Kanwar pilgrims vandalise vehicle that hit them in Gzb
Ghaziabad: A group of kanwar pilgrims vandalised a car on the crowded Delhi-Meerut Road (NH-34) in Modinagar on Sunday after it allegedly hit a pilgrim resting by the roadside. The driver fled the scene, prompting the angry pilgrims to vandalise the vehicle. A video clip, possibly recorded by passersby and shared online, showed a few men, all pilgrims returning with Ganga water from Haridwar, using sticks and rods to smash the car's windows, with one man seen climbing onto the vehicle and kicking its windshield. Stones were also hurled at the vehicle. The clip showed a few policemen looking on as the group damaged the car. He was sitting on a road divider when the car brushed against him and spilt the holy water he carried. Modinagar ACP Gyan Prakash Rai said the car driver fled, abandoning the vehicle, after the incident. This apparently enraged the pilgrims. The officer said the driver was later identified as Ujagar Singh, a resident of Chhapraula in Noida. "A team has been formed to trace and arrest him. We suspect the car may be linked to an online cab service," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Birla Evara 3 and 4 BHK from ₹ 1.75 Crore* Birla Estates Learn More Undo Police managed to pacify the crowd and assured action against the accused. In a separate confrontation, kanwar pilgrims allegedly assaulted a bus driver travelling from Meerut to Ghaziabad after a passenger tossed a plastic bottle out of the window, which reportedly struck one of them. A police team reached the spot and managed to rescue the driver. "We are asking travellers not to throw waste from moving vehicles, especially during the kanwar yatra," a senior officer said. The two incidents come just days after a similar clash on July 8, when another group of pilgrims vandalised a Swift and assaulted its driver on the same highway, following a minor collision. Authorities have now dedicated one carriageway of NH-34 — from Meerut to Delhi — exclusively for the movement of kanwar pilgrims, in an attempt to avoid further altercations during the peak of the annual pilgrimage. The Delhi to Meerut arm of the speedway would be used for regular traffic for the period.

Ghaziabad: A group of Kanwar Yatra pilgrims allegedly vandalized a car and assaulted its 30-year-old driver in Ghaziabad's Modinagar on Tuesday, claiming the vehicle had hit their Kanwar (the sacred structure they carry) while returning from Haridwar. Police said the driver, Rajiv Sharma, was rescued from the mob, but his Swift car was badly damaged by the Kanwariyas (Representative photo) Police said the driver, Rajiv Sharma, was rescued from the mob, but his Swift car was badly damaged by the Kanwariyas. 'The incident happened late Tuesday night when Kanwariyas were returning from Haridwar and were headed to Haryana. It was alleged that the Swift car brushed aside one of the Kanwariyas, and this infuriated the group. They vandalized the car and also beat up the driver,' assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of the Modinagar circle, Gyan Prakash Rai, said. Sharma, a resident of Muradnagar, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and has been booked under Section 170 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Beaten up at police station in Ghaziabad, says man; cops claim drunk driving
Ghaziabad: A man has alleged he was assaulted at a police station on June 28 while picking up a friend arriving from Delhi. Police countered that the man was riding a bike without a number plate, failed to show documents, and misbehaved with officers. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that the man had consumed liquor, police said. In a video shared on social media, Hariom, a resident of Bulandshahr, claimed that he was stopped by police officers shortly after picking up a friend, who was coming from Delhi with cancer medication. He alleged that despite showing the necessary documents, the cops misbehaved with him and his friend. ACP (Modinagar) Gyan Prakash Rai said a complaint was received via social media from Hariom. Upon investigation, it was found that on June 28, a campaign was underway against public drinking and drunk driving. When the police enquired about the documents, the person failed to provide them and began misbehaving. Police added that their bike had a modified horn. Therefore, the vehicle was seized under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and they were booked under Section 34 of the Police Act, later released as per procedure. tnn You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida
