Former Jets teammate sets the record straight on 'misunderstood' Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers

USA Todaya day ago

Aaron Rodgers has no shortage of critics — but if you asked his former Jets teammate Breece Hall, he's simply misunderstood.
On a special Fanatics Fest edition of Da Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson, Hall shared his honest feelings on Rodgers and his short-lived tenure with the Jets:
"Very misunderstood person," Hall said. "Great dude, comes off to people a certain way. But once you really get to know him, you realize how good of a person he is. Last year, when you're losing games, the blame gets put on the faces of the team, and it just so happened to be guys like me, Sauce [Gardner], Garrett [Wilson], Aaron [Rodgers], Quinnen [Williams], and Quincy [Williams].
"I feel like when you're losing, somebody has to get let go — but what people don't realize is when stuff is crazy organizationally, then it's hard for players to have stability and win games. … But I love Aaron. Me and him still have a great relationship to this day. That's my guy.'
Many argued Rodgers was heavily at fault for the 2024 Jets' disaster — but Hall clearly believes the blame goes far deeper than any one player.
In his short time with the Steelers, Rodgers' display of generosity in mentoring rookie Will Howard — and the respect he's earned from teammates and coaches in Pittsburgh — has proved Hall's point that the four-time MVP isn't as complicated or egocentric as critics make him out to be.

Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers

Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been one of the most trusted targets for quarterback Jordan Love since he took over as the team's franchise quarterback in 2023. Throughout his career, Doubs has posted 1700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Moreover, he recorded at least 64 targets in each of the past three seasons, including 70 in 2024. Advertisement Still, Doubs has yet to develop into a clear No. 1 option in the receiving corps, something many Packers fans believe the team needs heading into 2025. With Doubs entering the final year of his rookie contract, he should feel a strong sense of urgency to deliver results and prove he deserves a second deal with Green Bay. It is anyone's guess whether Doubs will still be with the Packers next year. However, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox sees the wide receiver as a potential trade target this season. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract and is likely to face a lot of competition during training camp," Knox wrote. Advertisement "Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are back, and the Packers used first- and third-round picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, respectively, in April," he added. "If Green Bay decides to move one of its young pass-catchers, Doubs—who topped 600 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons—would be a logical candidate." Knox went on to mention the Pittsburgh Steelers as a landing spot for Doubs, which makes sense given Aaron Rodgers' familiarity with the former Nevada receiver. "The Steelers would be an obvious landing spot for the Nevada product if he is on the move. They need receiver depth, and Rodgers has experience playing with him," Know wrote. "Doubs' rookie season coincided with the veteran's last campaign as a Packer." Doubs and Rodgers played together in 2022, which was Doubs' rookie season. That year, the young receiver logged 42 catches for 425 yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers traded for DK Metcalf this offseason but also dealt George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, so they could be in the market for an affordable option to complement Metcalf in the passing game. Advertisement The most likely scenario is Doubs playing out the final year of his rookie deal in Green Bay. While it could be tough for the Packers to retain him next offseason—especially with six starters potentially hitting the open market—keeping Doubs on the roster for 2024 should be in the team's best interest. When you are aiming to take that extra step toward a championship, you do not trade away a top target. Steelers LS calls Mike Tomlin 'literally ruthless' despite being a player's coach

Many love to criticize Steelers HC Mike Tomlin for being a player's coach — but LS Christian Kuntz believes everyone has the wrong idea. On Thursday's Kaboly + Mack podcast, Kuntz argued that Tomlin is just as 'ruthless' as he is motivational: 'Everything that's said in the public, and the way he acts, is truly the way he acts in the locker room in front of us,' Kuntz said. 'Motivating, you know, he's gonna get it out of you. People call him a player's coach, and yeah, obviously he's a player's coach, 'cause you see how many guys want to come play with him. A player's coach, yes, but he's gonna get on your a--. He is gonna let you know about every single finer detail; he is going to call you out. If you're not doing your job, you're being held accountable.' Recently, Steelers legend James Harrison also weighed in on Tomlin's player's coach mentality — considering it both his best and worst quality. How Tomlin's ruthlessness will mesh with the Aaron Rodgers-led offense remains a mystery — but the Steelers are hopeful this union will finally end their postseason misfortune. Steelers coach admits Aaron Rodgers is tough on receivers — but welcomes the challenge

Aaron Rodgers is known for demanding perfection of wide receivers, but Steelers WR coach Zach Azzanni isn't backing down from it — he welcomes the challenge. Speaking to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, Azzanni explained why he doesn't just tolerate Rodgers intensity with the receivers — he embraces it: "I love that challenge," Azzanni said. "I like that. I'd rather have someone that's dialed into the detail in the perimeter, and those guys ultimately have to be on the same page. I understand that he's hard on receivers, and I like that because I'm hard on receivers." Arguably, the most infamous example of his demanding nature was evident in his public criticism of then-Jets WR Mike Williams for running the wrong route — which led the wide receiver taking subtle jabs at the quarterback on social media. Former Super Bowl champion DE Chris Long warned that DK Metcalf could find himself in Rodgers' crosshairs if he can't meet his expectations — but clearly, Azzanni is excited for the opportunity for his receivers to be held to a higher standard.
