LIV Golf star who brutally sacked caddie and coach secures lucrative £3m payout
Joaquin Niemann lifted his fifth LIV Golf title of the season at the JCB Golf and Country Club on Sunday, bouncing back after sacking his coach and caddie following a poor performance at The Open Joaquin Niemann won the LIV Golf UK title on Sunday after firing his coach and caddie. Having failed to make the cut at The Open Championship a little over a week ago, Niemann bounced back with a vengeance at JCB Golf and Country Club. The Torque GC captain shot an impressive six-under-par 66 in the opening round and bettered that with a 64 on Saturday. Sunday saw the star hit a weekend high round of 68, but was still able to finish three strokes clear of runner-up Bubba Watson with a total score of 17-under. Following his disappointment last Friday, the Chilean golfer made several changes before arriving at JCB last week. In a significant move, Niemann recently parted ways with his long-time caddie, Gary Matthews, and coach, Eduardo Miquel, reports the Irish Star. Reflecting on the changes within his team after his second round on Saturday, Niemann said: "I'd say it's been a little weird the last two, three weeks. There have obviously been a few movements on my team. "At the same time, it is what it is. I'm really grateful for them, for the two people that they are not working with me anymore on the team, but it's part of it. "I feel like I was pretty frustrated at the beginning of this week after a bad result, obviously, at The Open as well, and all the rest kind of going on. I feel like... not low, but I wasn't, like, going on the golf course going into this week, I wasn't feeling that confident at all. "I think it was just keep doing the same work that I'm used to and keep working with my team and why we work every time, stay positive with myself." Niemann has been streets ahead of his rivals on the LIV circuit, securing five wins in 11 outings this season. And his win on Sunday in Rocester landed him an impressive £2.9million payday for his efforts. Having recorded just one bogey across his opening six holes, Niemann's recent behind-the-scenes tweaks seem to have caused no harm to his bid for the league's individual title in 2025, keeping him ahead of Jon Rahm. Speaking about his victory in the UK, Niemann said: "Obviously I want to win the season. I think there is a lot of golf to play yet. Jon, we know how good of a player he is, also Bryson [DeChambeau]. "There is not much I can think about other than worry about what I'm doing, how I can improve and get better and play my best golf for the next two weeks. I feel like that's all I'm worrying about right now." Two singles events remain on the LIV Golf calendar this season. The breakaway circuit lands at the Bolingbrook Golf Club for LIV Golf Chicago between August 8 and 10, before LIV Golf Indianapolis plays out at The Club at Chatham Hills a week later. The LIV Golf Team Championship then takes place at The Cardinal at Saint John's, Michigan, between August 22 and 24.

After firing coach and caddie, Joaquin Niemann runs away with 2025 LIV Golf UK title
Joaquin Niemann started the week by firing his caddie and coach after missing the cut at the 2025 Open Championship. He ended it in a similar fashion to how he has four other LIV Golf events this season: on top. Niemann won for the fifth time in 2025, running away with the title at LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf and Country Club. He finished at 17-under 196 for the week, beating Bubba Watson by three shots for the title. It's another $4 million payday for Niemann, who increases his lead on top of the LIV Golf individual standings with only two events left in the season, coming in Chicago and Indianapolis. LIV Golf's season finale in Michigan is the team championship. Watson made a run at Niemann in the latter stages of the final round, going 8 under in a six-hole stretch that included a pair of eagles on par 5s. He was within two shots of Niemann with four holes to play but bogeyed the par-4 15th when Niemann made birdie, and the lead was back to four with three holes to go. Watson's second-place finish was his best since joining LIV Golf. Caleb Surratt had his first podium finish for LIV Golf, placing third at 13 under.

