Saii Hotels & Resorts' new chapter

Saii Hotels & Resorts, the lifestyle hospitality brand under S Hotels & Resorts, recently announced its official relaunch, introducing a refreshed brand identity and a new motto of 'Peace Of Mind Is The Ultimate Luxury". Saii, stylised as SAii, started in September 2019 with the launch of Saii Lagoon Maldives. There are four Saii properties in Thailand: Saii Laguna Phuket, Saii Phi Phi Island Village and adult-only Saii Koh Samui Villas. Saii 's new chapter is evident at Saii Laguna Phuket, which underwent a complete renovation and launched its first Saii Spa. The three-storey buildings boast spacious rooms and suites with lagoon views, ocean views or ocean front. Their five F&B outlets — Terra&Mar, The Club, Miss Olive Oyl, bean & Co and Mr Tomyam — offer different dining experiences throughout the day. The breakfast service at Terra&Mar is expansive, with the highlights being southern delicacies such as Bai liang pad khai and Moo hong. Built over a lake, The Club is for Club and Suite level guests to enjoy various perks throughout the day, from breakfast service (albeit not as expansive as Terra&Mar) to sundowners. Get pampered in a private room or a foot massage on a recliner at Saii Spa. Saii's new brand identity is aimed towards intentional travellers and emphasises personal wellbeing and local connections through the launch of six signatures. They are: • Saii Local Gurus – Friendly, on-the-ground experts who help guests discover hidden gems and local favourites to make their stays personal and authentic. • Saii Wellness Gurus – Wellness professionals, who offer personalised care for mind, body and spirit through yoga or spa sessions. • Sensory Lobbies – Calming, light-filled spaces that greet guests with tranquil scents, soft textures and natural elements for ease upon arrival. • EQ Check-in – A choice between check-in via the Saii Resorts & Hotels app (not Saii Resorts, which is no longer in use) or a personal welcome from the staff. The app comes in handy during your stay as it allows you to browse through the Saii offerrings at your fingertips. • Digital Detox – Guests are invited to unplug to truly reconnect with nature, themselves and their companions, while their gadgets are securely stored and charged for them. • Fresh, Healthy, Happy – A dining concept celebrating the sustainably-sourced ingredients, prepared to nourish the body and mind. As expected from a modern hospitality brand, Saii is also committed to sustainability and community-focused travel. In addition to receiving the Green Globe certification, Saii properties in Phuket and the Maldives were the first to receive the EIC (Environmental Impact Certification) by The Events Industry Council. Their other green initiatives include single-use plastic elimination, carbon emission reduction, marine conservation (case in point, Saii Phi Phi Island Village's Marine Discovery Centre) and collaborating with local artisans and producers to support regional economies.

This Genius Eco Travel Hack In Varanasi Will Change How You See India Forever

Varanasi is one of the oldest cities still occupied. It is revered for its Ganges river as well as its temples and rich culture and Varanasi draws a lot of tourists every year. In recent years however, there has been a push for sustainable travel practices in Varanasi and while developing green tourism has its own challenges, it is extremely important. Here's how to reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy Varanasi. 1. Choose Sustainable Accommodation While in Varanasi, consider staying in eco hotels or eco friendly homestays. A lot of accommodation options nowadays are powered by renewable sources of energy like solar power, conserve water, and do not use single use plastics. When selecting your accommodation, check if they have certifications like LEED or Green Globe. Staying with local families in guesthouses will also benefit the community and will greatly reduce the impact that large hotel chains have on the environment. 2. Travel Responsibly In order to get to Varanasi, one must first consider his or her carbon footprint. If possible, use the train rather than a flight as trains have much less emissions than planes do. When one arrives in the city, make sure to get around via cycle rickshaws, walking tours, or even by electric vehicles. These options are eco-friendly and allow you to enjoy the city's beauty at the same time. Try and avoid hiring private cars for your Varanasi stay as they contribute to pollution and traffic jams. These modes of private transport should only be used as a last resort. 3. Respect Local Culture and Traditions As noted earlier, Varanasi has a rich history that is intertwined with the Hindu religion and it has to be respected in order to promote ethical travel. Dress appropriately when near places of worship and always seek consent before taking key shots of people and ceremonies. Taking note of local traditions and customs is one way to ensure the city can retain its heritage. Supporting locals by buying handmade goods like Banarasi silk sarees and wooden crafts is another way to ensure ethical purchasing. These actions also tackle the issue of overdependence on mass-produced products and promote sustainable livelihoods. 4. Reduce Plastic Use Every space of Varanasi is polluted with plastic and this is a huge concern for India as a whole. To help with the battle, use reusable water bottles, shopping bags, and utensils. Get water from trustworthy filtration stations or buy a portable water purifier. While dining, select restaurants that sell food in biodegradable or environmentally friendly containers. Make sure to motivate everyone in the group so that waste reduction during the trip can be achieved together. 5. Get Involved With Eco-Friendly Activities As an eco-friendly tourist hub, Varanasi has a lot to offer. For example, take a lecture on the historical importance of the ghats and partake in a walking tour that contributes to eco-tourism. You may as well assist NGOs active in protecting the Ganges and take part in river clean-ups. From here you have the option of traveling to Sarnath, an archeological site of Buddhist monuments nearby, where you can enjoy history and nature at the same time. 6. Aid Programs That Are Out To Sanitize The Ganga Like many rivers, the Ganges River holds special religious significance which therefore means it should be protected from the sewage, littering, industrial waste, and other pollutants that endanger its beauty. Participating as a responsible traveler means doing your part in cleaning the river. Sponsor organizations like the Namami Gange Programme that works to revitalize the Ganges River. Alternatively, one can volunteer with local organizations that do awareness campaigns, river banks, tree plantations, or other initiatives. 7. Buy Food From Local Venders Every trip comes with memorable food experiences, and purchasing food from Varanasi comes with the bonus of supporting the local community and being sustainable. In Varanasi, tourists should sample vegetarian cuisines which use vegetables from local farms. Snacks such as chaat, samosas, and lassi are commonly sold by street vendors and taste better when produced with local ingredients, which also helps reduce the carbon footprint. Remember to always prioritize your health and only consume local hygienic food. Bonus Tip: Self Reflection and Sharing Take the time to research Varanasi's unique ecosystem, its struggles, and the current preservation efforts before stepping foot into the city. Spreading this information can help fellow tourists understand its significance and adopt eco-friendly practices. Social media is a great medium to promote sustainable tourism – use it to underscore the good things that are being done in the city. Final Thoughts Every eco-conscious trip begins with a plan. In Varanasi, this first step entails purposefully and strategically minimizing your impact on the environment. From making eco-friendly accommodation choices to engaging with local businesses and aiding in their conservation efforts, every decision matters. Sustainable tourism increases the quality of the trip for the traveler and helps to protect the cultural heritage and natural beauty of Varanasi for the future. So grab your suitcase, step lightly, and responsibly delve into the unchanging beauty of this holy place.

