Actor Nivin Pauly, director Abrid Shine booked in cheating case: Filmmaker PS Shamnas alleges financial fraud
Picture Credit: X Malayalam star Nivin Pauly seems to have found himself in legal trouble as, according to the latest reports, the actor, along with filmmaker Abrid Shine, has been booked by the Thalayolaparambu police in Kerala following a complaint lodged by producer PS Shamnas. According to a Gulte report, an FIR has been registered against Nivin and Abrid under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC. Shamnas alleges that Nivin failed to fulfil financial commitments linked to their 2022 film 'Mahaveeryar', which incurred heavy losses at the box office. Allegations against Nivin Pauly According to Shamnas, Nivin had told him that he would repay him Rs 95 lakh as compensation for his losses and that he would make Shamnas a partner in his next film, 'Action Hero Biju 2', directed by Abrid Shine. Distribution deal dispute The producer went on to say that, following the assurances from Nivin and Abrid, he put an investment of nearly Rs 1.90 crore into 'Action Hero Biju 2'. However, according to Shamnas, Nivin and Abrid recently made a Rs 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based company and never informed him that they had been wrongfully representing the film as being produced by Nivin rather than Indian Movie Makers, which Shamnas had established and registered as the original production company. This alleged breach of trust led Shamnas to approach the authorities, resulting in the lodging of the FIR against both the actor and the director. Nivin Pauly responds Reacting to the allegations, Nivin Pauly has issued a statement clarifying that the dispute between the parties has been under arbitration since June 28. He revealed that a gag order has been placed to maintain confidentiality and stated that further legal action would be taken. Speaking of his work, Nivin Pauly is known for his roles in 'Premam' and 'Action Hero Biju'. He will be next seen in Sarvam Maya and another yet-untitled film where he stars alongside Mamitha Baiju.
