Polavaram completion by 2027 impossible: Ex-MP
Rajamahendravaram: Former MP GV Harsha Kumar has stated that completing the Polavaram Project by 2027, as claimed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is not feasible. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Harsha Kumar blamed the past mistakes of the TDP government that are causing the current delays in the project's construction. He pointed out that errors in the construction of the diaphragm wall and cofferdams have made the project highly complex. He claimed that nearly 1.60 lakh cusecs of seepage is expected at the project site, and questioned how construction can proceed without effectively addressing this issue. Citing expert committee recommendations, he said the foundation for the diaphragm wall must be laid up to 2 metres deep into the rock bed. However, the Polavaram project contractor is allegedly denying the necessity of this, which he termed as unacceptable. 'If the diaphragm wall and cofferdams are not structurally strong, how can the project withstand pressure?' he asked. Harsha Kumar also welcomed the Central Government's decision to reject the Banakacharla project, saying it would have placed an unnecessary financial burden on the state. He further remarked that MLAs visiting people under the 'Suparipalanalo Toli Adugu' initiative will certainly face tough questions from the public.

HC directs former MP to deposit Rs 5 lakh for PIL on pastor death
Vijayawada: The high court on Wednesday directed former MP G V Harsha Kumar to deposit Rs 5 lakh with the registry to prove his bona fides in filing the PIL petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the death of pastor Praveen Pagadala. The HC bench headed by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravi observed that Praveen was seen purchasing liquor in the CCTV footage and later driving his bike, which the bench said was a dangerous combination. The bench also asked whether any material was available suggesting it as murder. Harsha Kumar filed the PIL seeking a judicial inquiry with a sitting judge of the high court and a re-postmortem with forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Arguing on his behalf, advocate Balaiah said there were many doubts over the death of Praveen and the investigation being done by the police. The bench asked why another PIL was filed when two similar petitions were already pending. The bench also asked why the petitioner filed a PIL when he was not related to the deceased. Directing the registry to tag the petition with those filed earlier, the high court clarified that the hearing would be taken up only after depositing the money with the registry.

Govt targeting Dalits, Kapus: alleges ex-MP
Rajamahendravaram: Former MP GV Harsha Kumar has come down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of targeting various social groups, beginning with the Dalits and now turning his focus towards the Kapu community. Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Harsha Kumar condemned the state government's decision to reopen the Ratnachal Express train burning case, which was part of the Kapu reservation agitation in Tuni. He termed the move outrageous and politically motivated. He further criticised the YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy for cancelling 26 welfare schemes for Dalits and expressed disappointment that the current coalition government has not reinstated even one of those schemes in the past year. Harsha Kumar also accused the present government of failing to fulfil its promise of setting up a commission to investigate false cases filed against Dalits. He questioned the rationale behind the government's persistence in pursuing cases that had already been dismissed by the judiciary, particularly the Tuni train incident. Alleging a political vendetta, Harsha Kumar demanded to know why there was such a determination to revive these cases. He expressed confusion over the silence of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on the issue and questioned his stance on the cases filed against Kapus. Harsha Kumar stated that the entire Kapu community stood behind Pawan Kalyan, but criticised him for not delivering anything substantial for the community since assuming power. Harsha Kumar claimed that while real ganja smugglers are being let off the hook, common citizens and Dalits are being falsely implicated and subjected to injustice through fabricated cases. He alleged that ganja is readily available in prisons across the state. He called for an urgent investigation into the matter.
