Hibs boss David Gray ready to unleash record signing Thibauld Klidje vs Midtjylland but £1m rated star doesn't travel
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIBS boss David Gray has revealed record £1 million-plus capture Thibault Klidje is primed for a big debut in Herning. But Gray - full of pride ahead of his first Euro tie in the hot-seat - is anxious that the Togo international hitman is given time to meet growing expectations. It could be he's used from the bench against FC Midtjylland - with Martin Boyle or Kieron Bowie starting in a lone striker role. But, regardless, Gray is prepared to be patient with the 24-year-old as he plans for the Europa League second round qualifying first leg and, ultimately, the target of a history-making first group stage appearance for Hibs. He said: 'I'm very excited about Thibault. 'I think at the same time he's only been in the door five minutes, so it's something that I don't want to put too much expectation on early. 'He's played at a very good level, scored a lot of goals and affects games of football at a really high level. So I think he's a really good addition. 'But it doesn't happen overnight; adapting to new styles, to me, to my Scottish language rather than just the normal English that people would learn. 'He'll be ready when he's ready. 'He's available, he's had a pre-season. He's also had minutes in pre-season, so that's good, he's safe to do it. 'He's looking sharper every day in training, he's probably becoming more settled around the group. Everyone's excited.' Hibs mascots troll Rangers players in tunnel Gray's full of hope as Hibs return to Europe for the first time in two years. And not even being delayed at Edinburgh airport for several hours after a fault was discovered in their original chartered plane has impacted on their focus. The Hibs party had to wait for another plane to arrive before flying to Denmark and having a short evening work-out at the MCH Arena. Gray said: 'One thing I'm not going to do is worry about things we can't control. 'Our flight was delayed this morning, everybody knows that, it changed our schedule a little bit. 'But we had plans in place to react in case anything did come up. 'The players have all trained well, they're ready and I think tomorrow night takes care of itself. 'Europe is something that doesn't always happen in your career. 'It's one of the perks of playing for a big club like Hibs and the rewards for being successful, which we have been. 'We're ready now for this. 3 Martin Boyle in action against Rot-Weiss Essen Credit: Kenny Ramsay 'It's a real tough draw, I think in terms of how well Midtjylland have done in Europe. 'They're a very good side, they've got Champions League players experienced at the level. 'But we've also demonstrated that if we can play to the best of our ability we're a very good side - and that has to be the mindset of the players.' Gray added: 'Group stage football's never been done - that's the challenge to the players. 'Last season we spoke a lot about recreating history in a positive way. 'We've done a lot of that - and I think this is just the next stage. 'That is one of the genuine goals and ambitions of this group of players.' Hibs boot out seven-figure bids from English Championship clubs for key star with offers nowhere near club's valuation
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIBS have rejected seven-figure bids from English Championship clubs for defender Lewis Miller. SunSport understands the offers were at the £1 million mark - but Easter Road chiefs were quick to reject them because they were nowhere near their valuation of the Aussie star. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Miller has emerged as a key Hibs player Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 The Hibees have turfed out offers for Miller Credit: Kenny Ramsay Boss David Gray is not looking to sell the 24-year-old who has proved an excellent signing since arriving from Central Coast Mariners in 2022. However, he is realistic enough to know he could still lose the powerful full-back who has made 85 appearances if the hovering clubs match the price on Miller's head. Hibs last week broke their transfer record with a £1 million-plus swoop for Togo striker Thibault Klidje from Luzern - underlining the club's ambition to maintain their new status as Scotland's third force. There is no pressure on Gray to balance the books but it would prove hard for the board to reject a significantly increased bid for a player who is into the final year of his contract after a 12-month option was triggered. Miller has 14 caps for Australia and is on course to be included in Tony Popovic's squad for next year's World Cup finals in USA, Canada and Mexico. In the last month Hibs have also extended the contracts of key men Rocky Bushiri and Jordan Obita. Gray also continues to have scope to strengthen his squad. Hibs travel to Denmark next week to face FC Midtjylland in a Europa League second round qualifier. They have been busy in the transfer market, so far also bringing in Raphael Sallinger, Jamie McGrath and Josh Mulligan. Meanwhile, former Hibs midfielder Stevie Mallan is closing in on a return to Scottish football. David Gray opens up on THAT Cup Final winner for Hibs against Rangers and how he felt like a 'wild horse' as he celebrated The 29-year old hasn't played a competitive game for almost TWO YEARS after going through hell with a foot injury. Mallan, who was at Hibs between 2018 and 2021, is a free agent having left Salford City at the end of the 2023/24 season. He featured as a trialist for St Johnstone in their friendly against Dundee United on Tuesday night. Now, the Saints hope he'll sign on for Simo Valakari's promotion push this coming season. Scottish Premiership club to rename stand in ultimate tribute to club icon

Stanton, 80, starred for the Hibees between 1963 and 1976, playing for his boyhood club. He played 617 times and scored 78 times during his stellar spell and is widely regarded as one of the club's greatest ever players. Stanton helped Hibs to incredible wins in Europe against the likes of Napoli and Sporting Lisbon and won the League Cup in 1973. His playing career ended with a two-year spell with Celtic while he was also capped 16 times by Scotland. Stanton also managed Hibs between 1982 and 1984, having previously worked for a season under Sir Alex Ferguson at Aberdeen. The stand will be officially renamed when Hibs host German club Rot-Weiss Essen at Easter Road next Wednesday. His name will appear at the top of the East Stand. Hibs chairman Ian Gordon said the gesture was a way to honour Stanton's "amazing contribution" to the club. Gordon said: 'It's with great pride and pleasure that we are honouring Pat Stanton's amazing contribution to Hibernian FC and Scottish football during our anniversary season. Ian Murray on the day his Hibs team settled for defeat to Rangers 'The Pat Stanton Stand will serve as a lasting tribute to his achievements and legacy, inspiring future players and supporters for many years to come. 'On behalf of everyone associated with Hibs – the fans, the board, the staff, the players, the entire Hibernian Family – I would like to thank Pat for everything he's done for the club.' Major update on Martin Boyle's Hibs future as fan favourite attracts interest from several clubs
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIBS are closing on a contract extension for striker Martin Boyle. Sporting Director Malky Mackay has already held talks with the frontman over his future. And SunSport understands the Hibees hierarchy are hopeful Boyle will agree to the deal being put on the table. The experienced attacker is a huge fans' favourite from his two spells at the club and is just four goals away from a landmark 100 goals. His wife Rachael also captains the club's women's team. In a recent interview, Boyle said: 'It's really special. 'I think in terms of my time being here, the connection is brilliant. 'I kind of took it for granted when I was first here, but I think as new players are coming in and developing, as an older head, you let them know what it means to people. 'They're everything to the city, everything that is with Hibernian. 'The love, the passion they've got for the club, and – rightfully so at the start of the season – they let you know when you're not performing. David Gray opens up on THAT Cup Final winner for Hibs against Rangers and how he felt like a 'wild horse' as he celebrated 'I think you can see as a squad now how much we're giving back. "I've been here a long time, my family loves the club, my wife's the captain of Hibs Women, my daughters love the club. 'It just runs through my veins now, the passion I have for the place, and I can't thank people enough for the support that I've had over the years. 'I know there could have and should have been more appearances but for injury, but when I've been through the hard times, they've been there to claw me back out of it. 'I'm just really glad at the moment that I can give a lot back to the club, and it's definitely a club that I'll support for the rest of my life, and hopefully there are many more years to come.'