OZEN LIFE MAADHOO Achieves Green Globe Gold Certification for Long-Term Sustainability Efforts in the Maldives

OZEN LIFE MAADHOO in the Maldives earns Green Globe Gold certification for 5+ years of sustainable efforts, including coral restoration and hydroponic farming. 'At OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, from reef restoration to waste reduction.'— Malin Elisabeth Alleyne, General Manager of OZEN LIFE MAADHOO SANTA MONICA, CA, UNITED STATES, June 19, 2025 / / -- Green Globe has awarded OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, a luxury resort in the Maldives, with Gold certification, validating over five years of continuous dedication to sustainable operations and environmental conservation. Nestled in the South Malé Atoll, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO offers an extraordinary blend of contemporary elegance and Maldivian charm, with overwater and beachfront villas overlooking turquoise lagoons and powder-soft beaches. By earning Gold certification, the resort has demonstrated a deep commitment to preserving the natural beauty of its surroundings through innovative and impactful initiatives. Sustainability is deeply embedded in the ethos of OZEN LIFE MAADHOO. The resort prioritizes environmental protection as a key focus of its sustainability efforts, working closely with NGO partners and educating guests. To restore and conserve the marine environment, the resort has launched a coral restoration and marine conservation project, with in-house marine biologists leading the regeneration of a 300-meter section of the house reef. The resort has installed 80 coral spider frames, nurturing over 2,000 coral fragments, and collaborates with renowned NGOs such as Manta Trust, Olive Ridley Project, Parley, and Miyaru NGO to identify and protect marine species. Additionally, the resort provides educational talks for guests to promote environmental awareness. Further enhancing its marine conservation efforts, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO engages in reef cleaning and coral propagation, while offering guests a unique opportunity to marvel at vibrant marine life at its underwater restaurant, Minus Six Meters. This immersive experience fosters a deep connection with nature and inspires guests to contribute to environmental preservation. To reduce carbon emissions, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO operates one of the largest floating solar panel systems in the Maldives. The resort's system includes 12 platforms with 720 solar panels and an additional 1,095 rooftop panels, collectively contributing to approximately 30% of the resort's total energy demand. The resort also conserves water by using a sewage treatment plant (STP) to treat and recycle water for use in its gardens. Additionally, the resort has installed aerators on taps to minimize wastage, and equipped showerheads in staff accommodations with extra filters to enhance water efficiency. OZEN LIFE MAADHOO has embraced a Zero Waste to Landfill initiative, significantly reducing its contribution to landfills by implementing advanced waste management technology that processes and reduces waste. The resort's automatic organic waste composter processes 2.5 to 3 tons of wet kitchen waste and converts it into 1.5 tons of fertilizer each week. To further reduce waste, the resort uses in-vessel shredders to convert garden clippings into organic compost and employs a glass bottle shredder, tin and cardboard compactor, and two incinerators to safely dispose of dry waste, producing ash that enriches compost. OZEN LIFE MAADHOO significantly reduces plastic waste on the island by recycling 75% of its waste and maintaining an in-house water bottling plant. Sustainable principles are evident in the resort's design, including the use of Cajdan roofing—a cooling green roof that blends seamlessly with the tropical surroundings—and solar panels that contribute to approximately 10% of the resort's energy consumption. Complementing its waste management initiatives, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO has introduced a hydroponic garden that supplies fresh, eco-friendly produce. The garden, located at the southern end of Maadhoo Island, contributes to sustainable dining by meeting up to 70% of the resort's lettuce needs. Using a soilless cultivation method, this system conserves water by reducing consumption from 250 liters per kilogram (traditional farming) to just 50 liters per kilogram. The garden produces a variety of fresh herbs and vegetables, ensuring an eco-conscious and flavorful dining experience. Reflecting on the resort's achievements, Malin Elisabeth Alleyne, General Manager of OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, expressed, 'At OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, from reef restoration to waste reduction. We believe these initiatives not only protect our beautiful marine environment but also inspire our guests and team members to be part of a greener future.' With Gold Green Globe certification, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO continues to raise the bar for luxury hospitality that seamlessly integrates environmental stewardship, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