LIV Golf UK: Joaquin Niemann, Torque GC Take Control in Round 2
ROCESTER, England – On Saturday, Joaquin Niemann took complete control of LIV Golf UK. The Torque GC captain shot an 8-under 63 to open up a commanding 6-shot lead. Niemann, who is 14-under through two rounds, shot 30 on the front nine, which is the lowest front nine score recorded at JCB Country Club across the five rounds played during LIV Golf events. His 63 was the lowest round of the day. The Chilean is aiming to win his fifth LIV Golf tournament of the season and seventh overall, both of which would be LIV Golf records. Torque GC leapt to the top of the team leaderboard and will enter Championship Sunday leading Legion XIII by three shots. Chasing Niemann on Sunday will be Bubba Watson, who is putting an impressive week together. The RangeGoats GC captain shot a 3-under 68 to reach 8-under for the tournament, good for solo second place. One shot behind Watson at 7-under are Paul Casey (3-under 68), who is now the leading Englishman through two rounds at JCB, Adrian Meronk (1-under 70), who struggled to get much going in Round 2 and Caleb Surratt (3-under 68). Surratt, LIV Golf's youngest player, continues to play well after going low in the final round at Valderrama, a performance that helped Legion XIII win the team title. Talor Gooch of Smash GC also climbed the leaderboard with a 5-under 66, and is 6-under for the tournament, which puts him in a tie for sixth alongside four other players: Charles Howell III of Crushers GC, Tom McKibbin of Legion XIII, Carlos Ortiz of Torque GC and Marc Leishman of Ripper GC. Lee Westwood of Majesticks GC couldn't get much going on Saturday. The fan-favorite shot a 1-over 72 and slipped to T14 on the leaderboard. Niemann's domination, supplemented by Carlos Ortiz' rounds of 66-70, vaulted Torque GC to the top of the team leaderboard. Sebastian Munoz also played extremely well on Saturday, shooting a 5-under 66. Mito Pereira shot a 1-over 72 after an even par 71 in Round 1. Torque is looking for their first win since LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023. Torque GC holds a three-stroke lead over Legion XIII, who are looking to win for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season. The home team, Majesticks GC, is now ninth on the team leaderboard as it seeks to earn its first podium finish since 2022. JCB played much more difficult in Round 2 than it did in Round 1, with a course scoring average of –0.36 compared to yesterday's –1.27. In addition to the final stretch of holes 15–18, holes 4, 6,7 and 8 played over par, with 6 once again playing as the most difficult (+0.33). TEAM SCORES LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. Here are the scores and final results after Saturday's Round 2 at LIV Golf UK. This piece is courtesy of Mike McAllister in partnership with LIV Golf . Is Graeme McDowell ready for a TV career? First, he's working some magic at LIV Golf UK
Graeme McDowell has just a single top-10 finish on the LIV Golf circuit this year, and he admitted to the British golf site Bunkered that he's seriously considering a dive into the media world if his playing days on the fledgling league are coming to a close. In fact, after a week on the microphone for Sky Sports and the R&A's 'World Feed' coverage during the 2025 Open Championship at Portrush, McDowell said his appetite has officially been whetted. "Is there any TV in my future? Potentially, when I'm done playing golf, it was always something that I wanted to dip my toe into to see if I liked it. And last week was a way to have a little chip at it and see if there's anything there," he told Bunkered. 'First and foremost. I mean, I gained a definite appreciation for the skill level involved in being very, very good at it, you know, surrounded by guys like, you know, Ewan Murray and Nick Dougherty and Andrew Cotter and Ken Brown." McDowell is back on the other side of the mic this week at LIV Golf UK, where he pulled off a masterful shot during Friday's opening round. After finding some thick stuff on the par-4 11th hole at JCB Golf & Country Club, the 2010 U.S. Open winner showed his creativity around the greens as he pitched a ball up on a slope and brought it back down inches from the cup. Now 45, McDowell signed a one-year deal with Smash GC, Brooks Koepka's squad, but he's on the outside looking in for next year, in terms of relegation. The Northern Irishman is 32nd in the LIV standings and he needs to get into the top 24 in the next three events to secure a spot for 2026. Understandably, he's keeping his future options open. 'Say I was done with LIV at the end of this year and I got unceremoniously dumped out, what would I do? Would I go back to the European Tour for a year, take up a year's membership and one of my exemptions there? Or would I make the jump into the media world?' McDowell told Bunkered. 'It would really just depend on how I feel, how I feel my game is, how my health is, what the world would look like from a media point of view." "I'll continue to talk to some of these media outlets and maybe do a little training on the side, you know, just to get myself ready. I feel like I know a lot of these guys very well and I understand the sport. I'd give it a go for a year or two just to see if I like it. 'I've never had a real job before, so I'm not sure how I'd handle it.'

The real reason Bryson DeChambeau has a new (old) caddie this week and what it means
Bryson DeChambeau has a familiar face on the bag this week at LIV Golf UK outside of London in Tim Tucker. But don't read too much into it about DeChambeau joining the current trend of players making caddie changes. DeChambeau's caddie, Greg Bodine, is receiving a scheduled week off to avoid a three-week international stretch away from his wife and kids. 'He gives me a week or two off a year to avoid three weeks in a row internationally,' Bodine told Golfweek last week at the British Open. 'I had India and will have the UK off. Sixteen out of 18 weeks is perfect for me.' This isn't the first time that Tucker has filled in for Bodine, either. He did so at LIV's London event in 2023 after the British Open at Liverpool, too. DeChambeau is in a busy stretch (for him) of playing LIV Golf Spain at Valderrama, the 153rd Open in Northern Ireland and this week's LIV UK event, which starts Friday. DeChambeau is one of the hardest-working players, known to shut down a range well after darkness and demands the same commitment from his caddie. His willingness to give Bodine an off week paints him as an understanding and reasonable boss. 'I have a wife and a couple of kids back home so if I can go three weeks without being gone that long it's nice that Tim can step in and Bryson's given me a week or two break here or there,' Bodine said. Tucker, who previously caddied for DeChambeau for nearly five years including during his first U.S. Open title in 2020, split with DeChambeau in June 2021 on the eve of the Rocket Classic, where he was the defending champion. At the time, Tucker said he left to focus on his luxury shuttle service at Bandon Dunes but he was lured back to caddying on the PGA Tour. He had been on the bag of Kurt Kitayama, including when he won his lone Tour title at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tucker last worked for Kitayama at the John Deere Classic, where he finished T-4. Kitayama was in the field at last week's Barracuda Championship and had his older brother, Daniel, on the bag, and was expected to have his brother working for him again this week at the 3M Open. Tucker confirmed via text that they had parted ways and that he was simply spelling Bodine this week. He added, 'then I will see what opportunities there are in the caddie world.' Tucker isn't the only caddie reuniting with a former bagman. Paul Tesori, who caddied for Webb Simpson for more than a decade including at the 2012 U.S. Open, will be back on the bag for his old boss at the 3M Open. Tesori, who split last month with Tom Kim, posted on social media that he, too, would be back for one week and one week only. "Reunited and it feels so good," he wrote.
