Beloved ITV crime series AXED after a whopping 11 years on screens as bosses mark 'the end of a golden chapter for drama'
ITV has confirmed that one of its most beloved dramas has been cancelled after 11 series on air in a move that will devastate fans. The broadcaster has confirmed Grantchester will officially come to an end as the 11th instalment kicks off filming. Making its debut in 2014, the show, which also airs on PBS in America, stars Robson Green as Geordie alongside Rishi Nair as Alphy. Confirming the show's end, Daisy Coulam, writer, series creator and executive producer, said: 'At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. 'We've been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen. For over a decade now - cast and crew (many who've been there since the beginning) have met each Summer to film. 'And it's been an absolute joy. Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters. Thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester. The broadcaster has confirmed Grantchester will officially come to an end as the 11th instalment kicks off filming 'Thank you to everyone who's been a part of the show in any way - big or small. I'll miss you terribly.' An ITV spokesperson confirmed filming has kicked off the final ever episodes and fans can see them next year. They've also revealed Al Weaver and Tessa Peake-Jones will reprise their roles as Leonard Finch and Mrs. C, as well as Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Bradley Hall as DC Larry Peters and Melissa Johns as Miss Scott. Paying tribute to Grantchester, Robson said: 'From the very beginning, I have had the incredible fortune to be part of this extraordinary team of talented, passionate, and dedicated individuals who have become more than colleagues. They have become family. I have made friendships forged through shared laughter, challenges, and triumphs. The bonds we've formed extend far beyond the camera lens, and I know that they will endure long after the final scene within the Grantchester world has been filmed. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey. He comes to realize that there is a whole other life he could have led, making him question who he is and what he believes in. He's also continuing to get to know Meg, the Bishop's daughter. ITV announces hit drama is ending after 11 years on TV – and filming has already started on final series
ITV has confirmed that one of its most popular TV drama's is to end after 11 years on screens. Fans of Grantchester look set to be bitterly disappointed as the broadcaster confirmed the show will be over with its upcoming eleventh and final series. 4 4 Filming for the final episodes has already kicked off with an air date for its final ever run set to be announced in due course. Former Hollyoaks actor Rishi Nair will return as handsome vicar Alphy Kottaram for the final series. Rishi will be joined by Robson Greene who is back as Geordie alongside Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating and Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe. Current lead star Rishi joined the show in 2024 for its ninth series and will have appeared in three series total before it draws to a conclusion. He replaced Tom Brittney in the role who played the show's vicar for four years. Tom himself took over from actor James Norton who was one of the show's first stars. Confirming the end of the much-loved show, the series' creator and writer, Daisy Coulam, said: 'At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. "We've been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen. "For over a decade now - cast and crew (many who've been there since the beginning) have met each Summer to film. Speaking about his time on the programme and it's impending exit, actor Rishi said: 'It's been the greatest honour to step into the world of Grantchester and be part of a show with so much heart. "Over two seasons—and now as we begin filming our third—I've had the privilege of telling stories that mean so much to so many, and I'm deeply thankful for that. "As we begin filming this final chapter, I do so with a full heart and endless gratitude—for the memories, the friendships, and the incredible journey we've shared. "To the entire cast and crew—thank you for your unwavering support, love, and warmth that you all bring onto set every day. "Working alongside you all, and more importantly getting to know you, has been a true privilege and joy.' Grantchester first launched on ITV in 2014. The series was initially based on The Grantchester Mysteries, a series of short stories written by James Runcie. The show's ratings have been in steady decline since 2014 with the first series averaging just under seven million viewers. The most recent series claimed just half of that with 3.2million people on average tuning in each week. 4 4
