be back. Thrilled that we were able to come to an agreement.' Advertisement 'My contract was up, that was reported in public. It was coming up, and we were negotiating. That was true,' he said, 'There was a feel I was going to leave for NBC. Well, it was conflated with what I did with GoldZone for the Paris Olympics last summer, and the fact that I was and we were in the middle of a negotiation with NBC to come back and do future GoldZones. Scott Hanson announces he will continue to host NFL RedZone
Scott Hanson, the longtime host of NFL's RedZone Channel, has confirmed that he will be back in 2025. Hanson, whose old contract with NFL Media expired after the 2024 season, announced today that he has agreed to return this year. In a social media post noting that the first Sunday of the NFL season is 100 days away, Hanson added, 'for those wondering: Yes, I *will* be there. We have A LOT of Touchdowns to watch together!' Hanson has long used the catchphrase, 'Seven hours of commercial-free football,' as RedZone is kicking off, but last season he issued an apology when NFL Media made that statement untrue by selling commercials during one RedZone broadcast. The NFL has not said whether any commercials will air on RedZone in 2025. Hanson will also continue to host Peacock's Gold Zone coverage during the Olympics. Much like RedZone, Gold Zone goes live to the biggest events at any given time during the Olympics. Gold Zone gained much acclaim during the 2024 Summer Olympics and will be back in February for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

John McEnroe, Patrick McEnroe Team Up for French Open 'MacZone' for Warner
The Manning brothers aren't the only sibling duo hoping to make a splash with unfettered game commentary. Tennis greats John and Patrick McEnroe will hold forth during Warner Bros. Discovery's coverage of the French Open, most of which will be featured on the TNT cable network. The McEnroe brothers will host a special spotlight show as part of 'whip-around' coverage on truTV during each afternoon of the first few days of the tournament, which is making its way to Warner Bros. 'Whip-around' sports coverage, identified most closely with the NFL's premium RedZone subscription service, is gaining new traction. NBCUniversal offered a 'GoldZone' whip-around show to help Peacock subscribers navigate around hours of Paris Summer Olympics offerings, and intends to bring the concept back in 2026 for coverage of the Winter Olympics in Milan. CBS News has offered a streaming 'whip-around' program that takes viewers to breaking news events as they are covered by staffers at its various local stations. The McEnroe brothers should be lively. John McEnroe, not known for being shy about his feelings on tennis, has won more than 150 combined singles and doubles titles, including 17 combined Grand slam titles. Patrick McEnroe won 17 singles and doubles titles in his tennis career, and serves as president of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Uche Ojeh, the husband of NBC Today co-anchor Sheinelle Jones, has died at age 45 after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer. The news was announced on the NBC morning show Friday. He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline every soccer game. He was at all the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy.' Jones has been on a leave of absence from the NBC morning show since December, and said in January that she was taking leave to deal with a family health matter. Jones has been with the Today show for more than a decade, joining the morning program's weekend edition in 2014. She was named co-host of the show's third hour in 2019, where she worked alongside Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin and other talent from the program and NBC News. Jones married Ojeh in 2007 after meeting at Northwestern University, where Jones was a freshman giving tours and Ojeh was a visiting high school senior. Ojeh proposed on the school's campus.
